absolutely underrated!

I'm halfway through this drama and it definitely has me wanting to see more and more.
I don't understand why people that have actually watch this drama would give it low ratings.
I'm so glad that I read at least one rating that had good things to say about this amazing drama!!

There is everything you want in a drama. I've had a hard time shutting off at night, I always have to watch one more episode. That's the kind of drama that deserves a top rating. Even if I don't understand what's happening at times, it still has you wanting for more and more.

Alice, Oh Alice This is not a review but a commentary.

In Korean Dramas, and also noticeable in Chinese dramas, where intimate touches of hands and body contact between male and female are a taboo and they made it a BIG deal and the kissing are rarely encouraged and almost stilted. Its great they have kept the highbrow on morality, and sex is nothing to be sneezed at. I should be paying my deep respect for playing the big brother.

Alice is a drama with very interesting storyline with complex plots, and could have been very entertaining. BUT there are a couple of nagging issues that made couldn't make me like it more than 2 stars. One glaring issue I am sure a lot of viewers agree and that is the issue of incest. No matter how hard the team of three writers try they couldn't explain successfully the incest issue. Time-travelling and crossing the the multi-dimensional universe can't changed anything, at the end of the day they are still mother and son. Nothing will altered that fact.

I wonder what were the writers and the director thinking when they told this story? INCEST is not a taboo and rising and touching is? IF this is what Korean's social moires and culture allows, then it shows that they Psyche of the Korean is deeply disturbing and extremely unsettling. I am sure it's not. I am sure the production house are trying to push the boundaries and show how open they are, but they have stepped into a territory that is not only a cultural taboo but also against biological science no go territory.

This series just simply disturbing and makes me sick in the stomach, and to mention, shocking!

Three writers and I am sure three great brains in drama telling couldn't see the pitfall they walked right into when they dug all on their own is amazing. This is even more disturbing. I would never fall in love with anyone who looks exactly like my mother, no matter how beautiful she is, it's just that I do not suffer from Oedipus complex.

That’s it for me on episode 9!

Like most of the veiwers this kdrama started very promising, I can even handle the far fetched time travelling, scientific bits etc. what I couldn’t take any more was coming to the conclusion on episode 9 that ‘mother’ and ‘son’ heading towards becoming lovers🤮! This was confirmed after reading some of the reviews, I would have continued watching it even knowing the ending as long as it’s not mother and son as lovers! It’s making me sick to the stomach just thinking of it, regardless of what time span serious, how can any normal guy marries someone who looks exactly like his dead mother or a mother marrying someone who could be her son?I wish more thought was out into the romance storyline before it was finalised as this would have been an enjoyable show.

Too Disappointing

Please tell me where and why you agree and disagree with me after reading this review.
Suggestions are welcomed.

BE CAUTIOUS, SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Getting to the drama~
I have actually dropped it , so I would recommend you to go through all the spoilers content in other reviews as well for an idea for the story and if you think you like it, just watch it since everybody has a different taste.

Story: 3.0
So, in this, there isn't accidental travelling to the past or future (quite unique, eh?).
The first to episode were quite interesting so I gave it a shot anyways, I thought it would be interesting but the story couldn't keep the viewers interested till the end, it started to become monotonous and very confusing. So they're messing up with Physics' Quantum Theory, using the multiverse theory of time travel and destroying the parallel universe they're travelling to.
Oh please, NO!! It's logical in the starting but it's all getting so so so messed up by the end. THE BOOK OF PROPHECY, what's it? Please, you're all scientists researching various things and suddenly you're all behind the so called prophecy, superstitious thing. It shouldn't be called a sci-fi drama with that book of prophecy in it, such dramas are called FANTASY DRAMAS.
They all seem too intelligent, smart and clever in the start but by the end you'll realise they're just humans overcome with emotions trying to kill their own past selves, by travelling in the future. My God, it's such a stupid thing.
They are just trying to the Prophecy by tracking down the current owners. My dears, go back to the past, find the weakest owner and get it if you're so desperate.
So, for me it's just a non-sense drama using physics and some machines and gadgets as a base to call itself a sci-fi.
And the most irritating thing is that the main leads (Professor and Detective) seem to fall for each other from episode 5 or 6.
I was like WHYY? You people are scientists, right? Ever heard of a term called consanguinity, well that's for siblings, I don't what would happen if you basically start to date your mother's past self, so it's just your mother. She's your mother's past self, how can you just do this?? It's too annoying.

Acting/Cast: 9.5
Just a waste of talent......

Music: 5.0
I basically hate the romantic music, anything else is alright!

Rewatch Value: 1.0
Nope, there's no way you would like to rewatch it. Atleast I wouldn't!

Overall:3.0
Too disappointed

Hope it wasn't boring.
Sorry for all the sarcasms and all if you feel offended but that's my honest opinion.
Lots of love <3

JUST DONT!!!

