A Timeless Favorite

Where do I even start with this drama? This is one of the only dramas where I fell in love with the ML and the FL... and the two together as a couple. The chem between the MC is amazing and the way the ML fell for FL first is my fave thing ever.

Also... let's talk about Min Min. He is the most adorable ML I've ever seen in my life. The way he's constantly in awe of how cute Bong Bong is had me in a puddle on the floor over and over. (Where can I find a man like this?? He's PRECIOUS.)

The way he was in awe of Bong-soon from the very beginning was sweet AF. He wasn't scared of her. He wasn't trying to use her, he was genuinely interested in her as a person... and, despite her super strength, all he wanted to do was protect her. Unlike SML, though, he didn't smother her. He guided her. Directed her. He respected her and tried to help her utilize her strength rather than just using brute force. And the scenes where he was teaching her boxing/self-defense??? She was so much stronger than him - and he knew it - but he understood that she put herself in constant danger, and wanted her to be trained to protect herself, too.

And Bong Bong... she is one of the rare FLs that are actually cute and sweet and feminine without being obnoxiously childlike. She was innocent and a bit naive at times but also had a very wise soul. A sense of deep responsibility to use her abilities to protect those in need. She was strong and knew how to stand her ground, but also had a delightfully petty side paired with a hilarious innocence that made the show so damn funny at times.

And the plot... somehow, this show manages to be funny and cute and disturbing and romantic and thrilling, all at the same time. It didn't drag too much, and I loved the thriller aspects of the show (although I've seen complaints that it didn't "fit" the vibe. I disagree. I loved how the darker scenes balanced out the fluff & humor.) The serial kidnapping plot was bone-chilling at times, and I really liked how they wrapped it all up... I could've done without the gangster side plot altogether, though. It was cringey and completely unnecessary IMO, and I actually ended up skipping most of the gangster scenes in the last half of the show.

Altogether, this show is one of my all-time favorites. Park Hyung-sik & Park Bo-young were absolutely brilliant as the MC and their chem, acting, and vibrant charisma (both together and apart) made this show absolutely iconic. Definitely one I'll be rewatching over and over.

Overall: 95
For me, this drama lands in my top 5 favorite South Korean Dramas, and probably my top 5 favorite dramas in general.  This was a rollercoaster of a ride, that had complex story, yet three dimensional characters.  The acting, the consistent plot, and the different emotions it portrays made this a hit drama in my eyes, one I would gladly watch over and over again.

Story: 9.5
The story was something I have never really seen before in a way that portrays a woman as the superhero in my days of watching Asian dramas.  I particularly liked the way that it was set up to follow a clear formated path.  It took you down twists and turns of what was going to happen next, but it never, in my eyes, lost what it clearly was.  A comedic story yet with a dramatic overtone.
The only issue I had with the story plot, was the sub-plot that seemed irrelevant in the long run, such as the one with the gang boss and the school gang.  It just seemed like it was meant to fill up time in some areas.  Though I enjoyed some of it, it just didn’t seem to be there except to help with comic relief.  Which is a good thing for a story that is meant to be a comedy but going down a dark path.

I enjoyed mostly the romance between the two leads.  It’s been awhile since I saw the man chasing after the girl portrayed in such a healthy way. Though whether or not a drama can ever portray a healthy relationship is another entire conversation for another day, that I’m not even sure of my own answer.
But this drama comes close it.  The romance is what brought me in, but the action and comedy is what kept me.

Acting/Casting: 10.0
There wasn’t a moment where I thought that the cast was wrong.  I thought every single person who was chosen for their character played it perfectly.  This was in my opinion one of, if not the best casted Dramas I have seen in awhile.  Though some of the sub-plots were boring to me, no one was out of character even in those tiny roles.

The Two main leads had chemistry with each other that skyrocketed through the roof since the first moment you see him lay his eyes on her.  The chemistry between the secondary characters and the leads was perfect and didn’t feel disconnected.

But what I was pleased about with the acting was the subtle little hints that something was going in their head.  The realization to go from a comedic moment to one of the most dramatic was what made this drama click for me.  One of the scenes where you see the male lead in the hospital acting happy, but then that immediately goes away when his family comes into the picture.  The backstory the character built up, showing plan view for others to read.  The second lead who sees the world in black and white in the eyes of the law, struggles with his own feelings of denial, and the grey zone in between relationships.

The sudden switch of emotions of some of the acting, going from comedic to dramatic in a matter of seconds might be off putting to some, but for me, it truly showed the acting skills of the moment.  The scene where she's drunk and brazen, yet vulnerable and sad hits me every time, because it's one of those moments you realize humans are more complex in their emotions than you believe.  This characters were not two dimensional, and I can see that even in the ridiculous characters such as the gang boss, they two were also three dimensional.

Music:  9.0
I’m not really a music reviewer.  So I tend to make this brief with a simple explanation.  The music in this drama set what the moment was going to be.  The comedic superhero entrance or the dramatic, tale of a serial kidnapper who ruins people's lives.  The worst crime you could think of, against the funny, sometimes three stooges comedy that we're going to witness.  Without the background music pushing the feelings, you honestly wouldn’t quite know who to feel.  So overall, the music was good and well placed throughout.

Rewatch Value: 9.5
Re-watch value I believe is all up to the viewer.  If you entirely enjoyed this drama as much as I have, you wouldn’t hesitate to make this re-watch value high.  But if you have issues with it, you wouldn’t necessary add it to you must re-watch list.  For me, it's a highly rated drama that is in my top 5 of Korean dramas I love.  So I highly recommend re-watching it.

