Spent a few days just watching this
Oh. my. god. I just finished watching it. I have read the novel too, but a while ago. Ever since then, I have been somewhat avoiding the series, I somehow hated the way they did the hair close to the face - stupid I know, but I felt like I don't want to add cringey details to the story in my head. In any case, I highly enjoyed this series, I marathoned it and trust me, it wasn't easy, as there are 50 episodes. I loved most of it, truly. But the ending really shocked me, I was blown to bits. I know they wanted it to be less romantic, make it less intimate, but that is truly impossible with these two, you cannot separate them like that it doesn't make any sense and I was feeling sick to my stomach watching them as they were in the end, especially because a the very end we never see LWJ. I feel unsettled with this ending, after the whole terrible build up. Don't get me wrong though, I feel like the series was definitely worth seeing, but now I just have to go back to the novel to calm myself. There is some rewatch value (I won't revisit it that soon, it is too powerful, but I see lots of other people rewatching immediately), but it is hard to imagine rewatching a 50 series piece - especially since along the way a lot of other characters had very long winded speeches and we all know what and who we came here for. In any case, the series has its appeal for different types of audiences and I can appreciate that. I also liked the goriness and all the blood spilling, why not. Ok folks, I am off to re-read the ending of the novel. Was this review helpful to you?

A true classic
As an avid cdrama watched who has watched over 100 cdramas, I have been constantly told to watch the untamed, a highly rated drama that almost every true cdrama watcher has watched. Finally, last week, I succumbed to the hype and watched this drama and I am glad to say that it did not disappoint!!As a note, I did not read the novel and did very minimal digging before watching!
Before I talk about the many positives of the drama, I would like to talk about the negatives, which is only that the beginning was a little boring and slow. At first when they transitioned from the present to 16 years before I kept thinking when would it switch back cause the past wasn't interesting, but in reality as I watched, I started to understand how everything builds up and was especially picked for you to see, building and building until you understand exactly what led to the present and what might happen later in the show. Its like a giant spider web, full of connections and very intricate and interesting!
Despite how boring the beginning was, I pushed through and I was glad I did because it only got more interesting and better. The plot being overall very decent and actually kind of reminded me of mysterious lotus casebook. Overall, plot is interesting though can be predictable and cliche especially if you have watched many cdramas.
What truly made this show were the characters. The actors (especially Xiao Zhan and Wang Yi Bo!) really outdid themselves brining these characters to life. the relationships between them, their emotions, their experiences are all so touching. My heart broke for Wei Wu Xian most of the show! and as many others I loved the dynamic between WWX and LZ. Though I understand the original novel is BL, i see their dynamic in the show as soulmates, not romantically, as friends, with a bond so strong and pure it is honestly so beautiful, a kind of emotion i have only really found in cdramas.
After watching the drama, I researched a bit on the show and was honestly so sad to see that a beautiful friendship between XZ and WYB was destroyed because of how crazy nations can be in China; they deserve so much better as professionals who delivered such an extraordinary performance on screen!
I also want to focus on the OST, i loved the music, especially when LZ was singing in the cave. The theme song was very catchy, and was a beautiful duet between XZ and WYB. Will be listening to this on the bus!
Overall, it was a very nice drama to watch, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Do give this a watch!

Acting - Excellent acting and casting.
Production - Excellent production with good direction and special effects. Fighting scenes were good and chemistry between actors were excellent.
Skipping scenes - I didn’t skip any scenes because the plot and story were intriguing.
Overall - an excellent drama however I could not relate to the chemistry between the main actors for obvious reasons. Not an even higher rating because of the supernatural content which is not really my cup-of-tea.

I highly recommend this show to everyone. Please, please watch it and do not expect to understand what's going on in the first episodes. That'd be preposterous. Just give it a shot. It's a masterpiece. I sincerely do not understand why some mediocre shows have extremely high viewership and this show does not. It deserves all the love and recognition in the world.?❤?

