My theory: Hwal and Sung Un are the original Bulgasals (we know they came in pair), neither of them have a soul, neither of them have never been human. Until Eul Tae show up, Hwal steal Eul Tae soul (we saw this in ep 12) making him an half Bulgasal as he said (I think this is why he have an hole in his chest). As neither Hwal and Sung Un had a soul when they steal his they became mortal, this is why Sung Un dies when he stab her whit his sword and I bet this is why Hwal day in Eul Tae memory, he was bleeding agaist the tree. I think Bulgasals where never bloodsucking monsters to begin with because as immortal they didn't need blood to survive but as they became one and after the soul is stolen they are human without a soul so they need blood to survive. Does this make sense?
I'm a little sad because the rating dropped but I'm very concerned about all the negative comments of all that disliked the romance portrayed on the drama. I bet a lot of viewers got here just because lots of people, myself included, describes this drama as the best romance sageuk ever made, but were disappointed because the romance is far from the way it's portrayed in todays contemporary dramas or the historical fusion drama that air in prime time tv. This is a Sageuk, with every traits every Sageuk is rapresented, the romance is literally as true as it was at the time these characters lived plus this is a true story, with true character, don't let me start that this is adapted from a novel that the writer spent 10 years making between researching, studying and reading about.
While Shin Hye Sun is my favorite actress to suit her to the character they have to age the male character. In the webtoon the two leads have a 10 years gap, so or they will pick a younger actress if she decline the offer or an older male lead. Since I love SHS I hope for the latter but I'm sad because the actors I love for the part are in their 30.
I cried start to finish. I did know about the real characters, I did know about the end since the beginning but I still can't believe how sad this last episode was. How can I let go such beloved characters? My heart hurts 😭