If you came here looking for some fun time travel romantic drama well then prepare yourself for disappointment. Where do i even start. The story makes absolutely zero sense. It had so much potential but somehow they managed to f this up. So many plot holes like each episode will make you think that you should have watched something else. If you want to watch this for the cast i would suggest dont cause its not like it has lee min ho or something. At times i even wondered if incest is one of the plot twists and if it had been it would have certainly been better than what they have done. ( I still dont know if it's there or not cause I'm writing this after finishing the 13 th episode). Its one of those dramas, you watch the first episode and even if you skip to the last two three episodes you'll still understand it. If u think that you have nothing to watch and might as well kill your time with this then then i would say that no one is that bored or jobless. Sleep instead.

An enjoyable dissapointment

I won't make this review long because I would basically be repeating what everyone and their mother commented.
if you have 16 hours to kill then go ahead and watch this drama, otherwise don't bother. especially if you care a lot about the plot, because it feels like a 15-year-old drafted this story after watching some youtube videos on time travel (and still not understanding anything). the ending was one of the worst kdrama endings I've ever witnessed among all 40 or so dramas that I've watched so far. so many plotholes and loose ends. weird incest romance thing. so goddamn unfair to the characters who went through so much and it all felt useless at the end, especially min hyuk and do yeon. they didn't deserve such a dissatisfying end, ugh. the only thing that kept me going was the actors. it truly felt like a waste of an amazing cast and a promising premise. sigh... but ill admit guiltily that i still found it entertaining to watch. make what you will of my review.

What the F*** did I watch?

***WORD OF WARNING: ALL THE SPOILERS, BEWARE!!***

As a Sci-fi Lover, I was excited for an awesome time-travel/dimension-travel drama. Initially, it looked like it had all the makings of an exciting drama. The added element of a main character was someone with Alexithymia and how he developed that and his powers due to his mother's time-travel while he was in the womb was also an interesting concept. I was expecting a Fringe-like vibe, which was there in the beginning.

Then the whole thing went off the rails. At first, I thought it was time travel with paradoxes having to be prevented, which then became time travel with no paradox as a new reality was created. At least that was what I thought happened. At one point it fell like parallel dimensions where ppl came to experience what they lost in their universe, with time travel. It was like the writer could not keep track of the rules for how time travel worked and kept changing it as more characters and elements were added to the story. Sometimes, it felt like they retconned something, that that was stated as fact in the previous episode, in the very next one. The whole thing made me want to throw my laptop at a wall!!

Don't even get me started on the Old Jin Gyeom being the villain and killing him before he killed the mother was the solution to all their problems and erasure of time-travel agency. I am so turned around by what the hell happened, especially from episode 12 onwards. Did they travel back in time to different dimensions or their own? Did they change their own past? Also if the time travel agency disappeared which world did it disappear in? Did it just exist in one world? Also if it was erased, then how do Yoon Tae Yi and Park Jin Gyum exist, are both they were both born when they did because their mom's time travelled? Also even if we ignore Tae Yi's situation and assume she was made with a different mom in place of her time-traveling mom, if there is no time travel she wouldn't go back in time to have Jin Gyum in the past. So how is he there?? It would make more sense for her to meet Min Hyuk and maybe have a Jin Gyum in the future.

Also, how did Old Jun Gyeom go evil/crazy? His mother's death made him become a cop, was it the realization that he was the killer that made him lose his mind? Did he encourage the start of the agency to save his mom? Should he have unalived himself to prevent her death? Also wtf she killed herself?? Is that what happened originally or was it just what happened in whatever universe they are currently in?

Also confused about how both of them are the same, if she was the result of a time traveller becoming her mom, was it the same for the original? Also if Tae Yi invented time travel and her partner went on to become the pseudo-head of it, why was the mom version of her just an agent? Why was she not in charge? Or was it yet another Tae Yi who invented it?

Also, how was the tattoo appearing on her?? what is the explanation behind that? This is supposed to be Sci-fi, not fantasy and she is not the chosen one. And how in the world is she having memories of the mom?? Or did I just understand that wrong? This is not like Olivia from Fringe having Alt-Olivia's memories, there she is drugged w/ Cortexiphan as a child and then again as an adult causing the bleed-through of memories. Where is Alice's version of Cortexiphan for Tae Yi or some other phenomenon to explain the bleed-through? Especially because they are not near each other or anything when the memories come to Tae Yi.

Too many plot holes and no proper answers. This is not even like the open endings where you can just picture your version of how it ended or where it makes you consider different possibilities. This is more of the brain aneurysm-inducing confusion trying to figure out what the f*** just happened.

