I thought it stunk

This drama made me think, do all Koreans talk to themselves ALL.THE.TIME.? Is it a bad thing for Korean ladies to have their natural hair color or is it a law now, of course this drama is a bit old, to have to dye it an awful reddish color? Do all Koreans sleep with the lights on?

Only good part for me was Park Min-Hwan's character is quite the cutie with a beautiful smile. Only reason I started watching it is cause Park Seo-Joon looks a lot like my late Japanese friend and I enjoyed his roles in "Itaewon Class" and "She Was Pretty", but his character is this drama is very unappealing. Very weak script IMO, the only thing that was interesting was when the two characters were children, but even that is quite unbelievable.

very bored

I really got bored watching this drama. Nothing interesting was happening, all the chapters were the same and I couldn't wait to finish it. The secondary couples were much more interesting

.............Edit (spoiler may be in the part read at own risk):
I can't believe it's over :( This drama to me deservers more than 10 stars. I was so happy with the ending i could not stop smiling :) it took me to finish now because i did not want to watch the last 2 episodes because i knew it would be really over lol. This is a drama i would watch over and over again. This is the first time i'm writing a long review and it because this drama really deserves it too. For anyone reading this defiantly recommend it!

Romcom Korea yang Gak Bisa Ditonton Satu Episode Doang

Menurut aku, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim itu drama romcom yang ringan tapi nagih.
Adegan romantisnya gak berlebihan tapi bikin senyum sendiri pas nonton. Alurnya cukup ringan, cocok buat ditonton pas lagi pengen hiburan tanpa mikir berat.

Overall, I watched this series a long time ago and honestly got a bit scared by the opinions, because back then I really liked it.

It was a show I watched with great pleasure, and I couldn’t wait to start the next episodes and learn more about the characters’ past and future. The relationship between them is very enjoyable, and the chemistry practically jumps off the screen (plus lots of sweet scenes — I’m in love). The characters are very well developed, and I appreciated how the series shows problems faced not only by the main couple. I really liked how childhood trauma can affect adult life. On top of that, the side couples’ storylines were interesting — for me, the best one outside the main couple was definitely Kim Ji-a and Go Gwi-nam. From the very beginning, I was rooting for them to end up together…

SPOILER!!!!
And thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed. Well, maybe just a little, because I would have liked to see a lot more of them on screen after they got together, but I can survive that — the most important thing is that they ended up together in the end. The only thing that really annoyed me was that the male lead initially allowed her to get close to his brother, even though he knew it wasn’t his brother who was kidnapped with her, but him. I figured it was due to his trauma and, as I later learned, also because he pretended in front of his family that he didn’t remember it — but it was still idiotic to me. Not enough to lower my rating, though, because I’m simply in love with this series.

To answer the title’s question, nothing is wrong with Secretary Kim (played by Park Min-young). In fact, she is the Rolex of secretaries. Proficient, efficient, confident, and competent. But at the peak of her secretarial career, she unceremoniously turns in her two week notice. This causes her boss, Lee Young-joo (played by Park Seo-joon), to spiral into a comical frenzy. Why? His feelings of friendship, and possibility of something deeper, have been stewing under the surface of his perfect exterior for almost a decade. Having taken her for granted for over nine years, Young-joo's emotions bubble over as we see him face an acute sense of confusion at the potential the loss of his secretary and right-arm woman. What comes next is a series of misunderstandings and office antics between the two as they face the problem of finding a new back-fill, deal with office antics, and eventually face the feelings for each other.

What's endearing about this show is Young-joo. He's unabashedly egotistical and self-absorbed, but his comedic timing in this series is near perfection. At the same time, Secretary Kim is smart and sassy. No damsels-in-distress here. Just sit back and watch these two dynamic personalities clash. Additionally, while we get to learn our couple's backstories and journeys that led to the current situation, the series starts with the dramatic resignation. Rather than get to know the characters as the get to know each other, this is the point where many couples are already giving the traditional 10-year aluminum. This series comes with all the cliches you want in a rom-com including love triangles and office romances, but it also has a nice depth of tackling some of the problems a boss/secretary relationship would encounter. If you want a model of a rom-com that does it right, look no further than What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?

