When We Were Young

人不彪悍枉少年 ‧ Drama ‧ 2018
Both are youth dramas set in the 90's and focusing on the friendship of a group of high school misfits and their adventures and misadventures, with a rogue-ish yet good-hearted male lead.

they're both about life and the lessons we learn from it. It's relaxed but tense and while one takes place in a 90's high school and the other a modern workplace, they both make you feel emotional with the experiences of the characters. Misaeng is a little tenser since the adults' cut-throat world is harsher than that of the students' but you feel connected and moved by their stories nonetheless.

If you enjoy very well done, slice-of-life dramas, you will enjoy them both.

A group of roommates in their early twenties and their life issues, relationships and life lessons. A lot of funny, sad and heart warming scenes, suitable for coming of age theme, friendship and overcoming difficulties that comes with becoming a new adult.

Youth drama, mostly taking place in high school, about friendship and family. It also has same actor (Marcus Li) in it, but he plays a support role.

We only have two episodes of Twenty-Five Twenty-One but I think if you like this show then you'd really enjoy When We Were Young.

When We Were Young is a Chinese show about students in the year 1996, so there is a similar vibe going on between these two shows. Although When We Were Young doesn't have an age gap between the two leads, this show does well to really create the curiosity of "Will they get in the future?" from the viewers (like we get from 2521).

It's very wholesome and full of fun family and friendship relationships. Even though we don't know much about how the rest of 2521 will play out, I think When We Were Young is a good show to watch after/when watching 2521.

When We Were Young and Never Grow Old are very similar s they are set in the 90s if I recall correctly.
They focus on friendship and family bonds, more specifically the former.
The way it's filmed and edited is pretty similar.

although WWWY is more high school centred and PYHOMS is more college-ish centred both dramas have a smart male lead that does pretty well in school. In both the dramas the female lead has a childhood friend and in which the male lead also comes into the picture which causes a love triangle between the three of them. Both dramas also have friend group that goes out and hangs out together and both shows also portray the school/college life pretty well.

Similiar time frame and cinematography. similiar concepts of youth except Only the Wind Knows is more mature and deals with heavier subjects but the vibe is similiar.

Also both about poor lower-class students, and best friends slowly falling in love.
