The story was very interesting. There wasn't an episode that made me bored. It was also interesting to see the changes they've made compared to original historical events. It was easy to follow, and major events were still pretty accurate.
I liked one on one duel fights. They looked quiet real and fancy at the same time. This show also had more then few tear jerking scenes for me. But they were totally worth it.
Overall, I've had some life learning experiences while watching this drama. And I don't regret watching it at all.

So much more than my expectations! The storyline required a large cast of young male actors in either leading or supporting roles...and what a cast! At least 4 of the top Chinese martial arts actors are included. The script is well written and keeps you at the edge of your seat...you'll be tempted to do a marathon through all 40+ episodes. There's romance (4 and counting) storylines, there's action, there's tears, politics, and amazing battle scenes. The costumes are some of the most detailed and beautiful that I've ever seen in historical dramas. Love it!

Worth to rewatch

I watched many versions related to Yang family in movies, but this is the best one I could say
Performance, Actors, actions scenes, customs in the movies are invested carefully and the content is also the same in the history.
Compared to other, this version is much more highly invested and great performance, so I rated as the highest score.
I watched it 15 years ago and now I rewatched for a few times, it is still interesting and never get bored, still the same feeling for the first time

I hope there will be the version of after generation of Yang made my this directors and these actors.

A must-watch, for sure.

Okay, let's talk about this one. First of all, I began watching this drama with no expectations. But hell, I was so freaking surprised because it is a really good surprise. So much better than many historical dramas that are made nowadays, for real ! The production is really good for a 2006's drama, even if yeah, sometimes you have some flashy colors/lights that are a little annoying because it hurts the eyes and you have some "too easy" transition, but still, it's a 2006's drama and the production is way better than many today's dramas, that's so amazing.

The story is just awesome and you'll be yelling, crying, trying to talk to the characters behind your screen, for real. That's so rare that I do that for a drama and I did for each episode while watching this one... Like, it's like you're really watching someone's else life and you're so in it like you almost forget that it's just a drama (even if yeah, it's inspired by real facts but still, it's really amazing how I was into the story, the characters and so on).

The OST is really good and each music is played in the perfect moment, at the perfect second. The emotions and the feelings are so well-played by every actors. I really liked every characters, and I really wanted to kill myself the villains... The actors were so good that it was really like watching real lives. I don't know how to explain better, but just try it and you'll know for sure !

For this one I put a rewatch value because yes, that's so rare from me but I'll rewatch it for sure. I don't want to leave these characters, to forget them. It's like, you're emotionnaly attached to every character and you just want to spend more times with them. The one I liked the most was obviously Yang Qi Lang... He was so pure but at the same time so strong. He was betrayed by so many people but he never lost hope or trust. I freaking love him.

This drama is really a must-watch, you'll not regret it.

Honestly, it's worth to watch

The series beautifully showcases the strong family bond within the Yang household, whose members are all upright, loyal, and courageous. There were some great fight scenes, political drama, cute family moments, and sweet romances. They did a good job of bringing the story together despite having so many different elements and main characters.

Yang Yan Si (7th brother) was my favourite of the Yang brothers. He’s funny, charming, and easygoing as the second-youngest child in the family. I think his ending is the saddest.

Yang Yan Zhao (6th brother) started getting annoying towards the end of the series, especially after they introduced that snake, Pang Ying. I liked his romance with Princess Chai—they were cute together. So I don’t understand why it took him so long to be with Princess Chai when he claimed he loved her and that nothing could change that so early on. Honestly, it pissed me off that he still had a bit of a soft spot for Pang Ying, who was evil incarnate. He even held her (as she lay dying) while Princess Chai was bleeding out in front of him. Like, WTF. Pang Ying deserved her demise.

I think Guan Hong had better chemistry with Ye Lu Xie, but I guess it’s too bad he’s the enemy. So, her romance with Yang Yan De (5th brother) felt kinda meh and not that exciting. And after tragedy befalls the Yang family, 5th brother develops extreme survivor’s guilt. The dude grieves so badly that he decides to become a monk, leaving behind both his family and his wife… They gave Guan Hong such a tragic love life.

Yang Han Hui (4th brother) was the most interesting character because of his backstory. His relationship with Miss Luo was sweet. This guy has a knack for losing his identity/memories… I don’t understand his ending because he knows, deep inside, that he has a wife/lover but he can’t remember who she is. Then he goes to the capital, but the series never shows him reuniting with his family.

Yang Ba Mai (8th sister) was amazing. She’s cute, lovable, and expresses herself well. The actress did a great job.

I did skip through some of the long dialogue-heavy parts, but I’d still give this an overall 8/10. The actors all did a great job, and the storyline was entertaining, though I do feel the last episode was a bit confusing. I’d recommend this if you like historical dramas with wuxia and some palace intrigue.

It’s fun and all at the start, but towards the end… after episode 39… shit gets real depressing.
(You might need some tissues.)

I was blown away with this series! It was easy to follow and themain events were still pretty accurate to actual history events. I felt that this was an interesting remake of some of the older dramas of the same family. One of the brilliant things about this drama is they managed to get some of the top actors to either be leads or supporting actors and what a cast that was put together. I was so happy that so many of my favourite actors were all on the one big screen.
The acting was top notch and the story had kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. I just loved it!

Story: The plot wasn't intricate, and pretty much straight forward. This drama is based on the Legend of the Yang Generals, which is based on true stories (I believe). Out of all General Yang Ye's sons, his 6th son (in the legends) portrayed by Hu Ge is the most intelligent and follow his father's foot steps to protect and serve the Song Dynasty. The Yang family will face several antagonists throughout the drama.

The storyline can get somewhat "annoying" with all the love triangles, there are many love storylines in here and it's too interwoven at times, and too "convenient" that some of our brothers fall in love with the same girl their nemises is in love with.  Towards the end of the drama, I was sick of 6th son love drama, on how the girl he was friends with went psycho. I skipped past most of the scenes with her in it, it was too much for me. However, some of the love scenes are quite cute. I was fond of Peter Ho and Ceciliu Liu's roles, as well the General Yang and his wife.  If you like a drama with lots of intense emotions, this one will suck you in. Every scene that involved 4th son w/ his parents had me on verge of crying.

Acting: This drama has a superb cast. It's not as big as the 1980's version made by TVB (which featured TONS of TVB actors at the time), but it's pretty decent. I thought the 1,2,3 sons and their wives were pretty plain and not memorable. 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th sons are played by Peter Ho,  Chen Long, Hu Ge and Eddie Peng, excellent cast for the younger bros. Their little sister, played Zhao Zi Cun is just adorable!! She's probably one my favorite characters in this drama.

The actors that portray General Yang and his wife take the cake on this drama. You would think Hu Ge is the main actor in here, but nope. Those two did a fantastic job of their parents. Dad is strict, stoic, and often torn between family and state affairs. Mom is strong and the backbone to the family. Such a awesome couple.

Overall, it's a pretty good drama. Don't expect too many happy endings because in the legends and in history, there were no happy endings.
