An Enjoyable Blend of Romance, Mystery, and Superhuman Abilities

This was my second time watching My Amazing Boyfriend. Before I begin, I should mention that I've never watched My Love From Another Star beyond its first episode.

The story itself was quite interesting. I wasn't familiar with any of the cast and decided to give it a try after reading the synopsis: a romance between a 500-year-old superhuman and a B-list actress. The drama is adapted from a popular Chinese novel by Shui Qianmo.

What has always puzzled me is how often people compare this drama to My Love From Another Star and claim it was inspired by it. Based on my limited knowledge of the Korean drama, the only similarity seems to be that both male leads possess supernatural abilities. My Amazing Boyfriend is not really a fantasy drama, as both main characters are human. The male lead's genes were altered, making him immortal and granting him abilities such as enhanced speed, strength, super hearing, and even the ability to float or fly.

For his acting debut, Kim Tae Hwan did a commendable job. His character was intentionally aloof and emotionally reserved, so he didn't have many opportunities for dramatic expressions. However, when he did show emotion, the changes were subtle yet noticeable. Janice Wu, on the other hand, was excellent as the female lead. She managed to portray an eccentric and lively character without becoming irritating. In fact, had the character been played differently, I might have dropped the drama after the first episode.

One of the highlights of the series was the female lead's relationships with the people around her. While there were moments when she came across as whiny or slightly annoying, Janice Wu balanced those traits with enough charm, determination, and strength to keep the character likable. I especially enjoyed the scene where she declared that she would take responsibility for the male lead. In her own unique way, she stayed true to that promise throughout the story.

The supporting cast also delivered solid performances, particularly Yang Aro as Feng Dong Dong.

The opening and ending themes suited the drama well, although I must admit that I usually skipped them.

Since this was my second watch, I wasn't on the edge of my seat anymore, especially because I already knew the identity of the villain. Even so, the drama retained its entertainment value, which says a lot about its rewatchability.

Overall, I genuinely enjoyed My Amazing Boyfriend and looked forward to its second season. There wasn't much material left from the original novel unless the author decided to add new chapters, but I was still interested in seeing where the story would go next.

This is pure trash

This is pure garbage, first, the lead actor is really but VERY bad acting, so much so that I have a hard time taking the series seriously, I think they only put him as male lead because he's good looking lol.

This drama is super predictable and cliché and that makes it extremely boring, and the villain acts like a complete idiot and does things that make no sense, I can't go into details because that would be spoiler.

Also, the side characters have unnatural reactions and not true to their personalities in dangerous situations and it's very weird.

Also, the lighting in this drama is very bad, they put very white light and highlight soft and pretty colors in distressing situations when it should be the other way around.

I think the only mildly interesting character in this cdrama is the villain although the villain is also poorly written.

This drama is quite hard to watch if you are over 12 years old.

It is such an amazing and beautiful drama that made me laugh and cry throughout the series.I am more than satisfied to watch this one though I am not a fan of Korean actors.

Plot
The plot is simple yet interesting. As I have never watched You who came from the Star, I don’t know which one is better but this Chinese version is totally satisfying. Though the ending seems a little rushed and there should be more love scenes between the leads, maybe all of this is for season 2.

Cast
Janice Wu carried the whole drama, some people don’t like her but in my eyes her acting is funny, and it is all her acting that breathlessly took me to the end.As for the male lead, his acting is okay but not very impressive either. It would be perfect with a Chinese actor though.

Music
The opening soundtrack is not bad and other songs are good as well.

Rewatch value
I would definitely watch it again.

As I became a fan of Janice wu, it is pretty hard for me to accept Yu Esther as Xiao Zhi immediately. I don’t understand why they changed the casts for season 2. But I am pretty sure that season 1 is totally impressive and it is worth watching.

It took me a day of binge watching to finish this show and honestly, it was pretty worth it. At first I was like meh but the main female lead was making me laugh so hard and I liked the chemistry between the two so I was like I can definitely make this work. I'm bummed they couldn't be in the second season but I'm anticipating it. I liked the assistant and everyone on how they were friends and helpful, I just truly liked the love between the two characters and the families and the twist and turns of the story as well, overall good show.

Fun/funny

Really enjoyed it. Not exactly what I expected but a lot of fun for what it was. It took a little while to get used to the FL acting but once I did I had a lot of fun.