Casting: Wonderful cast as even the minor roles and support roles were praised. Xiao Zhan portrayed WWX so beautifully and Wang YiBo also portrayed LWJ beautifully. I cannot imagine anyone else portraying them. In addition to the main, Wen Ning was amazing. He was so innocent and it truly aches my heart that he had to go through all that BS so props to Yu Bin for being so cute lol. Xue Yang was legendary as well. His character was suppose to make me hate him but I just couldn't; I feel pity towards him and the actor Wang Hao Xuan did so freaking well portraying such a character.
Cinematography: The scenes were beautiful although there were certain scenes where you can tell it's a green screen like the boat and the lotus scene lol but other than that, everything was beautiful.
Overall: I genuinely love this drama and it's a drama that when you start you have to binge in order for it to fulfill you but when I finished this drama, I was having withdrawl symptoms because it just felt like I lost something to look forward to. However, I highly recommend this drama and you will definitely fall in love with every character.

Highly Recommend!
This is my first review on kisskh, yes that's how much I enjoyed this drama that I must write a review about it.Best chinese drama ever seen!
Each one of the characters in this drama is very well played and not over-acting at all. Although I dislike the evil characters in this show, however, I have to give credit to them because they bring the evil out from that character they portray.
Obviously, the two male leads are amazing, can't even choose one over another, they both are super awesome together. Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo definitely bring Wei Wu Xian and Lan Zhan characters to life.
I was a little confused in the beginning, the first couple of episodes but as you should because you need to let the drama tell its story. It's hard to explain all in words how the relationships between the brothers, the friends, siblings and the two main leads in the dramas are, you have to watch it to understand and experience the emotions the drama brings you. This drama stirs up a different kind of emotion in me which I’ve never experienced before in other dramas.
I love Wei Ying and Lan Zhan relationship, how they care for each other, trust each other, and support one another without questions or reason. I'm glad the script writers didn't overdo or under-do their relationship and kept it so beautiful. I highly recommend this drama if you're debating on watching this drama or not.
Love the theme song throughout the drama!

BEST C-DRAMA EVER
Unbelieveable. That's the only word to describe this whole drama. I watched some best drama, But this one is very crazy.Story : The storyline is very good and has many plot twist in it. Initial Episode (16 years later) indeed made time confused, and also episodes 10-20 was a little bit boring. But what happened next really covered all the flaws in the previous. Complaints above can also be overcome when you watch The Untamed Special Edition (cut version to 20 episodes).
Acting : As a beginner at C-Drama and not familiar with actors like Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo, I was fascinated by their acting. Plus another supporting cast that is also very good, especially Jiang Cheng, Wen Ning, and Wen Qing (because I've seen Meng Ziyi on Ever Night and The Legend of Condor Heroes). After watch The Untamed, I made Xiao Zhan as references in finding films and finally found some, like Joy of Life, Oh My Emperor, The Wolf, and Douluo Continent.
Music : Wonderful. All the music in this drama is very very great. From Opening music to the Closing "WuJi" Soundtrack is very wonderful.
Rewatch Value : This film is worth to be watched again 1000 times (Although some scenes might I skip like when Wen sect attacked Yunmeng, etc.)
I dont know why, but Some scenes will always be in my head, Like when Lan Wangji drunk at 36th episode and almost stole 2 chickens for Wei Wuxian (I can tell that cold people are very funny when they are drunk)

PRECIOUS SIBLINGHOOD | A Review from a Wuxia Noobie
Heads up, I usually skip out on wuxia genre dramas but I've been hearing so much hype about the drama that I just had to check it out! So it's no surprise that I also did not read the novel.I know this was originally a BL story but I'm kinda glad it was adapted into a bromance/strong friendship story. The main reason being how I've always admired bromance themed shows due to the pure focus on friendship and loyalty. It's just a personal preference.
Besides the expected bromance between the two leads, what I DID NOT expect to love more was the beautiful siblinghood between Wei Wu Xian, Yanli, and Jiang Cheng. The brother-sister relationship between Wei Wu Xian and Yanli was so precious and utterly heartbreaking at times. Yanli's character made me wish I had a younger brother that I could protect and love that much. Those were the best scenes for me in this drama. :")
The first 2-3 episodes had a lot of information and names thrown at you and can definitely get confusing, especially for someone like me who had almost zero wuxia knowledge (I had to google about "cultivators" and "golden core") but it gets better! This drama only really started to pique my interest from Episode 15 onwards. It was solid until it came full circle to continue the timeline at the beginning of the show where Wei Wu Xian was resurrected. From there on, the storyline became a little dull for me. It wasn't bad but I think I was just expecting more.
And now onto Xiao Zhan, the actor who played Wei Wu Xian. Gosh I did not expect to fall for his smile. It doesn't really get to you in the beginning, but after about 10 episodes in, I find myself just being foolishly happy to see him smile so brightly. He has definitely gained a new fan/supporter here. I'll be looking forward to see him act in future shows and will cheer on for his career.

