Acho Namgyal: Shey Kyi Jinpa (2010)

A documentary about the life of Acho Namgyal, who, though born to poor parents and tragically blinded in infancy, became one of Tibet's greatest musicians. His skill at playing the dramyin was noticed in his youth and a lord sponsored his musical studies. During the 1930s and 1940s, before the Chinese invasion of Tibet, Acho Namgyal revitalized two classical genres of Tibetan music, Nangma and Toeshey. The film alternates between historical reenactments and contemporary commentary. Edit Translation
