My opinion on this is that there will always be gossip articles, that's inevitable.
The debate honestly isn't about the article, it's about account(s) masquerading as real fans when they're not and misleading fans with fake news and hateful ppinions (usually AI generated) and attempting to paint hmh in a bad light based on nothing.
Everyone's entitled to your own opinions yes, but repeated purposeful misinformation is not an opinion, it's a smear campaign.
At the end of the day, if the content looks weird, cross check with another source or even ask someone who can translate it to verify. I saw posts on X with real fansite reels from weibo but totally made up 'translated' caption of what hmh was saying in that video. It worries me that people might think the entire thing is real, especially since the account mixes a lot of real information with partial fake ones.
This is not uncommon on chinese social media, we're just more or less starting to get exposed to these out here as hmh becomes more popular.
HMH is doing very very well now! I mean, look at all those brand endorsements! It's getting hard to keep up even with endorsements now 😆
But anyway, I just want to point out that smear campaigns we commonly see on on the chinese social media can extend to the international sphere too! Haters will always be here, but smear campaigns are on another level, they are paid and coordinated targeted efforts to paint him in a bad light.
What can we do as fans? - always, always check sources! It takes maybe 10s to generate any media nowadays, it's so low-effort to start a website/youtube channel, start posting and call it "official news" whether or not the content actually is official - keep the rest of the fanbase informed! Share what you saw so that more kiwis know about it and we can all take a collective stance towards it, good or bad. We're here to support him together 💚
As long as hmh continues to do well, I think all the hate/smear will continue or even become more often. We'll just have to do what we can, as much as we individually can, as kiwis for this awesome human who continues to do his best for all his roles and other work.
I saw it all over fb too. I wonder who started it. Did the industry itself made it? Or a Kiwi? Or an anti-fan?