this is everything you could ask for
okay so imma just keep this short and say: its good, trust me.if ygs wanna read my whole review then go on but I warn you, I may hype this show out of proportion to the point that you might be disappointed if you watch this after reading it.
anyways, lets continue...
Seeing that I gave all 10s for my review, I would just like to say, I came in with no expectations, I saw it on Netflix and thought the photo, sypnosis, and preview looked real cool and interesting. I was blown out of my mind when I was hit with this masterpiece. I know it sounds like im hyping it up too much but like its THAT good, trust me.
The plot was just perfect, although confusing, it makes sense as it goes on and everything wraps up in the end so beautifully. There are time transitions, betrayal, death, love, parent issues, no parent issues, sibling love, AMAZING BANTER, and just perfect chemistry.
if im missing smth, just include it into my list above LOL
after finishing the show, you can say that I got what you call: post show depression. nothing would compare but I was still so addicted. I was sad that it ended. 50 episodes just wasn't enough for me.
you will fall in love with almost every character, if not you'll understand them.
the main characters had substance and a story, the side characters, the evil character, they had it ALL
I have to single the MLs out though bc they really made the characters their own. I couldn't imagine any other actors filling that role. the chemistry was EVERYTHING between the two. they say that actors change to fit their character, but Yibo and Lan Zhan made the character their own and intertwined their personalities to bring them to life.
At first I thought it was brotherly banter but going further in I REALIZED IT WAS ROMANCE . that was when I knew I stumbled upon a treasure chest. the romance wasn't in ur face but all the same, id like to say thats what made it all the much more sweeter and precious. I was GIDDY (damn I think im feeling a bubble of happiness just remembering the scenes LMAO). I didn't find out that this was based on a manga until after I finished the show (which btw im planning to read) but they say that the romance definitely is in ur face.
soundtrack was PERFECT. I have the theme song in all my favorite playlist.
there were scenes that were heartbreaking, heartwarming, heartwretching, heartfluttering, and heart confusing.
definitely rewatch worthy and definitely recommend worthy.
I've officially deemed them my comfort characters :D. I hope this helped and I also hope I didn't hype it up too much.

MASTERPIECE!!
I don't know from where to start as I say this is a true MASTERPIECE made by China. The story or plot is completely marvellous. It's been months but I haven't forgotten about this drama. Whenever I m free this drama revolves around me also when I m busy this story stills revolves around me. The actors are chosen perfectly for each and every character. The male leads are completely opposite and attractive. Sean xiao has done his role in the best way . He's been my favourite since then. Also Wang Yibo has played his cold and caring role in indeed best way. He is also my favourite since then. They both look truly compatible for each other. Only if it wasn't for Chinese drama we could have seen more level of bromance. But we can't say their attachment was lacking in anything , cause it also fulfills the audience curiosity and all.If you are here you must watch this. I love this drama.

Really Recommend
The story is somewhat like the manga (Mao Dao Zu Shi) , same actions except no romance which is okay but still considered as a bl. Just saying, half of the drama is the past, trust me you're gonna have to watch it cause the plot make more sense. They still added the WangXian scenes except censored and not really flirting. The acting was really nice, usually, when it came to the action it was exciting to see. I didn't hear the music much but it was nice. Theres not much of a rewatch chance since its 50 episodes but people usually just rewatch the WangXian scenes. Overall, I recommend it.Was this review helpful to you?
Like the best thing i've ever watched and this is on the tippy top of my drama history
Ok first of all, the cast. They are like the best looking cast I have ever seen. Most of them are under 30, and they all look like they're younger. I also love the story bc it's about mysteries, bromance, coming back to life, and like everything. The music- Wu Ji, it's been my favorite song since I watched The Untamed. By now, I probably already memorized 99% of the lyrics and I'm still learning how to play it on the piano. I rewatched this like over 10 times and made a bjyx fanpage on insta. (@bjyxforever) Everything is just perfect. Yeah I also cried like ten times but it was worth it.Was this review helpful to you?
