I have not been so addicted to a drama in so long until I stumbled upon Love Alarm on Netflix. I think it’s due to the fact that it reminds me of the tucked away love I have for Boys over Flowers or The Heirs, or the fact that Song Kang reminds me of Lee Min Ho. It’s definitely a flawed drama with imperfect characters, but it’s such a “crack drama.” It has so much heart to it where it pulls you in as you’re experiencing the burning chemistry between JoJo and Sun Oh. Hye Young is probably the easier choice for JoJo as it will bring less heartache but the chemistry between JoJo and Sun Oh is undeniable that you can’t help but root for them. During the show, some of the choices that were being made makes you question the writer, like why would Sun Oh kiss JoJo knowing his best friend likes her; however, during the press conference, it was known that he fell in love with her at first sight. Second, why would Hye Young go after her knowing that his best friend dated her? It’s like two guys breaking bro code. But honestly speaking, this stuff happens in real life all the time. I guess this show does depict flaws in every character. Ultimately, if you like boys over flowers/heirs type of drama, then please do watch it as it is so addicting. If you don’t, then you will probably not be that fond of it. Regardless, this is definitely a thumbs up for me, for sure. Was this review helpful to you?

When I see the tag: Love Triangle
I'm usually out, I never liked them in any story.
Now let me go against all that I just said, to say: Best. Love. Triangle. EVER! It turned out to be an all out Love War.
I realized what made it so good was the time jump. So the story talks about the Past and Present, what happened when the APP launched and then it jumps to 4 years later. I feel like the Leads (because there is no Main/Second) switched roles, which makes it so good.
In the past it was Sun Oh in the driver seat with Hye Young taking a passive role, loving from a distance. Although I feel Sun Oh started off unethical, with Jojo having a boyfriend and knowing his BFF liked her. However, you really saw him fall for her and truly love her.
Can I pause here to talk about my love/hate relationship with Jojo, just as Sun Oh's pursuit in the beginning wasn't a righteous one, she didn't really stop him either (cheaters always make me cringe). Her story is definitely sad and you see her fight through, not giving up. I truly felt her fear when it came to loving someone else, but the immaturity of feelings at that age *sigh*. I feel like if she had her mom, someone she could talk with, her choices would be different, but we wouldn't have a KDrama then would we? lol.
Back to the Love War, everything changed when we jump 4 years into the future. Sun Oh with someone new, horrible, but then here comes Hye Young taking a chance, okay I see you! Hye Young isn't going to stand on the sidelines this time. He goes old school, pursuing her without the APP, not even caring if she rings his alarm. Then you have Sun Oh who is passive on the sidelines now (I get it she broke his heart) but honestly still loves her after everything, hating himself for that.
And then it ENDS!
Now I'm left here without closure. Taking a realistic look, if she did go back to Sun Oh, how would the relationship look? for 4 years he was left believing she didn't like him, their relationship would need constant reassurance for Sun Oh (hence the reliance on the APP to confirm ones feelings). That's not easy to live out, its almost too broken to fix, all because of Jojo's fear. Buuuut the Chemistry, sooooo good!
Hye Young is a more realistic, healthy option, but I'm going to need more to be sold. I mean it's delicate now because you want both guys to be happy, if we can see Sun Oh accept the truth and Jojo can sort out her true feelings and be open giving them both closure, then up the Chemistry with Hye Young, I could buy it.
Whichever way it goes, I think this is a triangle I can love.
Spoiler Hypothesis!
Can I also add how I think one of the side stories in this Drama is going to play out?
Duk Go. The creator of Love Alarm. I don't see him as being dead. I know the guy on the stage wasn't him, but I don't think he died. I think he's switched teams, I think he sees the bad that came from the APP and is now a protester, specifically the guy driving the van at the end. I'd love to see him be strong, since he was so shy, and take back the company changing it for the better somehow.

um, i think the relationship between them is toxic.
as for the story, it was unique where two phones near each other could tell whether you love the specific person. it was nice, yeah. i thought of downloading that app bc it seems so cool. NOW for my review, i think sun-oh is um toxic. he clearly knows that his bestfriend has feelings for jojo but he still kissed her knowing jojo has a BOYFRIEND. im waiting for season 2 hoping that jojo would end up with hye-young. if not then HYE-YOUNG deserves so much better. he's actually so kind and is always there for jojo. it'd be another school 2015 if they don't end up w/ each other. Was this review helpful to you?

dis drama was alright. It had lots of good parts and lots of dumb parts :( my head hurts because some actions don't make sense. Anyways JOJO rly sad i am sad 2 :( Hope JOJO has better life in season 2 cause my heart hearts. Actors were lovable (i love the bowl haircut pinoy boi fav character <3) but I did not feel like I had a personal connection with them. Story telling was quite interesting the way they decided to narrate it. Overall felt like the season felt a bit rushed and wasn't enough time to narrate the story :( sad because I had high hopes. I will still watch season 2 with a hopefull heart that it gets better.
Yours truly,

Ps. A big thanks to all my fans following my reviews. As i watch more dramas I shall review them <3

