Waste of time. Do not watch.

I feel like this second season was a complete waste of time seeing as nothing changed between the end of season 1 and the end of season 2. The situation remained the same so season 2 might as well not exist. There was no character development whatsoever, unless you count Jojo becoming more and more irritating.

She's honestly the worst female lead I've ever seen in a drama. Are we supposed to feel sorry for her because of what her parents did? In season 1, because of the way Gul-mi and her aunt are treating her, we're led to believe that she did something terrible, but it turns out it wasn't her fault. I thought we'd learn something new in season 2 but nope, so I guess the way they treated her never made sense in the first place. She did nothing wrong, and also they kept saying she was mooching off of them, even though she worked two jobs and paid rent? Also, her aunt suddenly being nicer to her in season 2 was kinda random.

The whole Duk-gu plotline was so dumb. It was really obvious from the beginning that he and Brian were brothers because of the last name and how Jojo's friend says "they could be brothers" when they do the face analysis. Not sure if we were supposed to be shocked? And it looks like Duk-gu is supposed to be the good guy, but to me it just seems like he gave Jojo the shield so Hye-yeong would have a chance with Jojo because he felt sorry for him. So basically, he meddled with Jojo and Sun-oh's relationship? What a great guy.

Then there's Jojo acting like she liked Hye-yeong from the moment she saw him in the nurse's office in season 1, but there was no sign of her liking him at all until halfway through season 2, and all of it felt so forced. It felt like she was just pretending to like him out of pity. Seriously, what a boring character. He's dull and plain-looking and has no redeeming qualities. He's obsessed with Jojo and it's honestly pathetic how he's willing to date her even if she never likes him back just because he wants her by his side.

Jojo clearly liked Sun-oh up until she got the shield, and even after season 2 it's still not clear why she installed it other than "I was scared". Scared of what? Sun-oh helped her through her trauma on Jeju island, and then she just dumps him for no reason? She never does give him a decent explanation. Also, they mention her meeting Sun-oh's mom after the accident, but we never find out what happened or what was said. So many plotholes and things that lead nowhere. What was the point of Hye-yeong's dad being in prison? What was the point of the crazy guy who killed people because of The Ringing World? Why is Jojo suddenly this great artist in season 2? It's never mentioned at any point that she likes to draw, and no one is impressed by her talent when they discover that she's the artist. We know nothing about her other than she works two jobs to pay back her mom's debt and she's a compulsive liar who doesn't care about other people's feelings.

All the characters were awful, except for Sun-oh and, surprisingly, Gul-mi. She was believable as a mean girl (even if her reason to hate Jojo made no sense) and she was passionate about things. First, becoming an idol, then becoming a content creator, and then becoming a member of the Badge Club. She had more character development than all the other characters combined.

Sun-oh came off as a bit creepy in season 1 at first when he brought Jojo in an alley and asked if he could kiss her, but it's later clear that no one in his life has ever liked him and that she's the only one that makes him feel something positive. It's ridiculous that he apologises to Jojo after reading her instagram post as if her non-explanation somehow justifies the way she treated him. And again, season 2 didn't solve or explain anything. Sun-oh is still as hurt and confused in the end as he was at the end of season 1 and he's stuck with a girlfriend he'll probably never like, if we're to believe what Yuk-jo tells Jojo outside the store.

So, what's the moral of the story supposed to be exactly? The very first scene of season 1 makes it seem like the point is that Love Alarm is a terrible invention, which is further reinforced by the fact that it divides the population (What happened to the Anti-Love Alarm people btw?) and causes suicides and crimes, but Duk-gu says it was meant to be invented? Why is he against Love Alarm 2.0 if it helps prevent suicides? Also, how can he be against 2.0 if his goal was for Jojo to consider Hye-yeong as a potential boyfriend? Instead of giving her the shield, wouldn't she have seen Hye-yeong on the list with 2.0 anyway? I think I'm thinking too hard about this poorly-written mess.

Not a satisfying watch

This is going to be more of a rant than a review so those who like this series please skip reading.
What worked well - the beautiful cinematography, ost music, new concepts being explored.
However instead of a feel good romantic drama as one would expect based on the title, this one turned out to be melancholic and weepy. Most of the time the FL is seen crying or silently ruminating. Sun Oh who was the main FL in the first season is understandably angry, confused and upset, unable to move on from the sudden end to his first close relationship - he never got closure from JoJo despite repeatedly approaching her to understand. All he wanted and was entitled to was an honest conversation with JoJo so that he could make sense of the past and move on in life. Kim JoJo was an immature coward, that too a selfish one who didn't care to give any explanation. Sun Oh was always kind to her and saved her from public humiliation by openly offering his hand to her in the classroom in the first season. However towards the end she is seen publicly humiliating him by showing that her alarm does not ring for him any more, despite having her own selfish reason she never clarifies why nor cares how much heartbreak her decision and lack of closure would cause. I couldn't empathise with her idiotic decision as Sun Oh had been nothing but kind and supportive of her all the while, and an honest conversation with him him would have been enough to keep the relationship alive.
As for Hye Young, he was the only character which had some development. From being a creepy stalker kind of person who loved JoJo without even being on speaking terms with her, he went to openly expressing his interest and courting her. He was also a lousy friend to Sun Oh, cutting off all ties with him and moving out of home without even informing him.
I felt all the sympathy more for Sun Oh character more than the JoJo or Hye Young. He lost his love, his friend, his smile and his girlfriend in between because of lack of open communication from JoJo. If JoJo could be excused for her fears, why couldn't Sun Oh be excused for his justified anger? If JoJo could love someone again, why didn't she choose Sun Oh who was still in love with her, someone she is attracted to and had left in the lurch. Why go for Hye Young?
Using the sword and the shield for selfish reasons is cheating. Hiding the reason from someone you like is also a kind of betrayal. I wished both Sun Oh and Hye Young had walked away from her towards the end and taught her a lesson to be honest to deserve a relationship with either of them.
The only satisfactory part is that Sun Oh deserved a warm and honest girlfriend rather than JoJo and therefore in a way it was good he didn't end up with her. The gloomy reticent JoJo and the morose glum Hye Young deserved each other.

