I don't write reviews on here, but this show is just different.. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

I was putting off watching this drama for a long time because of its length, and the fact that's it's been censored compared to the original story, but as soon as I started it I was completely hooked. The story, the acting, the music, the sets, the costumes.. All so breathtakingly beautiful.
The cgi and special effects aren't the best but It didn't take away from the drama at all, it added to its charm.

The drama has 50 episodes, which at first seems daunting, It quickly becomes not enough. I'd happily watch another 100 episodes of this show.
The story is gripping, with new twists and turns every episode, making you question every characters motives, you connect deeply to the characters and are left heartbroken for them.

This is a show that will stick with me for a long time, if you haven't already watched it, do yourself a favour and give it a try!!

At first I watched this show, I was really confused about the stories but this is make me curious and more curious for what will happen next. This is the first drama I watched that have more than 20 episodes. I really mean it when i said the untamed is the best. The stories, the actors, the music, the quality of videos, all is THE BEST. I also think the actors is born for their character cause they're played the characters very well!! you must watch this drama. I really love it. I watched this drama more than 6 months ago but I still can't move on from this drama and really want to rewatch but I have no time :(( anyway I really really recommended this drama. your time will not be waste, trust mee!!

This is the best . Literally ,a beautiful masterpiece.

I remember waiting weekly for an episode to be released . I fell in love with the theme song,the plot ,the characters and the story line .
We are introduced to the characters Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan . Lab Zhan is more of a cold ,reserved person while Wei Weixuan is the naughty ,loud and getting into trouble . This story first starts with WW coming back to life by someone resurrecting him ( we don’t know who but we later find out or suspect someone at the end of the series), he wears a mask so no one recognizes who he is at first but everyone finds out later . That’s when the truth of what happened 16 years ago (ie WW falls off a cliff and dies ),he was accused of a whole lot of things when he literally saved their lives especially his brother ( WW was adopted by his family ,they died though) , it’s somewhat getting to the end that his brother (quite impatient) sees how much WW did for him be he regrets but they don’t really talk it out . I really loved this drama . There were moments I cried (esp the part where he gave up his golden core ,etc), there were parts I turned into a detective and there were parts that I was happy . I really fell in love with the OSTs so much so that whenever I hear it or him the tune ,it gives me nostalgia till date. This is a drama that you can watch over and over and not get bored easily . All the actors really embodied their roles .

very beautiful series (but not a BL)

i have seen this more times than i can remember and i will watch it a lot more. this series is so perfect from the acting, the music, the scenery to the story, the plot, and the ending. usually, i don't like things that go back and forth with time frames but this is not confusing at all - it's very easy to understand what time frame the series is in at that moment. so, don't worry about that when thinking about watching this. also, i am not someone who ever watches period dramas bcs i find them rather boring with all the talking but this was never really boring even when there's a lot of talking in one scene. so it has a good interesting script.

the acting between the two leads is spectacular. the only acting i didn't really like was from Jiang Cheng's and Yan Li's characters. But they still did a great job. so good acting overall. the music is also beautiful! i never pay attention to music in tv but i just have to really listen to the music in this series - it is so nice.

really, the only complaint i have about this series is the fact that it's not a BL like the novel is. BUT... if you really pay attention and understand the meaning of some things, there is a bit of queer-coding in this series. just nothing outright queer since it is a China-made series.

anyways, i recommend this series to bl and non-bl fans. it really is one of the best Chinese series of all time!

I've probably watched it thousands of times now...

In short- everyone has probably already seen it, but we gotta make it a tradition to watch it at least once a year, just like how I read the novel at least once a year. Although it's not a point-on-point afaption of the nove, the same story either way. It's honestly insane just how much of the novels story they put into this! But there is something I hoped was exactly like in the book, it was the switching between past and present. I hoped ot would go just like in the book, but it went to the past and stayed there until the very end, then back to the present. It made me unable to wait until we can see the present again. While it was more simple that way, it did get me impatient from time to time. But at the end of the day, I would watch this again for the rest of my life.

Wei Wu Xian / Wei Ying (played Xiao Zhan) Wei Wu Xian the Yiling Patriarch. He is outspoken and playful. He does what he thinks is right and he fights for it.

Lan Wang Ji / Lan Zhan (Played Wang Yi Bo) Lan Wang Ji is the second young master of the Lan sect. He wields the Bichen sword and the Wangji guqin. He is cold, strict, distant, and difficult to get along with, but he has a good heart and a strong sense of justice. He holds a soft spot for Wei Wu Xian, whom he regards as his soulmate.

Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji, two talented disciples of respected clans, meet during cultivation training and accidentally discover a secret carefully hidden for many years. Taking on the legacy of their ancestors, they decide to rid the world of the ominous threat. But in a dramatic turn of events, Wei Wu Xian dies.

Sixteen years later, Wei Wu Xian is brought back to life through a self-sacrificing ritual. He conceals himself behind a mask and assumes the identity of his summoner Mo Xuanyu of Mo Manor/Pavilion. And in return he will take revenge for whoever mistreats the real Mo Xuanyu.

Personally, I haven’t read the novel or manga so my ratings and reaction are solely based on the drama itself. And as for the drama their “Soulmate” relationship is one of kind. They know exactly what they are both thinking or going to do by just looking into each other’s eye. They can read each other's mind. You can feel their trust , loyalty, commitment, longing, and respect for each other.

