Both of these Chinese palatial historicals have gorgeous costumes, backgrounds, and sound tracks. More importantly though, the female leads in both are clever and multifaceted, and most of the characters are well-acted. The Legend of Zhen Huan is the darker and grittier drama of the two, but Startling By Each Step is just as serious, in it's own (more romantic) way.

Time travel in both. Both get men to fall in love with her. Main guy in beginning doesn’t like main girl.

Both dramas are set in the Qing Dynasty and adress the hardships and struggles of the palace life faced by women in that time period. Scarlet Heart is a time travel drama set in the reign of Kang Xi and we see Yongzheng rise to the throne. Ruyi is a harem drama set in the reign of Qianlong, son of emperor Yongzheng.

Both female lead got injured seriously went back in time in someone else's body n found their true love.

Comedic film of a fusion-historical genre. Cute lover boy Heo Saek becomes Joseon's first male gisaeng and a flower-like woman named Hae Won who thinks ahead of her time, search for true love together.

Both dramas are set during Kanxi's ruling. The fourth prince ascends to the throne through scheming his way. Internal fights between the princes.

Both excellent historical drama. I think Nirvana might be even better. It is more political intrigue but made very interesting. I love the strong female characters in Nirvana.

Both have unforgettable characters and amazing plot. Soulful and riveting. I cried after both. After finishing Song of the Cloud, I was so emotionally affected by one character that I was heartsick for two weeks.

I bet u guy will like this drama. Funny, romantic, history and sad ending.

Splash Splash Love is like the short version of Scarlet Heart (minus the gender-bendering), a condensed version of Scarlet Heart minus all the agony and politics. SSL is also more light-hearted, less serious and focuses more on the romance compare to Scarlet Heart. If you want to see some cute and comical time traveling, SSL is for you. If you want to see some politics, more character developments, as well as more interactions with side characters, you can watch Scarlet Heart but bring some tissues with you! Both modern female leads time travels to the past with some knowledge of history but SSL involves Korean History whereas Scarlet Heart involves Chinese History.

Both include modern person, time travelling back to the ancient times, however this dynasty is much closer to modern times.
