Exciting Concepts, Messy Ending

Because of its widespread popularity, "W" has attracted lots of criticism. I quickly heard about the drama when I first got into them, but because of such negative criticism, I stayed away from it. I finally decided it was time, though, so here we are.

I don't want to sit on its problems for so long, so I'll just overview some of it. First of all, there are a great deal of plot holes and points of confusion that aren’t really explained (despite the somewhat prolonged ending). Despite this, I would still argue that the pacing of the show keeps you so invested that the plot holes aren’t so cumbersome, merely occurring because “the plot demands it.” The concepts and points the writers are making with the plot points are so interesting as well that it makes it easier to suspend your disbelief.

The second problem for me is the ending. It is very messy and much darker than the more intriguing first half. In fact, it is shockingly dark, in my perspective, which contrasts with some of the themes and purposes of the show. Juxtaposed with the even more confusing story line, the second half and its ending dropped my rating from an 8 to a 7.

As opposed to the popular opinion, I do not find Jong Suk Lee to be the best actor. Despite having an entire character laid out for him, his fake smiles and flat deliveries struck again. Even if you don’t love him as I don’t, this won’t deter your entertainment from the show. But as a side note, shout out to Eui Sung Kim who did a great job.

Because the show is absolutely entertaining. Every episode brings sometimes several new plot twists that you never see coming (mostly because they are never explained, but still). There is a more philosophical take on life that I haven’t seen much in K-dramas which was fresh and enjoyable.

So even though it isn’t perfect and is full of choppiness and “wait, what?” moments along the way, I would say this show is worth watching for its interesting take on writing and life.

Side note: my rewatch value is always my entertainment value because I hardly rewatch dramas. As always, I am so appreciative of the work and efforts of the cast and production team into making this show. It is a lot of work to put together any type of work of art; and we get to enjoy it! So big shout out to them and those making it available to us.

Mindblowing piece of art, but lacking in the romance section

This may be the first time I have written a review before completing a series, and it's only because it's too good to wait.

I have never seen such an interesting worldbuilding, where there is an overlapping of a fictional world and reality, where danger and characters can cross over both worlds. The first episode has completely captivated me, and the rest of the episodes contains so many twist and turns, I was left gasping or squealing at the end of every one if them. I did start feeling very bad for the choices FL has to make all the time, and for her dad as well. And sometimes, the plot does become a bit confusing, especially for those who actually use their brains when watching a drama series (cuz I don't). But either way, the plot is still interesting enough to grip your attention.

Albeit some parts were a tad scary, but that's only because I am very very easily scared.

We have superb acting from both ML and FL, and I especially love ML's cheeky yet warm smile. I think that the ML may be one of the most substanced male leads I know, if that even makes any sense. While in many dramas, the ML is there purely to be FL's romantic partner, but this is not the case here. We witness ML's growing understanding, sympathise with his situation and actions. And he is not simply an FL accesory.

The only bad bits were that I feel like so much is happening in the plot, there wasn't enough time for ML and FL's relationship to truly blossom. I was slightly disappointed with this bit, as obviously it was the main reason I had started it. That's why I dropped the ratings to 8, which is still a really high score only redeemed but its interesting world settings. The side characters weren't very well developed either, as they were like props to push along the storyline, with only a few being an exception.

One of the best Lee Jong Suk drama.
If the beginning was a little weak to me, a little clumsy, the rest of the show is outstanding.
Romance lovers, you will be satisfied. Fantasy lovers, you will be satisfied. Comedy lovers, you will be satisfied. If you are seeking for suspense, you will be satisfied as well. This show has everything for itself.

The main characters are no weak nor strong. They are human and don't have all the clichés characteristics lots of characters have in K-dramas.

The OST is incredible and I keep listening to it occasionally.

I will definitely rewatch it.

this show is the best. this is one of the shows that the main lead actor is not arrogant and doesn't have a mean personality. he is really kind to everyone and helps everyone. this story is very confusing cuz there are two different worlds. one is a real world and the other one is the world inside the story that the dad had created. but, don't worry they make is easier to know the difference between the two worlds. this drama is really romantic. the guy is always suspicious of the girl but, he helps her out and takes care of her because he finds her as a different gal. you should see how they first meet. it's already pretty tense. like it's really suspenseful. you would just die to wait to find out what happened. towards the end of the show I was literally on the edge of my seat and I really wanted to skip to the ending to see how everything went because there are like 3 huge plot twists that affect both people. literally the best drama to watch.,.

The story's too twist to be Rewatch?

I mean It' Good
The story's extremely twisted. I thought it was finished but It didn't. 🤌🤌
I was so into it that I forgot about MORALITY. They shoot like it's a usually.🤷‍♀️
In my opinion, It ended in the best way as possible 'cause If not, they'd be too🤏 buff.

