Gap is the mother ship of Thai GL. The meteoric international success of Gap and the abiding popularity of the two main characters, Sam and Mon, and the actors who portray them, have established Thailand as the undisputed leader in the Girl Love genre and paved the way for what has become a steady stream of increasingly professional and well crafted GL dramas.

Even though many new series have followed Gap, this groundbreaking show still rates as the best loved and most watched, likely owing to the openly affectionate and trusting relationship between Freen Sarocha and Becky Armstrong. Their on-screen chemistry and the realism with which they portray a deeply loving relationship keeps them the preeminent GL couple in the industry.

Like Denied Love, Us is a 2025 GL offering from Thailand. The story follows Pam, a dental student, and Dokrak, a young woman estranged from her family and struggling to support herself so that she can live independently. The attraction between the two is apparent in the first episode and the directly gives the story time to develop their relationship organically. The standout feature of Us is the mutual trust and respect of the lovers, their support and patience with each other, and the avoidance of contrived conflicts - there are conflicts, of course, owing to family relationships, circumstances beyond the control of the lead characters. There's a lot of character development all around for both the main leads, the second couple, and strong supporting characters.

very similar, im shocked no ones recommended it. FL lost parents and was raised by bad relatives, she meets an influential women when shes a kid, lady sees her mistreatment and wants to adopt her but loses her memory before she can and the adoption falls through. Fast forward to future, lady starts regaining some memory and wants to see the FL, but the FL's horrible aunt/foster mother lies to the lady and makes her think that the girl she was gonna adopt was actually the FL cousin/aunts daughter, with the intention of getting money. The FL's are very similar and she also meets the ML the same way as in shining inheritance, like at the airport with a mix up, and the ML in both shows are nepo babies.

Both:

- Beautifully shot
- Historical Epics
- Lovers surviving hurdle after hurdle

On one hand, My Dearest is better plotted and more set in historically accuracy, on the other hand it isn't as romance heavy and as slick in delivery as Dear Hongrang

I feel like the vibes of both these dramas are pretty much the same regarding the romantic comedy and friendship trope.

- Royal FL (Queen in MMMQ, Princess in GZJS,YWRRYXFS)
- Aloof warrior-type ML
- FL has a harem that helps her regain control of her court
- Flirty FL x Shy ML
- Historical short length cdramas

Plot has differences and FL in MMMQ is far more playful while FL in GZJS,YWRRYXFS is cold and ruthless.

- FL goes back to her youth (in TPR both leads do while in GZJS,YWRRYXFS only FL does)
- Princess FLs that are favoured by the emperor
- FL cleans up the court and corruption
- Scheming, cunning, cold, and ruthless FL (colder in GZJS,YWRRYXFS)
- Supportive, devoted, kind, and caring ML
- Mistreated ML whom FL protects
- Fight for the throne (in TPR FL fights to secure her brother's position as heir while in GZJS,YWRRYXFS FL wants to the position herself)
- Political
- Gender role reversal

Main difference is the romance and the ML. In TPR ML is a mistreated noble whom marries FL as her consort and both travel back in time to their youth while in GZJS,YWRRYXFS he's a bodyguard who had no relationship with FL until the story unfolds.

- Both dramas explore the concept of identity, where both FLs undergo physical transformations and get to experience "different" lives through their changing appearances.

Specifically, in My Girlfriend Is the Man: The lead character's girlfriend transforms into a man for part of the story. And the romance evolves through this unusual situation.

The Beauty Inside: The FL wakes up every month with a different body. The drama focuses on how she navigates her relationships and love life while dealing with this constant transformation.

Both shows combine humor with more serious, heartfelt moments. They play with the absurdity of their premises while also exploring deeper themes like love and acceptance.

There’s a soul swap and tidbits of time travel in Mr. Queen; a modern male’s soul wakes up in a female body where he has to get used to her life as a soon to be queen while uncovering secrets from her past. Whereas in My Girlfriend Is the Man the girl turns into a guy while still having to live her normal life, with a boyfriend and all. Regardless, I’d say that both both dramas dabble in similar theme ; would you still like your lover if they one day turned into someone/something else and does gender really matter over their personality/soul? I wouldn’t say either of these tackle the questions they pose in any grandiose way, so don’t expect anything thought provoking, but it’s still a fun exploration of the theme with quite a few comical moments.
