I hope this series doesn't shy away from or try to blunt the effects of capitalism and the far West's involvement…
I totally agree with you. This time frame was towards the end of the Vietnam war. However, it was still going on pretty heavily. And as you pointed out it was a VERY turbulent time in Southeast Asia. This is FAR from your "typical" Asian BL trope that we often get. And i actually like that A LOT. Being out and gay myself for the past 30+yrs now. This was a VERY difficult time for the LGBTQ+ community. It may have been accepted in "hippie circles" but outside of that forget about it. Especially, in Asian countries at that time where it was extremely taboo. Besides most of those accepting "hippie circles" people were so spaced out on drugs it really didn't get noticed. People were kissing any and everything. Trust me i'm old enough too remember what went on during that time period.
Christopher Nishizawa is so sexy i love his deep voice. I wish i could find a Japanese man like him. Also, the film was excellent. Great depiction of Japanese culture and there attitudes towards "gaijins". Also, a very touching LGBTQ film. The acting was pretty solid all the way around. I give it 8 out of 10 stars.
Just finished this VERY well done drama. And i must say the acting was absolutely incredible. And Bando Ryota perfectly nailed his role as an autistic individual. The little boy Lion was super adorable and a great little actor himself. I love how this centered on family overcoming obstacles in their lives. And coming together as one in the end. I sure hope a sequel is in the cards because with the abusive husband now out of jail. That could set up a great revenge story moving forward. And also explore how each character is doing. Now that they have branched out individually pursuing their own personal goals.
are u stupid? what are u even doing watching bls if this is what u think... also what's a real man anyway
That's up to interpretation and what your attracted to now isn't it...? However, for myself and being out for the past 35+yrs. Where i've seen probably more changes in the LGBTQ+ community then you've been alive. I can tell you times have changed. Back in the 80 and 90's it was muscle men wearing tight jeans. It then got more effeminate in the 2000's. So do NOT tell me their isn't a "scene" or preference for; Bears, Gym bunnies, Drag Queens, Trans men & women, etc...I clearly stated what my preference is. Whether you like hearing it or not is your problem not mine.
Sissy boys? LMAO. Welcome to Japan where their male standard is 180 degree from yours. Just because they dont…
Then Japanese women and their BL fantasies can have them. I know what i'm attracted to and not ashamed to admit it. Furthermore, i've been to Japan and for you to tell me flat out that their isn't a "Bear or Leather scene" is ridiculous. They have PLENTY of bars in Shinjuku ward that cater to those types of men. I know i've been in them...(g)
neither of them are "sissies"... it's good that it does not feature stereotypes which are annoying as hell...…
Also you can't sit there for one minute and tell me ALL gay men in Japan and Korea look like "boy bands". I've been to Japan and their are muscle and bear bars that cater to that crowd of men. So whose being "stereotypical" now...? (g)

I strongly suggest you watch Last Twlight. Which is a Thai BL that came out last year i believe. I'm in the middle of it now. And it's probably one of THE BEST directed BL's i've seen in a long while. The director nailed it, the music, the chemistry between the main leads everything is done wonderfully. It's a truly touching story about two boys falling in love and one who just happens to be blind. I can't recommend it enough. It has brought tears to my eyes it's that good.

The blond is VERY effeminate in the way he looks and dresses. I'm sorry if that doesn't align with your type. Everyone has a type they are attracted to. I just expressed my dislike for effeminate men. Probably shouldn't have used the word sissy and i apologize for that. I have been out for over 35+yrs. I've seen more changes in the LGBTQ+ community then you probably have been alive. Sorry if i'm not "hip" with my phraseology...(g)
Don't know haven't seen him yet. Since ep 5 hasn't come out yet. And why are you laughing your ass off pretell...? That's must my personal preference when i watch BL's. I prefer masculine guys i don't see the humor in that my friend. Unless your agreeing with my comment.
I'm sorry i've watched A LOT of BL dramas. But i'm just NOT feeling this one for some reason. I'm gay myself and i find the dialogue to be unrealistic and rather boring. Not to mention i much prefer "masculine" acting BL actors. And these two certainly aren't that. Don't get me wrong i LOVE Japanese BL's but they haven't put one out yet that i can seriously get into. However, Thai BL's seem to have nailed this down perfectly. Two i can think of that had me in tears were; "I Told Sunset About You" and "A Tale of Thousand Stars". The connections between these actors and their parts was pitch perfect in terms of their chemistry together. In other words, you really felt like they were real individuals in love. And they both had FAR longer episodes. With this drama factoring in the beginning theme song. Your lucky if your getting 15min of what should be a 30-45min per episode drama. I know Japan can do better than this. And i'm still waiting for them to come out with something new that will captivate me like those two Thai BL dramas did. I don't want to see sissy boys. I want to see "REAL MEN" falling in love. Or who are already in a relationship and trying to keep it together. I'm already on the most recent episode and i'll finish it to the end. But i can't give this anymore than a 3 star rating out of 5 and that's being generous...(g)
I watch A LOT and i mean A LOT of J-drama's. And being gay myself i always like the BL ones of course. However, i have to say that the reason this particular drama didn't do very well. Is because the individual who subbed the dialogue did a TERRIBLE job. There are parts that don't even make sense when they are speaking to each other. And i believe this is why it got such a low rating. This could have been a lot better with the proper eng subs done right.
