I think thats the more reason why people root for HJP more. It’s 2020 and most young adult got mature earlier and realize the harsh reality in this world, especially in the business working part. It’s irony and frustating how the writer use ‘start-up’ as theme but executing & portraying the drama in a dreamy lovey-dovey romantically way. Thats what we got ; an unhealthy relationship of the main lead, seems like couple who gets rewarded everything by luck. They are the protagonize but the writer make it hard to root for them. Even in some movies where the bad guy is the main lead, we still root for them (like money heist)
People root for HJP more because his character is the only one portraying how it exactly works in reality, but again there are immature people who think that he is too harsh and rude. And worse, the writer is on these immature people side by making HJP character sacrifice much yet got nothing in the end. It’s just frustating to watch this drama.

I am very agree That JP doesnt care about the letters at all because its in the past. Which makes it weird because in the last eps 16 He suddenly bring out the letters again on a conv w DM because it’s DM who appreciates the letters so it will make sense if its DM who said about the letters.

Yes it’s Start-Up. Not many DS fans said/debate from the business part side on why DS is the better lead when this show is about your journey from zero to success. There are some scenes, but it’s not that impactful to convince and give message to viewers.
Ofc, most can relate to DS because he is just like in general, having hardship with career and life in his late 20s. But the character didnt show much progression for start up itself. He is genius I get it, but the goals mostly happened because of luck, some beautiful phrase and people who interested in your skill. (He even rejected it first because of DM, because he wants ‘a girl’ to be his dream) and again in the last episode he wants to be DM’s pride. He also has family who supports him, loyal friends (work without being paid for years), cousin who helps him all the time yet he always said he got nothing because all he cared is how JP success & connected to DM. The writer doesnt even bother to show DS realizing and grateful for everything in his life. He is taking everything for granted. People need some quotes to motivate themself, but ‘sailing without the map’ is just not. ‘Following your dream’ is better. Til the end, I still question what DS dream? To be success? To be with DM? Or doing no-profit-charity business? Changing misunderstanding to reality? It still starts and end with DM as his goals.
This drama fails to show how much DS career fail, struggle and rise again which can help to show DS strong side. The disband of SST even still give DS & his friend a chance to go for success, instead it’s DM & Saha who lost the most. I hope they show DM’s struggle to start the Cheong Myeong Company again by herself rather than showing it after 3 years. It would make people root for DS & DM more.
But again the title doesnt do justice about the story. 75% is love part.

I really like your honest response without being too biased and more about the meaning behind each scene. Actually I'm writing those 3 questions to point out to ahjussi above me that the letters are indeed important for JP DM & DS because it is part of their life. I'm not writing it to debate the reasons behind it LOL but here is my feedback;
1. I truly understand that DS wants to be the one that DM need and he will fight for it. I hope the writer use another way except that phrase because that phrase is shared between DM & JP. In the beginning eps, DS didn't understand about the phrase while JP understand what DM meant and suddenly at the last eps it is reversed. I acknowledge that DS said it for DM because that's what DM want to hear. But JP gets so angry & tense over those phrase make it weirder because he understood the phrase in the first place.
2. Yes to your opinion. DS want to keep the letters because he thought that JP & DM were together, but before this scene JP & DS already agreed to switch the plant & letter. DS denied they never talked about this after totally make DS looked selfish to keep things that didn't belong to him since the first place.
3. "It wasn't to bring up the letters per se, it was just to show that DS still gave the letters too much importance even after 3 years" so yes, even DS the person who never wrote the letters give it much importance because he can start the relationship w DM in the first place because of the letters.
I don't really care how the phrase meaning to DS & DM though. But I know this phrase would be more accepted and understood by all the viewers if the writer make JP & DM talked about the letters. The writer intentionally threw this scene off the camera when she clearly know & realise it is one of the most important scene in this drama. Everyone is waiting for this scene since the early eps (well, everyone except you-know-who) but the writer didn't give it to us. in that case, Ofc viewers should make their assumption themselves with so called theories.
It would make much more sense for the 3 years time skip if the writer make DM reject JP because she doesn't share the same belief with him then close their letter & relationship, then JP can move on with his life. Totally agree w you. What makes me curious are that no interview of NJH & Suzy about their char. They are the main lead so they must understand the char better than everyone else. Instead all we got are from KSH pov. If you watch carefully JP & DM only talk about business since the early episodes, never personal life. Even after the truth come out, they still dont talk about their background life. it is that backsound score/music that makes it more romantic, even DS & DM scene doesnt have this score/music & DM eyes to JP.
I dont know why the director make it this way, but it totally gives false hope to the viewers.
