(❛◡˂̵ ̑̑✧) time travelling fruit

another time traveling drama from our time travelling princess, zhao lu si! female lead falls into the world of her own written story as the villian, having supposed to die off early but tries to navigate her own plot to avoid getting killed. everything is reversed where women have the most power, taking jabs at how silly our modern values of gender & equality are. nothing felt too "draggy" and its a really cute drama. the main leads (and the entire cast for that matter) are adorable and their chemistry is really natural! ( •͈ 𓎺 •͈ )

the comedy might not be for everybody and even though the plot is nothing exceptional, its a refreshing and fun watch which makes it worth a try! just don't take this one too seriously (because the drama doesn't even take itself seriously,,) if you're in for a nonsensical, light-hearted romcom, then i would recommend this show.

This is certainly a toast! The chemistry’s between main leads are just so adoring... bickering session is on another level, which is a high bar. Yes, Ryan and Lusi is on-point portraying the romance between Han Shuo and Qian Qian love story. The classic style is still there to spice up the whole wondering world of wuxia.
All the supporting cast has genuine vibes which creates catchy phrases and puts your giggles on-the-go.
Fun and adoring... Costumes are great, very light and satisfactory. But I can’t help to wonder, what if it was set with more vibrant color and regal accessories. You know, the whole magnitude of Chinese wuxia wardrobe and set design. Also, in-depth dialogue since imaginatively Qian Qian came from the future.
Overall, I’ll rewatched it again in any given day. I’m already addicted with their visuals and sweetness.
Looking forward for Ryan acting in next project, that kid still got lots in shop to show... more brooding perhaps please ???

Absolutely amazing

As someone who isn’t really a fan of historical c dramas cz they kinda bore me I was reluctant but so glad I gave it a go cz it was so worth it.
The actors as expected of Lusi and Ding Yuxi were absolutely amazing and I dt think anyone could hv done it better. The plot was sooo nice perf amount of sweet moments and I was rarely disappointed.
I’m still til now rewatching few eps as they were my fav and I hv only ofc few complaints with the how Qian Qian first liked the teacher dude that really irritated me as Han Shuo continuously tried to care for her and be nice although at the beginning he seemed a bit of a cruel character him on the inside was quite literally the sweetest he has such a nice personality and I was so annoyed that she didn’t realise that and ofc she was trying to get out of the story so wanted to finish the plot but she didn’t realise that by pushing him to Chu Chu when he didn’t even care Abt her hurt him and I really wish she saw that earlier.
Other than that it was absolutely amazing and really hope u guyz enjoy❤️❤️

Y'all. Y'ALL. Sound the alarms. Let's just take a moment. 2020 Chinese dramas really are it. This is the first Chinese Historical drama I've watched and finished. This is the first drama I watched while it came out and finished and followed it to the end. This was the first Chinese drama in a long time that I didn't skip through any parts of it. This is the best Chinese drama I've watched since A Love So Beautiful. This was a revolutionary drama. So let me take some time to talk about it.

Story:
This is the first drama in a long time to hook me straight from the beginning. No "well, you just have to be patient and get through the first couple episodes and then it gets real good". No. It's instantly a drama you want to binge. So it was dreadful waiting for the episodes to come out and get subbed. I would check every day and be so excited to see new additions. I can't tell you how low my expectations for Chinese dramas have been for a while now. This completely flipped everything and now future Chinese dramas and dramas in general need to watch out because I've been reenergized and have had a taste of the best. No longer will I tolerate bad.
Now the ending. This is the best ending to a drama I've seen in a long time. It ended perfectly and left me longing for nothing. Well I'll always be longing for something after a drama ends but this didn't make me long unnecessarily. Not once did this drama feel draggy or boring. Not once. I'm so happy with it.

Acting:
Oh my the acting. Let's talk about the lead first. Zhou Lu Si is one of my favorite Chinese actresses but she delivered everything and more than I expected from her. This is definitely her best work and nothing felt awkward. Through this drama I've discovered a great young actor to look out for in the future: Ryan Ding. He has so much potential and fits into his characters so well. Not once did he fall short to Zhou Lu Si's performance or vice versa. I was extremely happy with their acting. Don't even get me started on their wonderful chemistry.
Now let's get into the supporting characters: my favorite. The casting director must have the eyes of God for they picked the best out there. Every—and I mean every—supporting character I saw in this show were never overshadowed by the leads. It was almost like they lived and breathed their characters. I credit them for the reason this show was never boring to watch. They performed spectacularly. The best supporting cast I've seen in any drama. Ever. I can't properly portray how impressed and entertained I was by them.

