Daikichi is a seventy-year-old who lives on a small island; since his wife died, he spends his days with the cat Tama and childhood friends, including Iwao. Daikichi's son, Tsuyoshi, lives in Tokyo and worries about the lonely life of the man on the island, but Daikichi instead feels calm. Things change when a close friend of his goes missing, and Daikichi begins to worry about his physical condition. Her daily life, too, begins to change.
