Ayaka suffers a traumatic spinal cord injury due to a fall on her 23rd birthday. Remembering the red mangoes from her hometown in Kagoshima Prefecture’s Osumi Peninsula, she picks out a bright red wheelchair and begins her rehabilitation. Formerly a nurse at a Tokyo hospital, Ayaka is used to being the one who helps others, but now she must depend on people to help her. While at a rehabilitation center, she has a difficult time with her condition. She complains to her mother and the hospital staff constantly. Ayaka improves though by exchanging letters with her grandmother and by communicating with other people in wheelchairs, who give her the strength and determination to live her life to the fullest in spite of her disability. One of her new friends is Shota, a rock musician who is also in a wheelchair. Edit Translation