SO, It's GOOD ONE✨😊 I recomend It but If I have to rewatch I rather not 'cause As you know, I already know the plot twist, So It's not surprise anymore👍

I think that this drama was very intense, and for me, there was a lot of tension because of the many things at stake, which is why I also feel that the payoff was very good. I found the plot very creative and I think that the ending was very good and very emotional. (I cried so hard that I got a headache). I really need to praise Kim Ui- Seong, as I think that he really did an amazing job at acting, as his character was complex and I feel that it would've been hard to portray. In conclusion, I think that this drama is very good and deserves a watch.

Perfect !

I love this one so much ! Still one of my favorite after all this year. This is so original, i have personnaly never seen something that refreshing, funny, with action, romance, and good twist.
I am quite shocked of the reviews or comments, i things it was even better because until the end it didn't went in the way we wanted, it's more suprising and interesting.

I will watched it again, even if i already watch it too much i think...

First of all, don't get me wrong. I do like Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Jo. They are one of my favorite talents. But this drama has too many loopholes in the story. I cannot find myself to like both of the main lead and neither I can find their chemistry at all. I find the romance is being too forced and does not make any sense at all. For example like the true main heroine of the manhwa So Hee, how can she get pushed away by a mysterious girl that just show up? The writer is very sloppy in creating the plots with a lot of unexplained things like why the female lead was summoned in the beginning and then the no face killer. And how come the no face killer has awareness? I thought the story focuses on Kang Chul? I also find the story is also being dragged too long with so many weird romance filler. I mean the manhwa is a mystery genre, but then turn to be a really weak mystery genre. I don't feel any suspense at all. I find the idea is nothing new and not all that groundbreaking (maybe in k drama this is the first time about cross world manhwa theme but the plot with the no face killer thing, I find the plot is easy to recognize). I find myself being really impatient and skip so many scenes.  -______-" I know this drama is a hit but at the end, I just can't find myself liking it.

Oh wow, W is a favorite.

The story line was unique and how the story unfolded was great. I seriously clapped my hands when I finished the drama in the shortest possible time.

Bravo to the writer of W. I thought how did he think that every twist and turn would work?

I saw a few dramas of similar genre afterwards and I did not feel the same way as W. I was not lured in the story like W did to me.

Thank you cast and crew of W!

I would HIGHLY recommend this drama to EVERYONE

I LOVE everything about this drama, it's the first (K/C/T/J) drama I've re-watched and will rewatch many more times without getting sick of it. It still blows my mind when I think about the plot of this drama, especially from Kang Chul's perspective, how this random woman (Yeon Joo) came to his world only to litterally be the "key to his life" in every way.

This is my favourite Kdrama and my favourite cross dimension drama. It is also the only cross dimension drama I've seen where there aren't any plot holes and where the main characters travel back and forth between the two dimensions several times. All the episodes are VERY detailed, relevant and much more fast paced than I remember it being. There are a total of 16 episodes in this drama, and it was the PERFECT length for this drama to develop and conclude with a satisfying ending.

The main leads, Lee Jong Suk and Han Hyo Joo had amazing chemistry and visuals, they looked so good together. I loved how all the side characters were relevant to the plot. They may not be relevant throughout the drama, but they had their roles to play, and when they came in, they became a major part of the plot, especially the villains. The OST fit really well with the romamce/thriller of the drama. I loved all of the cast, they were perfect for all their roles. Main leads aside, Kim Eui Sung was amazing as Oh Sung Moo who had some of the best plot twists and most unexpected character developments.

This drama has everything and will fit several genres including: romance, mystery, thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, action, psychological, medical and comedy. It's such a well rounded drama that I HIGHLY recommend to everyone.

"W" stands for wow, wonderful and wickedly exciting. This drama was a roller coaster ride, it starts off with a bang with the FL being pulled into the webtoon world to and saves the ML. Then it gets kind of sweet where you see the leads relationship start and develop then back on the roller coaster as the story unfolds. I just finished this drama last night and I think it's the 31st drama that I have watched and I have to say that I am truly sad this one is over. I fell in love with the leads, their lives and their story. There is no shortage of surprised in this drama and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Watch this drama if you want an exciting story.

DAMN. This plot had everything I'd ever dreamt of, as a fangirl who'd spent late nights reading fanfiction and dreaming about fictional characters. Except it was a thousand times better because there were so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming. As the title says, the plot was absolute genius and I loved how the plot twists actually built upon one another.

To be honest, though, I might have enjoyed the first half better than the second, mainly because of one huge plot twist that broke my heart and never really got resolved the way I wanted it to. Still, it was hard to stop watching.

Soo Bong was probably my favorite character. Though he was so minor, the character development was there, and he was ALWAYS relatable.

Last thing: I swear this drama has like the longest and slowest car rides ever?? ESPECIALLY when the characters are in a rush...
