No u don't NEED to read the book since it goes along with it but reading the book helps u with all those "apparent plot holes" you keep talking about. Btw all of that doesn't happen in a day. I'd suggest not applying too much of logic to everything too cuz it will strip ANY show of it's excitement. The organization hasn't fallen to pieces at all tbh. Mind u 2nd family is nowhere powerful as 1st and Kinn's dad is still the leader and Killing Kinn now would cause a huge mess which would result in the complete extermination of the 2nd family.