I watched some of this show back when it was on Netflix (this was years ago) but today I finally completed the series. Overall, I really enjoyed this series. The main character had flaws but she was so well written. I didn't get second lead syndrome because the main couple were just so good together. Seeing their relationship develop was literally one of the best parts of the show.

The only thing I didn't like too much was the dragged out comedy scenes especially when those scenes would go back and forth between the main serial kidnapper case. Speaking of that, the final battle between the villain and Bong Soon was so lackluster. I was definitely expecting more action lol. The romantic scenes between Bong Soon/Min Hyuk made up for that because I was originally going to rate the show a 8/10.

Anyway, this was enjoyable and I'm kinda sad that it's over.

Great Concept storyline

Thank you Writers and Producers. For once a Drama that doesn't have a so called Bad Boy or Rich guy that demeans, yank, jerk, get the the face or grab the FL like he owns them. For once I am watching a drama that the female doesn't mumble nor is she weak minded. She does take crap from folks that do her wrong. So far so good on this series. I think the Chines Writers and Producers can learn a couple of things about using strong willed, don't allow men to boss them around female roles.

I am looking forward in watching the rest of the Series. On Eps 1 and 2 I laughed so hard. They have some good twist and turns in this series. I like that they explained the way Do Bong Soon is, in the first episode. They didn't take 3 or 4 episodes to explain.
Do Bong Soon's mother is tripping. She is funny. The mother is out there! She about money straight up. The mother gives a bad name to Asian mothers. It makes it look like they are all about money. Who in the world goes to bed fully clothes?😂😂😂.

The more I watch Ahn Min Hyuk , the more I don't like him. He is a rich boy trying to use his influence to get his way. In Gook Doo is a better person. I think deep down he likes Do Bong Soon. Ep 6 looks like this K-Series is going to do the same thing C-Series do - The rich guy get the woman and the nice guy loses out. I am hoping In Gook Doo get the girl. Why can't Do Bong Soon see what Ahn Min Hyuk is up too? I know it's not in the script.

I was disappointed with the ending. Having said that, I will recommend folks watch this Series, you'll laugh and cry and get angry. PS. Can someone make a Romantic drama where the poor, good guy gets the woman. It seems the be always the rich, arrogant male wins out.

Amazing Mix Match

Can't believe this drama could be so good. This is #1 on my favorites list. How can the chemistry between the characters be soooo good. All the genres go so well together. The ending is my most favorite. If are planning to watch it don't drop it or are not planning to watch it then you should it's amazing. I have watched this drama over 10 times now and I still love it. I was just browsing though and wanted a drama to watch then I watched this I fell in love with it. If you are a suspense, thriller, crime and rom-com lover then don't forget to watch Strong Girl Do Bong Soon. It full of Swoon and chill giving moments. I love this Drama.

I have two criteria for a 10 star drama: 1) It has to make me cry and 2) It can never make me angry. Sadly, SWDBS didn’t meet either of these criteria, although it came really really close to meeting criterion 1. Nevertheless, I loved this show to pieces, and it would’ve been at least a 9.5 had episode 13 never happened (I still can’t get behind the weird “first, do no harm” logic that only seems to apply when it’s convenient to the writer). I absolutely adore Park Bo Young, and I absolutely regret not watching a Park Hyung Sik drama up until now. SWDBS didn’t feel as filler-y as other people claimed, but maybe I just really enjoy a good slice of life. For once, I really really liked the crime/thriller aspect of the show (maybe I’m growing to like it or maybe it was just dumbed down and simple enough for me to appreciate lmao). Anywho, I personally thought the giant mix of genres worked quite well for this drama, and I enjoyed all parts of the show quite a bit. I’d definitely recommend SWDBS to all levels of kdrama addicts, and I’m impressed it took me this long to pick it up.

This series has a really good structure and plot,  and it's an original story.  Also, the same way as the story progresses you fell in love with the characters and the actors too. All the actors do it very well in their roles, I believe that they are irreplaceable and very talented. It is a slightly frequent romantic history that breaks with the rules of the typical plot where the boy saves the girl who is in danger. In this series, the two characters saved each other from different events. Highly Recommended.

Stron Woman Do Bong Soon

Park Bo Young - as always perfect, maybe not my favourite role but she always acts so amazing.
Park Hyung Sik - I do not remember if I seen him first here or in Happiness, if here then good thing I also checked Happiness, cause here eventhough he did a good job he did not caught my attention
Kim Jisoo - he did good job, wished he get more kdrama's roles.
Unpopular - I do not see PBY and PHS chemistry, I mean it was good but I believe they have much better. Even more unpopular the couple I could totally see was PHS and KJS - just absurd, I do not know why........
Plot - I really like mystery/criminal part of the drama, otherwise it would be too cute for me, cause this drama is really cute, adorable and bubble - but when there were dark parts or sad it matched my taste better.
Not bad, I really understand why it is favourite for many, I just prefer main leads in other dramas.

MY FIRST K-DRAMA

During quarantine I decided to venture out of the western-hollywood scene and explore more international titles. This drama was the very first k-drama I came across and I absolutely LOVED it! The cast & characters were amazing and fully entertaining the entire time. I expected the show to be more romance than anything else, but to me it was definitely more of a Drama-Comedy. I love the family dynamic, it felt very classic; I love the female lead actress/character; and I love love the "thug boss" character (I could not stop laughing every time I saw him). The villain was questionable at times, but very interesting and I did not expect the end outcome. Overall, it is now a staple in my list and something I would recommend to any/everybody!

Me encantó