Love Alarm is a hit or miss from its characters to its story line. To begin with, the story between our three leads, Jo Jo, Sun Oh, and Hye Young is a point of conflict for many people who watch this drama. Jo Jo, a girl who is actually dating someone, is being chased by childhood besties Sun Oh and Hye Young. I personally found that the story was sweet, filled with tons of cheese and cute scenes. The relationship built between Jo Jo is also reflective of her personal story. As someone who had a troubling past and upbringing, she's constantly burdening herself while playing it off around others. She's a Cinderella in some ways, in the sense that her family isn't the best and that she meets her prince charming one day. Although the story line of Love Alarm seems basic and cute on the surface, it dives deep into the actual consequences of what an app like Love Alarm would do to a person. It intertwines a story of love with the shadow of darkness to what it means to ring, or not ring someone's Love Alarm. The time progression is steady, with some points being rushed but I could understand that due to the constraint of so little episodes to develop it all. Even with their near hour length, Love Alarm is face paced in some ways also, constantly keeping the story going. Although I don't like filler, I don't like rushing so it was conflicting for me. The key point is the split between their high school-days, and the time skip which happens 4 years later on. The gap shows the personal growth of all three of our main characters, from their highs to their all time lows. It's what also keeps you on the edge of your seat as it also ends on a cliffhanger.
Kim So Hyun has never disappointed me personally, and I loved her as Jo Jo in this drama. She always gets the main parts of the character and as Jo Jo, she knew how to convey the turning points of Jo Jo's story. This was my first drama with Song Kang and Jung Ga Ram but I equally enjoyed their performances as the charismatic yet cold Sun Oh, and the shy and awkward Hye Young. Shin Seung Oh, who also played a 2nd lead character, is from A-TEEN, the web drama which you should also check out. Lee Se Jin from PDX101 was also cute as a little cameo in this film, so support our future acting boy.
The music was gentle and soft, but also strong in the message that went along with the mood of the scene. I personally saved the soundtrack off of Spotify because I loved it so much so give it a listen if you're interested.
I would definitely watch Love Alarm again, even if it meant going through that roller coaster of emotions. For me, Love Alarm is a ringing that resonates beyond words.
This has been, Love Alarm.

Concerning the actors, I LOVED them all. They are ALL perfect. The music was really good too, but I wish there was more different songs. I know that some people didn't like the flashbacks in the drama, they thought that it was useless and that it was becoming annoying, but for me, I didn't mind them.

- The colours, the excellent OST and Kim So Hyun’s amazing portrayal are the highlights for me.
- I can see why people say the premise is ‘Black Mirror’- esque. For me personally, I think it captures the darkness of technology in today’s world. People don’t just use apps, they depend on them. So I love how this series asks the question of what happens when we use apps for our romantic relationships.
I can’t think of a better setting than in a high school, and as the story progressed we see the main trio enter their early 20s. It’ll be interesting to see how the next season takes this coming of age theme with the technology in mind.
- The romance rolls pretty quick, but the chemistry of the leads helps to drive it well.
- Beware of some frustrating character decisions, but it helps to elevate the ‘grippy-ness’ of the story.
- This was painfully short, half the amount of the average drama (Netflix is to blame lol). So I have qualms Of it ending in a cliffhanger. However there’s a second season coming (yay thanks Netflix lol). It being short doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing. It’s just frustrating, but it’s a good taste for someone wanting to dip into KDrama world. (Although disclaimer, I’d recommend it alongside some great stories that are more of the usual length.)
O V E R A L L : On the surface it looks like another fluffy high school romance, but don’t let that deceive you. The unique technology premise gives the age-old ‘love triangle’ a good shake. Overall an entertaining watch, thankful for the emotional depth of Kim Jojo anchoring this series with gorgeous scenery. We haven’t seen how this story plays out so I’m expecting great fruit to come in the next season.

(Warning: I'm team Sun oh)I just finished watching this drama like an hour ago. I really wanted to watch this drama as soon as it came out but when I heard that it's a Netflix drama and that it has an open ending.. I was really hesitant. I waited for ages until I saw a fmv on youtube and I was convinced that I had to watch it. No regrets there. I finished it in a day.
The drama is beautifully shot (like most kdrama thb). I love the actors and their acting. Especially, the female lead. I guess I have a sort of secret love for her and her acting. She's just great.
I hope there will be a second season with a good ending and her ending up with Sun oh though. I hate open endings.
Also, I wish there was a better explanation to why Jojo left Sun oh. Like, I understand that Jojo is afraid of him and everyone knowing the truth and being hurt. But there must be another reason. Is it because she doesn't want to hurt Sun oh because she totally did. Or is she just too afraid to speak out her feelings and thoughts? In this case, I just want her to grow a backbone. Afterall, everyone saw her personality grow a little. Being able to speak out to her aunt and to her niece. Now she just has to tell the truth and her feelings to the one she really loves aka Sun oh. I really don't want her to keep Hye yeong close to her when she knows she'll never feel the same for him. She is just leaving him hanging. But he too... He should just let it go. (Actually he was quite creepy when he followed her at the beginning of the drama.)
(Side note) The girlfriend of the male lead is quite pathetic actually. I feel sorry for her. She loves Sun oh dearly but he'll never love her back. Especially, not the same way. And Sun oh.. my dear... Has a pathetic family. Everyone that he loves keeps saying they don't love him. And Jojo dumped him so harshly and suddenly, it's sad.
Thus, I gave the storyline a 7 because of the ending. Oh and because of Hye yeong was being a bit creepy.

I loved the story, and I loved how they put on screen the theme of people not being able to love without telling it to everyone and also not being able to confess it like the old times but only throughout an app!
The first episodes may appear confusing, really confusing, but they get into one thing from the 6 episode!
I devoured this show, and I can't wait to know how it ends since there are two different roads to follow for JoJo!

Terrible ending, terrible plot
I felt like the plot was written by a child in kindergarten it was just so terrible. Even if I go on and on about how much I hate this drama it wont be enough to portray my feelings. The casting was actually really good and the production team did well. The music was also fitting. The problem was the story itself at a point it felt like different scenario's put together to form a story. There were like a dozen or so plot-holes and some things just happened all of a sudden and made no sense. All I would say is that if you want to watch this I would rather recommend watching love alarm 2 without watching this at all. It's your own choice in the end and maybe you'll like it, for in the end everyone has their own opinions. Was this review helpful to you?