Overall, this drama never slowed down and kept a wonderful pace. It was a smooth watch and something you wanted to keep watching after the episode ended. I can't find a flaw. I am extremely impressed. I would highly recommend this to anyone I meet. I feel like I've found a masterpiece within a sea of bad dramas coming out left and right. I loved it.

often cute and funny, but certainly not very well written

cw: mentions of sexual assault

the premise of this show is exactly the kind of transmigration trash i look for- screenwriter transmigrates into her own tv show, but it's the body of the domineering evil slut who dies in episode 3??? YES PLS. the meta commentary!! references to all the stupid tropes and characters and plot holes in c drama!! having to figure out ways to make the plot work despite unexpected developments!! give it all to me!!! an example of where the show really shines is when qianqian has to get back han shuo's trust and also give a reasonable explanation for the loss of her kung fu, so she has to stage this overdramatic death scene. it's genuinely SO fun and funny! that said, there's not nearly enough fun meta moments like this, it's pretty few and far in between, and is mostly regular plot problems that keep arising.

i love the two main leads, this drama has definitely turned me into a fan of zhao lusi, she's absolutely adorable and charming. she plays the modern girl stuck in ancient times so well, with a refreshing and realistic air. a lot of her specific speech patterns and slurring of words are so funny and when she smiles w her whole face..... so cute. ding yuxi also..... i am not usually got by these idol pretty boys so idk why but... he has me by the throat.... wtf!!! he is so cute!!!?? why am i got by this?? the way that he is a cutesy lovesick puppy..... didn't think it would get me but it did. these two leads have excellent chemistry and their cute scenes are some of the sweetest i have seen in a good and not overbearing way.

that said..... the writing for their relationship truly falls into the gutter after they get together. none of the characters are like, well written, but thats okay because i'm watching trashy c drama for a reason. the problem is when the quality falls past a point of no return with the lying and hiding and misunderstandings. han shuo falls into absolute irredeemable territory when he goes evil, takes over huayuan, imprisons qianqian, threatens the lives of qianqian's entire family and the citizens of her city, and literally attempts to sexually assault her???? it's a horrifying scene and is not treated with any level of care. none of this is even a longterm plan of huan shuo's to take down chuchu. it's just him punishing qianqian for hurting him (even tho she did it for his own good which is just more stupid bad writing)and being like oh well im not ACTUALLY physically hurting her im just mentally tormenting and terrorizing her... threat of sexual assault is ALSO terrible and not okay in any circumstance??? we even saw earlier signs of it when she was trying to set him up w chuchu and he scared her by saying the mountain bandits were gonna rape her. like i'm all for bad main characters but like u don't easily come back from the attempted sexual assault as punishment. i'm sorry this is absolutely unforgivable, and they dont even like, talk about all of the bad stuff between them, they just have sex in the prison cell and then they're on the same side again?? it's a mess, the writing is an absolute mess, and maybe it can be explained as qianqian is the bad writer who made han shuo and chuchu like this- so EASILY falling down the slippery slope to evil but like.... also isnt the point of the show that qianqian doesnt actually have full control over the fate of her characters and that they make choices for themselves?? idk anyway, truly 乱成一锅粥了。。。

chuchu is actually not a horribly written character and shes still p sympathetic by the end imo, but it's still really really hamfisted, and i wish there was more nuance in her character arc. pei heng on the other hand is just an eyesore i fuckin hate that guy get him off screen, i watch all his scenes at 2x the speed. yuanyuan and su mu's relationship is also... okay..... i... find it questionable for sure. as an able bodied person im not entiiirely equipped to discuss their depiction of her disability, but i'm gonna go ahead and say that it was quite lacking and fell into some negative stereotypes for sure, although i am endeared to her as a character.

final notes.... the feminism....... oh my god......... it's just absolutely beyond clear that the screenwriters are completely ill equipped to talk about gender dynamics, but they think they are?? so much so that the entire setting is based around the subject of gender equality. like there is only a vague vision that everyone should be equal, but no understanding of the history of the feminist movement within China, and how gender dynamics historically and systemically work. frankly, it's just not the place to talk about gender equality if they can't do it well, instead it's just a poorly written distraction from everything. like qianqian wrote the story in the first place because she was interested in the issues between men and women, and wanted representation of women in power by setting it in a matriarchy. if the show is meant to be about gender equality then do that, it needs to fully be the focus and qianqian needs to seriously learn what systemic gender oppression looks like, it's not, 'oh shit it's bad if boys cant go to school either.' but most of the show just isn't about the rules of the setting, its about all the transmigration hijinks, regular plotting.... like ok so then just make the show that!!! dont bother w the gender equality stuff!!! if you want to ACTUALLY watch a show about patriarchy, gender equality and feminism, then watch zhen huan, ju zi hong le, or for something more casual- even the first half of yanxi palace where the issues are woven into the main cast and their character arcs.... this show is crap at it.

ANYWAY, all in all, fun transmigration show w charming leads that gets quite disappointing and is ultimately rough to get through by the end.

I- *sigh*

Listen. This drama was really bad. Besides the obvious *cough* attempted rape *cough* I just absolutely couldn’t get into this drama at all. It was a blast early on because it was so nonsensical and endearing. Until the nonsensical parts pretty much overpowered the entire drama and the entire story ended up a giant, twisted heap of nonsense. I couldn’t begin to tell you when the leads fell in love, I couldn’t tell you what anyone’s motivations were, and I genuinely can’t tell you what the entire point of the story was. I know people are saying that this is the entire point since the FL is a bad scriptwriter, but how is that in any way, shape, or form an excuse for the real scriptwriters to write such a messy and lazy plot? I’m so baffled by how bad this was that I can’t even tell you what exactly I didn’t like about the drama because the WHOLE thing was bad. I just.. I genuinely don’t know what to say besides RUN. The only reason this is even 5 stars is because I’m a sucker for a cheesy ending and the one in the drama made me really happy. Otherwise this would be dead at the bottom of my watchlist in terms of ratings.