Score: 10/10 for EP1 to 20; 6/10 for EP 21 to 27. 4/10 for EP28
To be honest to enjoy it I skip some of the storyline, I find I don't really care much what's going on on the side of the bad guy. I'm in this drama for the romcom and I don't mind a lil heartache if that's what's necessary. That's why the first 2/3 of the drama is a must watch for the fun the romance and her falling in love with him. Fast forward necessary for the last third of the drama if you are like me.

Acting: 10/10 for Janice Wu Qian;6/10 for Kim Tae Hwan;8/10 for supporting casts
Janice quite like her character in My Sunshine was so lively and unapologetic, interesting juxtaposition against tae hwan as the cold blood xue monster

Romance: fluffy ttypes with squabbles, comedic moments, sweet moments and nice skinship lol quite a bit of good kiss scenes. I find it amazing that they can generate the chemistry despite not speaking each other's language as tae hwan is being dubbed (side note I saw interviews where janice speaks to him in English and he could comprehend it enough)

I wont spoil it but i have to say i wish it was wrapped up better in ep 28... could have been best comedic romantic drama until they spoil it with that ending

I've recently click and watch scenes that I love. So needless to say Rewatch value is high for selected scenes for me

Now there's buzz there would be a second season.. We shall see. Personally I thk Amazing boyfriend is a must watch C drama for 2016

For the Good, For the Bad

I tend to watch dramas that are more modern romances but the concept of this supernatural romance and it's rating on Viki made me give it a shot.

For the Good, For the Bad!

For the Good:
- This supernatural concept fit very well for a romantic drama. The method he used to share his blood to the FL gave us a lot of laughs and cuteness. It was a great way for the writers to fit in random bits of romance and sometimes hilarious encounters.
- I liked the antagonist and his "origin" story which made me believed his motivation for being so evil. It didn't feel random or far-fetched. It was plausible and made sense. Honestly, even if he didn't have the backstory he had and only knew of the ML's abilities that may have been enough to make him "evil" but they added a layer his story making his motivation even more convincing.
- The 2nd ML. That's it. That's all I'm really going to say. I just found him lovely.

For the Bad:
- The acting was rough. I'm mostly referring to the 2 leads. I loved the ML and luckily his awkwardness fit with his character so it was easier to overlook but I didn't like his acting as much as the 2nd ML who was (again) lovely.
- I found the FL to be incredibly annoying at times. Everytime she cried I wanted to rip my ears off. Luckily I found her to have other redeeming qualities so I kept watching but she definitely got on my nerves a few times.

Despite there being some pretty slow parts at times and my annoyance with the FL, it was an interesting enough concept and cast to keep me watching until the end.

Am I glad I watched it? Yes.
Would I re-watch? Unlikely.

The only thing I'll give this drama is that there are some scenes that are truly laugh-out-loud funny, and that the main character's straightforwardness was refreshing sometimes. At the same time, however, she did get a little annoying because she overreacted to every little thing.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why everyone loves the male lead. He was boring and his first impression was that he was doing some creepy Edward Cullen stuff. Honestly I'm just tired of the "strong and silent" male trope, in general. It got really frustrating to have to watch him say stupid and hurtful things to TJZ over and over again, and she STILL chased after him. I liked the second male character, the police officer, a lot better.

SAVE YOUR TIME!!! Don't watch!!! (Or at least not until 2018) This drama ends in a cliffhanger! Like I'm fairly new to dramas so have only watched 30 or so and none of those ever ended in a cliffhanger and with a 2nd season as well. First of all I struggled to get through This but kept pushing through cuz I wanted to see how it ended. But it doesn't end! The 2nd season comes out next year. Until then my rating for this will be low. Lesson learned on my part though, moving forward I will be checking to make sure the drama doesn't have a 2nd season.

I was pleasantly surprised by the show, I didn't expect to love it so much. The lead actor and actress are so cute...they are the cutest on screen couple I have watched so far. I love fantasy and sci fi shows and the concept is somewhat similar to my love from the stars (another one of my favorite dramas) and yet it is totally different from it at the same time. I am eagerly waiting for season 2!!!

It is an absolutely amazing drama. I even have my favorite-tist episodes (I know that isn't actually a word but...) I highly recommend this drama. There are some faults such as the accuracy and realism of the stunts and graphics but the plot, comedy, acting and romance well makes up for it. I realllly need a season 2 for them. Loved it!!!
