3) ** i don’t think i’m really spoiling anything but in case i am here’s a qi ye spoiler warning ** beiyuan fell in love with wu xi too it’s just it took him so long to realize/acknowledge because of how deep his feelings were for helian yi in his previous lifetimes. like he’s genuine, but not explicit. it’s confusing mostly because their relationship is like very secondary, but it’s definitely there. helian yi’s presence will be painful because it’s hard to hate hate him, but wu xi is beiyuan’s true soulmate. the thing is, the story is about how beiyuan changes his fate and that’s what he does by releasing his heart from the grip helian yi had on it for six lifetimes and opening it to wu xi. so, i don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

hello patient besties! what are y’all looking forward to most and least in winner is king?

i’d say i’m most looking forward to the steampunk elements especially ziliujin and the armours and the ships. i find their descriptions so interesting in the book and although i know it’s really hard to pull off that level of steampunk, i have faith in the production team.


i’m least looking forward to li feng’s characterisation i think because i find him to be a fascinating character and i hope they don’t change his combination of cowardice, desire for control, and helplessness. also, i’m a little worried about gu yun, but because of directing not acting. but like those aren’t really big things. and it hasn’t come out yet i can’t judge ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ there’s not much i’m not looking forward to other than censorship lol i just want it to be released 😭

so, i would die for wu xi. however, he’s a little intent on kidnapping beiyuan (for his own good of course). like that exchange in word of honor where beiyuan says, “yeah, she’s like you nanjiang people who’re good at carrying off children from decent families by fraud”; that’s def canon. also, he has some moments where his advances are quite dubious, but he’s overall a good boy who i am shamefully apologistic for. i get that for many people things i consider dubcon, noncon, or problematic are tame, but i just want to issue warnings bc i know it can be difficult not knowing that a trigger is going to be present and then it hits you and it’s not a fun feeling. but yeah that’s mostly it. beiyuan and wu xi are really a beautiful couple though.

hey! yeah, a couple things:
1) i may have exaggerated by saying that svsss has a lot of dubcon, but i think i was referring a bit more ro bingge's advances that were met with explicit refusal from cucumber and some other stuff but yeah there are only one and a half dubcon scenes
2) i love qi ye’s honest and devoted little deuteragonist (like he’s one of my favorites), but his methods of showing his love are not the greatest (i'll put them in a spoilered comment after)
3)so, qi ye was written first and the events in qi ye come before those of tyk. if you liked word of honor, qi ye might be more interesting in the sense that it’s not at all like the tyk novel and is more related to beiyuan, wu xi, zishu, jiuxiao, and the prince/emperor’s deal before zhou zishu left the capital to wander faraway. however, the first half of the book is a little slow and might be tough to get through. this being said, it picks up and there’s a lot of emotional complexity and compelling themes and it will leave you feeling simultaneously empty and full because of the brutality and truthfulness in the emotions and resolutions. tl;dr it’s a bit tough to chew at first, but it’s worth a try because it’s a very good story overall
4) i really enjoy having conversations with people who might have thoughts different from mine so i appreciate your comments :)

compared to mxtx’s other novels, svsss is most definitely lighthearted. however, it has its fair share of angst, especially stuff concerning luo binghe lol. there’s a lot of noncon/dubcon (not nearly as much as 2ha) too. but it's a fun read otherwise...?

100% pls i’m reading like six books right now and it is NOT fruitful but i do not regret.

i feel that exactly about overly complicated schemes especially in wuxia/xianxia like am i dumb or just annoyed? but i do not think you are dumb as you think so deeply and thoughtfully about these things :)

TGCF - hualian invented love. it’s true. i haven’t finished it yet because i want to draw it out for as long as possible (im coming up on a year now!) the characters, plot, writing, and suffering are all just special i don’t have enough adjectives to describe it.
MDZS - i love wangxian, but they’re not the reason this is high up. the mdzs story is just so well-crafted, paced, and executed not to mention really interesting and good. also it was my first wuxia and danmei novel so it’s special
2HA - there are a lot of heavy things that i thought i wouldnt enjoy, but it’s really beautiful and heart-wrenching and funny and it really and wholly won me over
TYK - so...i really loved tian ya ke. i know that the story was a little slow at times and confusing, but i really liked the characters. i’m a sucker for found family so i thought that was lovely. also i’m obsessed with wenzhou like it’s so slow burn and subtle but they’re just soulmates
SPL - was debating putting spl before tyk but for now i'll make them a tie. i’m a sucker for steampunk so i’m obsessed with that aspect of the book, however, court politics are not my favorite and this novel is FULL of them. i enjoy reading gu yun’s bits a lot more than the imperial stuff. i like how it’s plot heavy though, and i’m still interested. changgu is beautiful there’s no argument.
SVSSS - okay svsss was hilarious and had a pretty interesting plot concept, but i just don’t understand bingqiu. like i love bingge and our scum villain individually but i’m honestly not the biggest fan of them together. but i liked it overall i think and had some good laughs
LS - ik this isn’t on the list, but i’m putting it anyway. i’m not normally a fan of court politics as i’ve stated, but qi ye is good to read if you want more context on beiyuan (lord seventh), wu xi (da wu), jiuxiao (zishu’s shidi) and helian yi (prince qi/jin wang in shl/woh) from word of honor. it’s kind of slow for a while, but picks up eventually. also kind of problematic...but i’m trying not to think too much about it.

QQ (i have not yet started qian qiu, but plan to once i finish the thousand other books i’m reading teehee)

i know a lot of people are mad about the cheap-looking costumes, so i want to know if there’s any news on the budget of the show. i agree that they’re not what i expected (i think i could’ve done a better amateur san lang cosplay ngl) and i’m a little sad about ruoye, but i’m trying to not hold this drama to the same standards in terms of costumes as the untamed because the untamed fell a bit short in certain other departments that eternal faith might do well in. also, the expectations are really high and there are a lot more eyes on this than the untamed during filming. it’s really hard to make assumptions and definitive opinions pre-production, so i’m trying not to and am choosing to trust the filmmakers for now. this is the first real set of pictures that have been released and the fact that there’s already so much controversy is a bit disheartening albeit expected. but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. it’s nice to see such passionate and dedicated tgcf fans though who care so much about a good adaptation of the beautiful novel ♡