Made to be Rewatched

My first impression maybe one or two episodes in was to wonder how will they get 16 episodes out of this basic set up. As the story unfolds layers of hidden reveals and story twists emerge to justify those 16 episodes. On rewatch I appreciated the foreshadowing and reveals placed early on but which require that second time through to fully get.

For example, pay attention to the flashbacks connected to each character. In particular and I say this without spoiling anything note the flashbacks with the main male lead. These point towards whether he does or does not remember certain events and who he really is.

I enjoyed the steep character arc of the main male lead, but also the less obvious arc for the main female lead.

All in all a very entertaining story that improves the second time through.

A drama made to enjoy

This is one of those series made to enjoy. It has romance, comedy, a little drama and even some suspense. Nothing very pretentious or deep, but a fun love story full of clichés that delight viewers.

It became one of my favorite comfort dramas since I first watched it and I have rewatched it many times.

Park Seo Joon is my favorite actor, and in this series, we see his ability to make people laugh. What's more, the on-screen chemistry between him and Park Min Young is undeniable.

My only criticisms are that some secondary characters are too overacted, and that a couple of chapters at the end were not really needed in the plot (when the female lead is not so focused on the arrangements she should be making).

And since this is a light romance comedy, I understand why it doesn't delve into the traumas and narcissism of the male lead. I agree with it.

Lastly, I can't help but mention that Park Seo Joon's kisses in this series are among my favorites.

I cannot believe it's so highly rated

Hear me out: I like both leads as actors, and I enjoyed their performances in other romance shows in the past. I don't fault them for the show being not that great.

I instead think the story was haphazardly thrown together and it harmed the show. I've seen worse shows that had me glued at the screen nonetheless. Here, I never felt any urge to watch the next episode...

Some people say "it's not that deep, it's just a silly romcom". I like silly romcoms. I've watched and enjoyed silly romcoms. That's not the issue. It was silly and goofy, sure. I just can't with the amount of "oops, I've fallen into your arms" bit, which I can endure/enjoy when it's not done 1 million times, with no real impact or purpose.

Some say the side characters are great. I'd agree for the most part, but also, a lot of them are under-developed, here to serve a very small purpose in the storyline, and could be erased from the rest of the show without really harming the continuity. So... Some of them are interesting, others are good comedic relief, but otherwise, a bit lacking.

The whole dramatic backstory was a big ol' bore, through and through. Couldn't wait for it to be done. And once it was resolve, all the "trauma" just disappeared from people's life, magically. Commit to it or don't do it at all. Because of the tone of the rest of the show, it also didn't feel as emotionally charged as it should. I was just annoyed every time it came up, and the acting surrounding the issue felt forced and sorta dumb. Yet, again, I know these actors can do so much better, but the material was just too weak imo.

If you're unsure after a few ep, do yourself a favor: drop it. It almost put me in a kdrama slump. Instead, my advice is to go look at pictures of the fashion from this show. That's the one thing they did that was really EXTREMELY well done (except maybe for one thing on the last ep, but I guess it's just not to my taste). The show could be a "corporate girlie inspo" pinterest board on its own.

This is a cute, and light and rom-com.
The plot is not much complicated and simply balanced ... It is a good thing that their past connection is not a coincidence and rise suddenly.. well planned. ❤️
The leads chemistry is funny, emotional yet "Super Hot " as a couple ???????? Park seo joon done simply awesome performance as an adorable narcissist, his expressions, feelings, everything is portrayed perfect and has the "Aura" .???? Park Min Young's classy style as secretary is Superb...She is hardworking and perfect.. I just love her character. The side characters are also loveable and have their own little love stories... which is cute. The dialogues, comic timings specially between Park Seo joon and Kang Ki-young.
Background music is average.
If you're looking for best rom-com to lighten your mood. This is best for it. With loads of laugh and romance. This is worth watching.
????????

This was the very first k-drama that I ever watched, and it began my obsession with k-drama in general. That's the best testimony I could give.

For a drama that has such a dark sub-plot, this drama was surprisingly funny. The romance was hilarious, especially the jealous scenes, and I loved the chemistry between the two leads. The side characters were really interesting as well, and I enjoyed seeing how other relationships developed.

I was SUPER intrigued by the mystery aspect of this, and it definitely delivered. The backstory was nothing that I'd expected, and the cinematography creeped me out successfully, which was a great balance.