Also, what's with the serious incest that was happening? I mean his fascination with a woman who looked like his mother is one thing, but the weird sexual/ motherly vibes their relationship gave at different points was just plain creepy. I don't care that she was an alternate-universe version of his mom. It's still a person, who has the same freaking DNA as her. It would be just as creepy if he was into his mother's identical twin sister who was raised separately. I'm not sure why they needed romance, they could have learned about the mother-son thing, and it would have been emotional and beautiful. This came off weird and creepy and trying too hard. Also, what was the point of Kim Do Yeon?? Was she just there to highlight that the only person Jin Gyum would fall in love with would be his mother look alike, who at times treated him like her son? Too much Oedipus complex for my taste, while trying to justify that it is not Oedipus cause she is not actually, his mother.

Despite all my hate for the plot, the acting was great, so was the OST. Kim Hee Sun and Joo Won both showed such emotional range and they portrayed them well. Overall, despite this the confusion I had to endure almost made me drop this, but I stayed true hoping I could understand something, anything.

When I first started Alice, I thought it would be unique, a trip to Wonderland. In a way it delivers. Alice drops you down the rabbit hole to Confuseland making you wish you could erase the part of your brain where it will now forever take up space as the most convoluted, nonsensical plot you had the misfortune of seeing. I don't think I have even read fanfiction that was the level of hell this plot was made on.

But despite this, if you still want a drama that is a Brain F*** that leaves you so turned around you don't know up from down and down and Wonderland from Outland, then this is the drama for you.

For those like a time travel theme drama, I wish goodluck with this one because it's really WORST drama. The starting of this drama was really good I think but then it's getting complicated that really hard to understand. I still don't know why this drama called Alice at the first place meanwhile the main story is not really about that organisation. I don't want to talk about the storyline since I can't catch up with the parallel universe or whatsoever universe. The ending also such a meh because how can they just end like that? There are still many questions that still not being solve. Don't tell me that second season is coming because I not gonna waste my time watching this.

The good one about this drama is the OST... I'm totally enjoy the OST especially the part one by yuju (gfriend). The main lead also good but got waste with the weird storyline.

Almost a Masterpiece

This is probably a very unpopular opinion, but I absolutely loved this drama. I believe, if it wasn't for the almost "confusing cool-down" of the last two episodes that were, I admit, a little disappointing, I would be calling this a masterpiece. A flawless masterpiece. But my excitement for the last two episodes did admittedly go down a notch as I was getting a little too confused with the story (which to be honest, was expected, since this is time-travel related, and I nearly always struggle with this trope).

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the last two episodes, but like I said, notably less than the previous fourteen. I guess it's not just about the "journey" of a drama, the ending is just as important (for me, anyways). The first fourteen were a masterpiece. A brilliant story, greatly acted with an awesome cast, an absolutely stunning OST (perhaps the tiniest bit overplayed, but that's just nit-picking, honestly), with also great production value, SFX, editing, cinematography and directing.

I thought the chemistry with all cast members was fantastic, and the characters were all well-written and dynamic. The plot twists were so unpredictable and legitimately shocked me, alongside some other great things such as bromance and the fact that the story would always make you guess when you weren't watching.

this is not a watch for everyone...

I am a sci-fic sucker but i don't think this one's magic is not for me... It's not worth the watch. It felt like i just finished it for the need to know what happened to jingyeom and his mother's written prophecy. I end up finishing it even though and, IT STILL LEFT ME TOO MANY QUERIES.

Maybe because (probably) the main reason is that the story's concept of time traveling is not established very well. The foundation of the concept is not well-introduced. Also, you can see many flaws in the time-traveling concept. It is very lousy written. Fr! I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS ABOUT HOWS AND WHO!

The last 30 minutes ruined the entire show

Likes
1. The first half was so interesting and intriguing. I loved the twists at every last scene. But story got so confusing esp episode 14 that i had to stop watching coz it was a big WTH just happened??
2. The final reveal of who the Teacher was unexpected and i loved the main conflict of killing the son or the mother. It's like chicken and egg dilemma.
3. Minhyuk 🥰🥰🥰 He shined in every scene.
4. I dont know if Park Sun Young is selfish or selfless. I really liked her more than Yoon Tae Yi who is supposed to be a professor but doesn't have a lot of common sense.

Dislikes
1. The unnecessary romantic vibes between Jin Gyeom and Taeyi grossed me out but i kept on watching hoping there is a valid resolution to this. And up until episode 14 i thought the show finally put a stop at it. Had i known this was where the show was really going i would have stopped watching earlier on.
2. The time travel rules kept changing to suit the story when it didn't make sense. I already gave the show a pass on a lot of things. To insist the people are different but later say the memories are merging and theyre the same person is unfair.
3. Again the ending didn't make sense.

Rating: 7.5/10 (i would have given this an 8 despite the flaws until i saw the ending which made zero sense 😵)
