Facilitating reunions with lost loved ones.
"Wonderland" boasts a fascinating premise: a virtual world facilitating reunions with lost loved ones. It's the first film I've seen by director Kim Tae-Yong, whose filmography leans towards lower-rated projects.
While the concept is undeniably intriguing, the execution falters. The screenplay feels messy, and the direction lacks polish. This is especially disappointing considering the talented cast, including Bae Suzy and Park Bo-gum. Their performances elevate the material, but they can't quite salvage the film's shortcomings.
Here's the verdict:
"Wonderland" is a mixed bag. The strong central idea is overshadowed by messy pacing and direction. However, the stellar cast delivers, making it a watchable experience for those curious about the sci-fi romance angle.
Recommendation:
Yes I recommend it with 7/10 rating.

great movie about AI
I find the advancements in Artificial Intelligence both fascinating and concerning, so i enjoyed watching this film. Wonderland beautifully captures the complex interplay between AI and human emotions, basically humans’ need for genuine connection and belonging.I found Wonderland so touching, and dramatic and times. i loved the cast and l the acting was good… BUT, I found the storytelling a bit confusing, which might be due to the poor translation (and sometimes lack of translation) of complex words. i think I would enjoy it more as a book rather than as a movie.

Wonderland" - A Captivating Journey through Loss and Connection
Pros and cons: "Wonderland" is an amazing Korean movie drama that explores the idea of reconnecting with loved ones after they have passed away. The film presents a unique and creative way to deal with loss and grief, showing how technology can help people stay connected with those they've lost. The story is both imaginative and emotional, highlighting the challenges and benefits of this advanced system. The cast does an outstanding job, bringing their characters to life and making the audience feel deeply for them. The scenes where characters interact with their deceased loved ones are particularly touching and powerful. However, the movie has one main flaw. The beginning is quite confusing because it jumps straight into the characters' lives without explaining the system that allows them to communicate with the deceased. This makes it hard to follow the plot until about halfway through. A clearer introduction to the system at the start would have made the movie much easier to understand. , "Wonderland" is a touching and creative movie with a unique concept and a great cast. Although it starts off confusing, it delivers a powerful and emotional experience that stays with you after watching it.

good watch
It was quite a good movie. Future possibilities of AI portrayed in a simple story, nothing too much.... The actors are all well known and they did their role justice, music was good specially as it was sung by the cast members, the artificial effects also didn't seem over the top. Overall it was a pleasant, simple but quite emotional film, so I don't see the reason for a low rating. Yes tbh it would've been good if it was made into a series because that would give the story much depth which it needs. As the movie shows the lives of people who were receiving the service but didn't really show the full story of the characters, just fragments which is why we couldn't really perceive their feelings, many things were left unexplained ......Was this review helpful to you?

Stories missed the mark
Dec 2024A quite poignant watch at times, which made me wonder what it might be like if this were ever possible. I'm honestly not sure it would be a good thing at all, especially after some of this film.
Memories can sometimes focus on the solely positive aspects of those we love and don'thave physically with us anymore. AI 'copies' would perhaps be nearer the wished for than reality.
The various stories of the diverse characters in this are quite different, with hidden elements. Not all the characters are likeable, the pace is slow and it isn't jolly, that's for sure.
It's hard to review really, without giving plot lines away, so I'll just say that I found it a little hard going at times and confusing at others. It was definitely held together by the excellent cast.
Bit disappointed overall, tbh, but I always think others should give stuff a go, as different strokes for different folks.

Years wasted on this movie for this disappointing result
It’s an alright but confusing movie. If only they properly explained about wonderland services and their characters, it would be easier to understand what’s going in on the plot. It’s hard to know which characters are real or virtual in some scenes like with Gong Yoo. I thought he was virtual, but then he was real, and then back to being virtual? It was difficult to tell who was real or not.
Tang Wei arc is beautifully well-written; however, Suzy & Bogum arc is good but ends abruptly, leaving questions about what happened to their relationship. The same goes for other arcs; most of them are undeveloped and have plot holes.
Suzy and Bogum kind of carried this movie because their chemistry caught everyone's attention. The movie is a huge letdown, but their acting and the cast saved it. Honestly what a waste of years on this project for it to end up like this.

