actually you don't have to be familiar with the genre to be able to understand it but it does require your full attention while watching it. i would also recommend to give it at least until ep 7 to decide whether or not you want to continue because i promise you, it only gets better and better the longer you keep on watching.... this is by far the best chinese fantasy drama of all time for me 🥰🥰
