Yes. In original timeline SoonAe wasn't attacked n 1987 because she wasn't known as the book's author. Mistook stole and took credit for Soon Ae's book and she always knew the killer to not wander around without a care.

They no longer have to address that because the time line has changed. No reason for SoonAe to go to the river bank. Uncle no longer needs daily care from his brother. If anything there could be new challenges. The writer could keep it open ended for a possible sequel, all the while giving everyone a happy ending.

Their present time is 2021. It's possible ML met FL when investigating her mother's death. Between 2021 and his death in 2022, they would have gotten closer. Just like HaeJoon, his son was probably born out of wedlock after his death.

ML might have met FL while investigating the murder of her mom and got close and had a son (ML probably died without knowing this) . Unfortunately MLs dad found out and killed him. Son grew up and built a time machine to save his father.

With episode 15 and the preview of episode 16, we can guess,

Rewatching from beginning before finale, I realized that Soon Ae's brother is the bully kid from the king of pigs.

At this point we're all tired of guessing the killer even with the big reveal and are hoping they take remaining two episodes to tie up all the loose ends.
Edit: tired might be a poor choice of word, I said it in jest.

Y theory is that the most traumatic experience happened to Baek brothers. Hee Seop became pitiful, Yu Seop became resentful. He got mad at his girlfriend for dragging him into protests and killed her, starting his murder spree. It would have stopped but HaeJoon save him from police, resulting in Yu Seop starting to kill once he got discharged from the hospital.

That reveal in preview could be a scenario in the mind of soon ae/ ml/cop, now that they have a suspect, just like the scene where ml imagined mom leaving him the day he was born.

All ML realized was he was an activist. He was in the village the day of murders. From what we know so far Dad wasn't in Korea at the time of killings and even the time line of murders got pushed forward. This has to be explained to justify if dad is the one.
