During the Korean War in the 1950s, Dong-man's family is caught in conflict as his father's North Korean partisan uncle and his mother's South Korean soldier uncle's deaths cause tension between the grandmothers. Dong-man's accidental revelation leads to his father's arrest, and many partisans die.