Rom-Com drama fanatics, this is for you!!
The chemistry between the main two actors are just perfect and then the comedy especially thanks to the supporting cast (the two aide's of the main characters mainly) is epic! Their acting seems so natural that it gets you hooked.
The drama has me laughing and tearing, and tugging at my heartstrings.
The OST was not so great which is probably why I can't even remember them, but the story and chemistry and comedy covers for it.
A must watch for those who like dramas in this genre.

I'm 16 episodes in, and hands down this is one of my favorite dramas of 2020 so far, and I've watched at least 40 of them. I rarely watch historical dramas, but I like the actors playing the FL and ML, having seen them recently in other dramas, so I thought I'd give this a chance - SO SO glad I did. It starts out in modern day, but quickly moves to the past with the same characters. Funny, fresh storyline, genuine chemistry between the leads... it has everything I enjoy about rom-coms but in a different setting than I'm used to. I think I also like it because you know the FL is using 21st century thinking in a very past time, but human nature is what it is no matter what period of history you're in.
Seriously, all of the 9-10 ratings aren't lying - this drama IS what a lot of us who have felt 2020 has been kind of a dud in drama scripts so far have been waiting for! Well worth the time, give it 2-3 episodes, but pretty sure you'll be hooked by the first! Side note as I haven't seen anyone mention it: I really love the side scenes FL has in the tea shop with the 3 writers..SO funny how they're "helping" her work through her script but with their own ideas and commentary on the plot. Meta and funny at the same time. :-)

No idea why this drama is rated so highly. On the surface TROTAR waves a feminist banner but the plot is stiflingly unoriginal and female characters can't step away from their dated stereotypical roles. Sisters fighting over a man, evil jealous sister, and rash and unintelligent female lead, just to name a FEW. There's potential in the plot and setting in a matriarchal society *if* this drama was actually written in a way that respected the intelligence of its viewers but alas, TROTAR fails in this regard.

Characters are traditional and one-dimensional. Male lead is an antihero that has potential but the female lead was written and acted so badly that the drama is just un-saveable. Zhao Lu Si (Xiao Qian)'s character could have just swapped places with the same role she played in Oh! My Emperor and you would not have noticed a difference.

On top of all that, I had a particular distaste for the near sexual assault scene in episode 19(?). It could have been written sensually as a CONSENSUAL test for either female or male leads but instead the writers decided to go the good ol' way of a potential rape. Yay, feminism.

Historical rom com with deep backstory!

The romance of Tiger and rose incorporated a theme of sex stratification with a rom com flavour. It was quite interesting to see how the cities differed in which sex was seen as dominant and it was slightly thought provoking, with main girls city showing the opposite of the real world where men are the lower class. I thought every character was pretty well developed which was nice to see. I adored main girl, she was so funny and cute and I liked main guy as well. The main guy, han shuo was a likeable character for the most part, however, in the later half of the show they kinda made him :/ I wish they allowed for his villain arc to be more just being mean. The romance was well developed the switch from hate to love was natural and did not come too quickly. The romance was also not just fluff was at times very intense cause it was driven by the plot which I liked. THE ENDING YALL THE LAST EP HAD ME FEELING A COASTER OF EMOTIONS. I heard there’s a s2 coming out and I’m SO excited for it!! I hope it’s based in modern day. Overall, this was a pretty good watch overall , however, the last 5 eps were a bit of a let down and they made the male lead out to be extremely toxic at the start of his villain arc which I wish they left out cause it basically ruined the taste of the drama in the last 5 eps. Hopefully s2 makes up for that madness 😭. The rewatch value is low simply because I think this is a type of drama u cant rewatch twice since how the latter half went on and would be more suitable to watch a s2 next

This is a MUST WATCH

As someone who just recently gotten more into historical dramas, this was a really cute and fun show. The comedy was perfect and the acting was absolutely great.
I wish I watched it when it first came out, felt like I'm missing the whole experience.
Either way each actor portrayed their characters so well, even though the story did feel like it was dragging in the middle, I still continued, because I was curious on the hype of this show and it was worth it!!

Also I'm obsessed with the ending theme song, it's sooo good!!

Beware of withdrawals you will have after watching!

THIS DRAMA IS A LEGEND. ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE WATCHED! PLS DO NOT THINK TWICE.

Zhao Lu Si and DIng Yu Xi's chemistry is 11/10 (how i wish they can collaborate in another drama again). The drama is super cute, touching and sweet and it will make you crave for more and have withdrawals!
I cannot emphasize further how much the plot is really one of a kind, not your typical historical drama for sure! Definitely my favourite and highly recommended drama all time!

FINAL VERDICT: i am addicted and it's too short
