I dont think they really mean his Hyung appeared to him but that in his mind he can see his Hyung telling him dont blame yourself, forgive yourself and asking him to live a full life. If his hyung really appeared , he will be yelling out.

But because he is a good boy he blames himself. He did not answer the phone from Doha's father which could stop the suicide. His Hyung died helping him. He was not hands on on Doha's father's investment. He could see the despair in everyone and he thinks he is to blame even though it was not his fault. It does not matter that they blame him but he blames himself.

I think he is trying to make it fun and funny. Like in 2D1N, they either choose to make it funny or be real.

Well I think the Nielsen and netflix ratings, # of commentary, theories, analysis in Reddit, Twitter, and MDL speak for itself. I dont think it is just for KSH or SMA. Many popular actors have also their share of flops. I am glad though that KSH chose this project which improve his marketability.

Did you watch StartUp a light romantic comedy? Kim Seon ho was nominated best supporting actor in the prestigious Baeksang Awards amidst actors in heavy dramas and the only one in Start-Up. So far, there was no baeksang worthy scene that requires heavy acting from Kim Seon Ho or Shin Min Ah. I wish there would be in the next 4 episodes. With the right direction I know KSH can do it.

Imagine KSH was nominated for best supporting actor (Baeksang Awards) for StartUp which is a rom-com. I hope he will have Baeksang worthy scenes to showcase his talent in the next 6 episodes that will get him a Best Actor nomination. I know it is hard for romcoms to get nominated.

I dont think it is all cliche. Give me a drama about a genius engineer who abandoned his probably high paying job and refuse to use his skills and intelligence and opt to spend his time in his rural hometown in the sea doing menial jobs and helping out his neighbors. Why is he not cashing on his god given intelligence/ skills. I wish they would showcase his ingenuity like maybe saving a bridge etc. As is, he cannot develop a relationship if he is still this way. He needs to heal to be able to start a relationship with the dentist and have a family.
Is Dusik right that sucess is not all money? Is HyeJin right that he has this skills and he should use it? There are so many things to flesh out.

I can think of an american movie Good Will Hunting. Like him Will Hunting was a
Math prodigy but a delinquent a victim of physical abuse and abandonment. He was mentored by a renowned MIT mathematician who save him for jail time in exchange for psychiatric visits and advance/high math tutorials. He is loyal to his friends. He refused opportunities for high paying jobs like the NSA, etc and broke off with his medical student girlfriend because he wants to grow old with his friends who are in low paying blue collar jobs. He was diagnosed as attachment disorder. His best friend told him that he is sitting on a winning lotto ticket and he refuses to cash it in. His friends would like to have the same thing as you. And if he is still here after many years doing menial jobs he said I will kill you - it is an insult to us. In the end, after therapy, he decided to follow his medical student girlfriend to California and most likely cash in the lotto ticket.

There are so many dramas /rom coms but only few that people make time to analyze every detail, every facial reaction, every words, every plot than Hometown chachacha. The fact that many people were affected means the writer, actors, director is doing a great job. I find that it is impossible to multitask because you will miss some relevant conversation, facial expression, etc. Looking at Reddit, Twitter, MDL - just how much conversation was generated from this drama.

This was a remake of a 2004 Mr Hong the movie. It is a romcom. As you mentioned, it is well written, direction, well acted, well casted which already makes it unique. However, each character arc gives us life lessons and a social commentary of various aspects of life in a remote seaside town. Also they explored LBQT issues, gossip, sexual harrassment, lonely parents whose kids are too busy living in the city, etc. Slice of life. The 2D1N variety show was added because the original Mr Hong was a 2d1n cast member who died from a car accident.