A Beautiful Mess: Wonderland Lacks Depth and Direction
I just finished watching Wonderland and honestly, it left me with more confusion than closure. Visually, it’s well done, but the logic and emotional flow? All over the place. Here are my main thoughts:• I understood a little bit about the Chinese character, Bai Li, since she had a daughter- but even that didn't make a lot of sense. She created an Al version of herself so her daughter wouldn't know she was dead. It's a sad and emotional idea, but it wasn't really explored deeply or logically.
•The grandma and her grandson storyline made zero sense. How was she able to send money to an AI? Why was the AI grandson selfish, demanding, and materialistic? Isn't AI supposed to reflect the real person, not exaggerate flaws that may not have existed?
•The couple's story (Suzy & Park Bo-gum) honestly irritated me. Suzy’s character created an AI version of her boyfriend while he was still alive but in a coma—which should be completely illegal. I get why someone would want comfort in grief, but this man wasn't even dead. And then when he wakes up, she's distant and even rude to him for no clear reason. What exactly was she mad about?
•There’s no real world-building or backstory. We don’t know how this AI service came to be, who’s behind it, or how society even allowed this to happen. And then, out of nowhere, they throw in a similar service for pets in the final scene? That was just bizarre.
•Kim Shin’s role was vague. his story was under developed.
In the end, the movie tried to be emotionally deep and philosophical, but it skipped the work needed to earn those feelings. If this had been a drama series instead of a film, maybe the plotlines would’ve had room to breathe and actually make sense.

too much going on for it just to be a film
i'm going to keep it sweet and short and say that this film had a mini series potential. there were a lot of things that i wish we would've seen. i feel like we got a half-baked conclusion for all the main story lines. yes, wonderland helped all of them to move on, but i really need them to find their true happiness outside of AI bubble. even the main couple's (TY and JI) story feels incomplete.overall the concept of portraying AI as an device to deal with grieving/ reconnecting was interesting. writers would've gone more in dept with the wonderland, if it was a series. they could only portray the positive side of AI in the film , but i was curious about the negative side. fake remains fake in the end.
here is the list of scenes i wish that we would've seen
- how did wonderland's developers come up with an idea?
- did TY and JI ended up together?
- how is BL's family dealing with her death?
- HM's funeral (this grandma was the most precious character in the whole film)
one thing that bothered me personally was the amount of cameos. it was hard to focus on the film since it's filled with a lot of well known actors

Should focus on 1 story
The concept is interesting and the actors are all great, but this movie should have 1 story. The issue with Wonderland is trying to present too many stories instead of focusing on one.I particularly only cared about the couple story. The idea of Tae Joo waking up and Jeongin having to deal with the not so perfect reality while not wanting to let go of Wonderland Tae Joo was the best part of the movie. Two hours developing that story would make the movie so much better. But I would understand the movie also focusing only on the mom/daughter/grandmother story. That version could also feature a bit of the Wonderland employees, maybe just not trying to pull their family into the story too.
The other small Wonderland plots only waste time and don’t give us anything special.

Emotional movie
I really enjoyed this movie and I cried after a long time. What's nice is that it's not just korean but a mixture of stories and languages. I think it was told beautifully. I would definitely give this movie a try and watch it to appreciate your loved ones. we don't realise that when they're there, we should appreciate them and spend the most time with them we can to make amazing memories filled with fun and happiness and laughter. watch the trailer first as its a bit confusing but then you understandWas this review helpful to you?

THIS IS THE BEST KOREAN MOVIE I HAVE EVER WATCHED!
This is my first time leaving a review. I'm not really the type of person who makes reviews after watching a drama, but this one is exceptional. ✨First, I want to express my gratitude to everyone involved in making this film-the actors, the crew, the staff, and the director. Your work has created something truly wonderful. (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)
I was particularly struck by Gong Yoo's appearance. I missed seeing him in a drama, and his performance was a welcome return. 🌹
Choi Woo Shik also impressed me greatly. I've been a fan since "The Witch," and his talent continues to shine. 💕
Park Bo Gum, with his mesmerizing puppy eyes🥺, was another highlight. His performance captivated me and added so much to the drama.🌼✨
Bae Suzy, the nation's first love, once again proved her incredible acting skills. Her visuals and performance were stunning. She's always been my favorite actress. ❣🤗
The dynamic between Park Bo-gum and Suzy was a major strength of the film. Their on-screen partnership felt natural and compelling, making me wish for more projects featuring them together in the future. 🤞
The actors brought their characters to life beautifully, and the storyline was deeply engaging. It explores the fascinating and somewhat unsettling concept of AI, highlighting how we might cling to the memory of loved ones even after they are gone.
I understand the desire to hold on to memories, even if they're not real. It makes me reflect on my own loved ones. Life teaches us to let go because holding on can lead to more pain.
Yet, I believe we will reunite with those we've lost in Heaven, as promised by God. By believing, repenting, and accepting Him as our Lord & Savior, we find hope through faith and grace. 🤍✨
Tang Wei's performance was especially moving. The airport scene was heartbreaking and powerful. The realization of being gone and accepting it was portrayed with such depth. 😞
The young girl's longing for her mother was profoundly touching. Her innocence and hope broke my heart. 💔
I highly recommend this film for its emotional depth and the standout performances of the actors. It's a moving experience that will leave a lasting impression. 💝🥺
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this masterpiece. 💓🥰☺
