the empress dowager as a mastermind is too weak for me . i would drop this thing if she the main villain. reason being is there already exist court of judicial review by that time of that incident, since it was made by founding emperor. if just a silly letter from dowager able to kill more than 80k people ,then did it not pass the court at all? read 1 letter and decide to kill? even the useless son of minister was sent to court for hearing 1st before deciding his punishment. somehow for a founding family the emperor just decide to trust a letter and kill? at the very least, it should be a trick of several people if the king is not also one of them.

from my understanding that sister by herself(yuying) chooses to marry to get out(not sure out of youzho or just out of wangdu). and yuru just help paid her dowry and give her some more money. and then the mother commented that that girl is quite a schemer too( i think it implied that she already planned her way out of the family, just like how yuru planned to get married into ye family before juisi got her). that said, yuzhao and yumao still stay with them
base from my understanding. both ML and FL deduce that the cannot survive like this. this conjecture happen bcs of several reasons.
1st of all they still unable to get permit to do business in yuozhou. this happen bcs more and more business rich(i.e those with money) are running away from conflict area to yuozho. this also increase the current population there while food production is same/low. since merchant got money they won't have problem to buy food. food demand increase = price food will increase.
2nd, there not just people with money that run to youzho. there also refugee and people with less money. however if price keep rising those with less money will struggle. desperate time people do desperate thing. they remember how those refugee chase the lead when they got just a little food and even want to turn them in for money. being so rich with no backup in new place just easily make them easy target.
3rd. it not just normal citizen, the army also need funds/food. even if they(the higher up) are good people if they unable to raise/keep army then youzho is just easy target to get invade and not gonna be a save place anymore. also while the higher up is good now, there no guarantee that they wont take extreme measure just for the sake of the land, i.e sacrifice the rich merchant that come and contribute nothing but eat away their food. desperate time desperate measure lol.
so all in all ML and FL decide it better to give away all in return for favor , ML got a gov job and FL got permit to open business.
as for their house, like FL said, if they don't give the house and everything in it then there will always be suspicious that they did not give away all but hide some of it in their house.
