A drunken couple, Mee-young and Young-kil, are caught by Private Kang at a military patrol zone. In a panic, Kang opens fire, killing Young-kil. Though traumatized, he is rewarded with leave for "catching a spy." Upon returning, his behavior grows erratic, leading to his discharge. Unable to stay away, he lingers near the base. Meanwhile, Mee-young, driven mad by her lover’s gruesome death, mistakes other men for him and is exploited by soldiers.
