A unique movie
This movie was pretty good. The story seems to be well thought out. The way small flashbacks that are played out in the earlier parts of the movie are later elaborated and relevant was great. However, I still felt like I was missing important key facts by the end, to which I read a summary of the movie and it all started to click in. It helped me interpret some visuals that I was actually unsure of the meaning of. In the wiki I used, I learned that the subtitles didn't convey the full meaning of what was being said, so I am more understanding of this.
The visuals/CGI is a unique situation in this movie. This was filmed all on a green screen, and I was afraid that the early 2000s CGI was not going to hold well. To my surprise, even though it is nowhere near the CGI of today, it honestly was not too bad. I have seen way worse CGI in modern Toei toku shows. I did not like, however, how the scenes would jump from one filter to another without much reason. At first, the flashbacks were the only ones in greyscale, but then, the present was also in greyscale, but only with our hero. I think the idea that they wanted to show with the filters was the mood of the situation, but honestly, I don't think it worked too well.
The acting was honestly pretty good. Can't say much about it.
Honestly, if you like action movies and experimental films, this is a decent watch and you will like it. It was worth the watch just to see the vision of the director in his CGI experiment, but the story was pretty good as well.

Mecha Live Action
This felt like one live action adaptation of a sci-fi & mecha manga, the plot is all over and only briefly explained in the last minutes of it. The plot is a family broken inside, in the midst of a torn world, torn by wars and environment damage, the politics are more on the communist side, with strong control over the media and nation best wishes narrative. As people get sick by the dead nature consequences, scientists try to come up with solutions, one of them, Azuma, create one substance that by mistake brings dead people to life, they are called Neo-Humans, some of them gather to fight against the humans whom tried to get ride of them. Casshern is a Neo-Human.
The photography is chaotic, going from dark, game(ish) to strong red, yellow etc and the cgi is all over, as they try to show us the war machines, the surviving society & the contaminated nature. The characters has the anime aesthetics with colorful hair and quirky clothes. The editing and direction are very lacking, we have very little talking going on and the mindset is hardly perceived and only once again in the last minutes of it. It's hard to actually care for them if the edit goes from here and there in a chaotic order, add to this the extremely changes in the background cgi and the result is not the best. The ost is good and feel fit to the scenes.
Even tho the many bad points, once you start watching you just feels like keep watching, it's interesting enough, it has some action and mecha scenes with fair charisma and the sci-fi content is also good enough.

The first look in the film was setting on Cyberpunk/Streampunk city middle of 2050 / Post-WW3 where the world fill with some dead Diseases, increase population and more. Which one i look that the setting was really like using a well graphic and choreography in the film.
The film also starts about what mean of war and Consequences, Discrimination, class conflict, political greed and also cruelty of human which this film has lot of enjoyable theme in here.
What the most i like about this version is about human drama that contain of Their Mature, Emotions and their value. And also some symbolism in here is about Christian alegory about life, death and rebirth with also theme of Genesis in the end of the story. The MC Tetsuya/Casshern is sound like a Jesus figure that he learn about what mean becoming human and the character was like well-devoloped and way to go on look.
The Visual and action sequences maybe has some a problem in here that some here some like a Old-fashioned anime which these decisions was so confusing to me to watch it.
But overall, it still a better look and the way of the film in here much more better that 1970's Anime.
Verdict:
Kazuaki Kiriya's Casshern explore about war and some human dramas that contain of best spicy for the film. The action and visual may be confusing to look, but overall this version is one of Tatsunoko's most Ambitious dark hero's film.