Overall, this is one of the best wuxia dramas for me. I think I watched it 2 times when it was aired. There are lot of backslash on this drama especially when they compare it with the novel but since I didn’t read the novel and I always think of it as a stand-alone drama (not based on any novel or manga) I find this drama very interesting, I got hook instantly and fell in love.
This is my first drama of Xiao Zhan and from then on, I fell in love with him especially when I watched the BTS of the Untamed. He is so cute and playful. His looks is ethereal. And the way he portrays Wei Wu Xian is perfect. Honestly, I am a bit upset about his scandal previously. Not because of him its because of the crazy fans. They are freaking crazy that Xiao Zhan was almost cancelled in China even he didn’t do anything wrong. But Thankfully! he is very okay now, though he looks more distant and conservative now than before where he always looks he can do whatever he wants freely. Still! I am happy that he is doing well despite of what happen.❤️❤️❤️

Tissue Rate (aka how much I cried); 3 out of 5

- I usually am picky about the historical Chinese dramas I watch and I always have a hard time finishing them or not trying to skip through an episode but coming into it, I had HIGH exception for this because it was the first drama I've seen on kisskh with a rating over a 9 as an average and also many people who I was friends with on twitter had suggest this drama because this was the drama that had lead them into watching historical Chinese dramas and my brother had even said it was good so I finally decided to watch it because I had nothing better to do for this corona quarantine lol...

Story; I gave it a 9 out of 10 because I was just tired of the bs the characters of the other clan had to say. Like they would only blame Wuxian/ Wei Ying because he had this magical power from the yin amulet. Also another downfall of mine for it to be a 9 out of 10 is because I didn't how Jiang Chang and Wei Ying ended there relationship, not exactly ended but how things got left off. At the end I wish Jiang Chang didn't let Wei Ying leave and actually say what he had to say because you clearly could tell he had something to say to Wei Ying but didn't say anything instead left him leave and then said "take care." There was so much misunderstanding between them, I wanted to see them amen things before leaving it as it is. But overall a 9 out of 10 serve its right, I really enjoyed the storyline despite the bs it came with. I like that the twist of the plot that it came with as I continued to watch it and not to mention the bromance was WONDERFUL, it wasn't to little but it also wasn't too much that it became cringy or anything.

Acting/Cast/Music; I LOVE LOVE LOVE the casting and how each and individually portrayed their character, you can really see the emotions through there acting. I especially loved Xiao Zhan character Wei Ying, I adore him so much for being such a kind soul despite all the hardship he had to go through and I love and appreciate Wang Yi Bo's character Lan Zhan for always standing by him even though he knows he could get in trouble for it. Music wise, I really enjoyed the outro song sung by Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo, I would always watch the drama till the outro was done because I loved listening to it.

- Finally overall, I would re-watch this drama in a heart beat and I would recommend this drama to anybody who is into watching dramas despite it being not the kind of drama they would watch, I really feel like anyone would enjoy this drama ❤️

Below average.

Plot - banal. Out of 50 episodes, I was only interested in one thread. Additionally, the plot is absurdly chaotic.
Pictures, costumes, scenography - typical. After you've seen 10 costume c-dramas, this one doesn't make a better impression than the others.
Special effects - as if I were watching cheap productions from the 1980s.
It is even worse with music, because its idiotic pathos reminded me of Hollywood blockbusters about ancient Rome "Quo Vadis?", "Ben Hur". "Cleopatra" etc. shot in the 60's.
All this would have disqualified this drama for me if it weren't for XZ. Sorry, that's my personal opinion, I hate WWX, which is terribly annoying, but XZ played it so daringly that it knocked me to my knees with his acting. I learned to ignore the cheesy special effects, annoying music, endless boredom of the plot and a whole host of shortcomings, errors and absurdities, because I was seduced by XZ's acting. Due to the XZ, I don't give this drama a well deserved 1 star. I don't care if fanatical CQL fans find my review intentionally malicious. For me, this drama is below average.

Overhyped, greatly.

I only watched this because I've seen the anime and also read the book. And it is because I've seen the anime and read the book that I was able to make myself finish it.

I don't understand why this became so hugely popular considering the acting was mediocre at best, and the plot whilst they did their best under censorship laws, lost what made the actual story so great and riveting - the gore, the horror of dead corpses, the actual BL romance and not 'bromance', etc.

It is definitely one of those dramas where it was painful to watch throughout - terribly acted out scenes, inconsistent CGI quality, lacklustre fight scenes - but something you can't completely regret watching. I've got to hand it to Xiao Zhan though, because that last cut of his smile actually made me forget how terrible the entire drama was, so I guess there's some reasoning to why he's so famous now.

But no, this is not 'the best drama ever' 'high-quality acting' bla bla. It's just a drama with two good looking leads, a somewhat unique storyline, and a free pass to ship two men because the original storyline has these characters in an actual relationship. Just know that there's also a lot of inexperienced acting, low budget extras and CGIs, forced fanservice by way of OOC lovey-dovey glances from Xiao Zhan to WYB, and a typical plotline of good guy forced to turn evil, rather than the original good guy forced to create evil, which is what makes both the novel and the anime so much greater.
