I do know what the male gaze is and that’s exactly why I’m saying parts of The Handmaiden still fall into it. You can have a film that critiques male fantasies while still visually indulging in them. That’s the contradiction I’m pointing out. Just because the message is “liberation” doesn’t mean the execution is free from male gaze aesthetics.

I get that the film meant to show how disgusting and controlling men can be. I’m not denying that. But honestly, just because that’s the “point” doesn’t mean the film gets a free pass for how it shows those things. Yeah, the relationship between the two women is supposed to be central, but those scenes dragged on for so long that it didn’t feel like intimacy anymore it felt like something that was meant to entertain, not to deepen their connection. Even though a woman directed it, it still felt like it was trying to satisfy some kind of male fantasy. That’s why I said it was disgusting: not because I missed the point, but because I didn’t like how that point was delivered. The style of it undermined the message for me.

So yeah, I watched it with my eyes wide open and what I saw didn’t feel as empowering as people claim. It just made me uncomfortable, and I think that’s valid. So if you don’t like my point of view it’s fine I’m not trying to persuade u, have a good day

they were directed by a man lol it was produced by Park Chan-Wook 😂😂 I’m not talking about the lesbian sex scenes on the point of view of how they’re made because it doesn’t shock me that much, I’m talking about their length which is really long and detailed that’s why I’m saying it’s focused on the males gaze, the revenge wasn’t THAT good in my opinion I’ve seen way better, just two women getting in love and escaping together after that was just a normal reaction it wasn’t that deep, the only beautiful scene was the last one in which they were running together but that’s it

well I'd say probably yes because I didn't like mostly of the plot because of many scenes, but tbh the plot twist was reallyyyy great, I didn't saw it coming at all. That just wasn't my cup of tea at all although i love revenge movies it sadly wasn't just it (my opinion)

It’s just horrible I don’t know why ppl like it so much when it’s so clearly written for men, it’s actually nauseating. That final scene is disgusting, and the guy is seriously messed up for writing that she would recreate some BDSM stuff with her girlfriend — the same stuff she was forced to read in front of pedos who fetishize lesbians. those of you who think this movie is hot or are reviewing acting like this is just a cute movie about two gay women are absolutely sick, you guys watch too much porn, are so used to the mistreatment and violence against women and dont see anything wrong with it and need to get a fucking grip. If you can't see how this movie is obviously directed towards the male gaze is obviously trying to make being lesbian sexy for men you're so fucking stupid. This is a weird ass movie, i really don't get what yall see in it and i really didn't need to see all that in the sex scenes. Anyhow the start of the movie was good and slay for them getting revenge, but the movie just wasn't good.
