The director is rather skilled and avant garde with utilizing various camera speeds and angles to manipulate the viewers emotions, drawing out a sense of urgency, suspense, and excitement. We see this employed in the market scene in episode 1, with all the moving parts, and quick shots to indicate chaos is forthcoming.
When Baili Hongyi was introduced, I clearly remember that the camera angle was at 45 degree angle from the ground up, capturing his footsteps, a mysterious entrance and to indicate someone important in the drama. The view is like a panel from a manwah/manga.
There are so many great shots, including magnificent moving aerial views of the city. Overall, a great director in my book. He recently directed Jun Jiu Ling, and didn’t use the same effects. The director knows what he’s doing. Luoyang is a mystery/suspense drama and we the viewers are tossed in the midst of a race against time investigation. Hence, the fast pace camera effect.
I have to say though that some may find the quick moving angles dizzying if watched on a big screen because the eyes can only capture so much at once, quickly snapping left and right, up and down, and still having to read the subtitle. Sizing down the screen may help combat the dizziness.
Only watched 2 episodes so far, and looking forward to more this week.
I’m so excited for this! The question is: watch now or binge later! Or both! ❤️
Definitely watch now!!! The experience of the suspense and participating in the group/forum discussion as the episodes air is amazing! Especially if and when more participants share their point of views.
We don’t really know yet. Only up to 2 episodes out, unless you’re VIP status. Everyone seems to have an agenda so far. We do know that the mortician is looking for the person responsible for killing someone important to him.
2 ep. in and I Love It. This is a period drama with substance y'all. From the 1st scene, things kick-start with…
The empress is based on a real historical figure, and you’re right that it was no easy feat getting to her position. She had an empress and consort executed to gain final total power, reigning as the only female sovereign in Chinese history, I believe.
I agree that all three leads are doing a great job holding their own. I haven’t watched Song Qian’s work, but she portrays the strong FL nicely.
Is this easy to follow from the start? I dropped Nirvana in fire due to it being way too complicated at the beginning.
It’s a mystery and presented in such manner, so I’d have to say it’s not that easy to follow at first, especially if you have to read the subtitle at the same time. I’ve only seen 2 episodes so far. The translation is pretty good though and iQIYI did a great job in translating people/characters/roles/titles/Locations/venues/scripts. I would recommend the series for the superior cinematography and directing, grand production, and story telling alone. Plus… Wang yibo to seal the deal.
I’m very impressed so far with Luoyang up to episode 2. Grand production and great cinematography. The quality is high and sharp. The first fighting scene is packed with actions as we’re introduced to the main characters. The story telling style is very Dectective Dee, thus so far everything is a grand mystery to the viewers as we try to piece clues together.
Having Wang Yibo as one of the trio leads also doesn’t hurt.
Very excited to have a new great series to look forward to for the next couple of months after 6 months of flat series.
After reading the response and explanation from Ji-N, the admin, posted by HappyBirdEgg, I feel our time here in this TLB's comment section is coming to an end as it's not sustainable.
I will refrain from posting too much to this community (TLB) going forward. Hopefully, when You are My Glory and Our Times (aka Set Sail) air, we meet again under those new comment sections. Those two dramas are set to broadcast soon. I can only hope that they are great shows so that we have enough substance to discuss and recreate the same energy.
The saddest thing to happen would be once we leave here, our comments/virtual space are wiped out. So, my only agenda now is for us to fight for TLB to stay #1 for comments, and that if the admins were to delete any comments, the count stays as #1 - because TLB deserves it. For us diehard fans who are active here, make an effort to raise a support ticket when you revisit TLB page and see deleted comments that resulted in comment count decrease.
I received an email from Amazon that "Authentic Chang'An Cookbook" and "How to Prepare Herbal Soup Cookbook" have been sent. It's confirmed that Ah Sun received the order already!!
I guess his next trip is to the local asian supermarket for ingredients.
Now, just need to see him in an apron and messy man-bun.🤣
One thing, these people are dying of neck scratches when the MCs have been cut and stabbed multiple times but…
Ohh, love the "neck scratches" term. That's a new one here, but I LOVE IT! We got some cool ones, too. Such as GS-PTSD for GeSun-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder who those who finished TLB but can't move on, and Ice Cube as a nick name for Hao Du. There are a few more but I don't remember at the moment. Maybe some posters here can add in what they remember.
Warning: there will be a few more neck scatches before the show ends....all deadly, except one!

It's been great hanging out with you all!!
That man does every well, including cooking for the first time. Sorry, I refuse to see it any other way for our warrior. =)
P.S. (He may have checked YouTube on "how to clean and cut up a whole chicken.")