Total disappointment

First of all it a whole new story in season 2, there is no story line up with season 1, director though that season 1 was fantastic that's why let's do something different and then he just spoiled it and disappointed us.. Until season 1 episode 6 everything was fine, afterwards from no where near they just broke up between them without any valid reason and made a storyline that is never gonna fascinate kdrama's fans!
I enjoyed so much that, I couldn't wait to see 2nd season but now I regret it, I never skipped season 1 while watching those episodes, but I almost skipped every part of it and waited for a happy ending between Kim JoJo and Sun-Oh, but that didn't happen,
Bro, you made a break up between them, so they struggled for it and you need to make things up for them after sometime, but the director didn't even give it a chance to patch up between them, that jerk(Lee Hye-young) came from no where, won JoJo's heart and made us disappointed...
I just regret that I waited and watched the second season, director and story script writers should watch 18 Again season 1, to learn how to make a good story line up and how to end the little story with a happy ending that would make the audience happy! You guys go and wash your brain before thinking about making any story about love and affection!
You guys disappointed us, and I will make sure that I never watch any drama that is directed by
Kim Jin-woo...

Worst kdrama ever

This is what happens when Netflix gets involved. It revolves around money and their need to make a season 2 out of it. It was so slow paced and boring that I had to skip the endless flashbacks, slow motions and scene cuts the whole time. There is no character development and they skip over important parts pretty quickly, but drag out the unnecessary parts where the characters walk in slow motion. Also, all characters except for the one who’s getting nothing out of it, seem to be bad people. These characters are far from realistic.

The only reason I kept watching was because of Sun Oh’s good looks. I hate it and I don’t want to watch Netflix Original kdrama’s again.

I'm speechless

It's the worst kdrama I've ever seen. It's heart breaking, my waiting for 2years gone waste. Hate the story and end of this drama. Worst ending. So guys it's better not to watch this drama it really can break your heart. I hate jojo's character the most cause she ruined everything I really hate her. Why director didn't think about our feelings, expectations. Everyone wanted to see jojo and sun oh together but at the end sun oh got hurt. They didn't placed the end well. He also loved jojo and it was jojo's fault to leave him and why he suffered this much why jojo didn't give him a chance if she didn't ruin everything then it would be a happy ending

First of all I for one loved the ending and the progression of the
plot. Although the story line was CHOPPY at times and we enevr got the full story behind what happened with Deok GU.

I freaked out when I found out that the concept of Love Alarm was inspired by Hyeoung and Jojo omgggg
So may of you are angry that Jojo ultimately picked Hyeoung LMAOO and are bashing him and calling him boring. When did being decent and kind be boring and bland? Yall must be teens.

There are many reasons why Hyeoung and Joho are the endgame:
1. Hyeoung was never forceful or aggressive to Jojo. Yes JJ was annoying at times, But you forget she had some deep childhood trauma which naturally makes her vulnerable, insecure, and scared. She needed someone there as a support system. Hyeoyoung was literally her boulder and stayed by her side selflessly without demanding anything in return.
2. 2. Hyeoung was extremely mindful and cared about Jojo’s feelings. He never only thought about only his feelings.
3. He never pressured her
4. He didn’t want to reveal his trauma to her because he didn’t want to burden her since she has her own trauma. He was so thoughtful.
Y'all call Hyeyoung a loser for suppressing his feelings at first and letting Sunho confess to her first. LISTEN. His father is a murderer. Bc of this he felt that he needed to be EXTRA CAREFUL and paint this always nice image of himself so that people don't assume that he's only a murderer's child. HE wanted to amicable bc he felt that's what he deserved and that he needed to prove how good he was. so people don't make that association. He felt the need to overcompensate always.

And y'all calling him weak? UM he literally denied his lying, murderer, father parole. THAT TAKES A LOT OF STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO LET GO OF SOMEONE LIKE THAT SO STFU. Especially your father.

Jojo did Sunho dirty by not properly explaining herself to him. BUT let’s not act like Sunho is the total victim in this love triangle. He literally kissed JJ twice despite knowing she had a boyfriend. The second time he kissed her despite knowing his best friend was dating her. Why y’all romanticizing his homewrecker behavior? Is it bc he’s hot? JJ even revealed how when he kissed her, all she thought of was Hyeyoung at that time yikes.

Second, goddamn he’s aggressive and reckless. I understand he felt hurt but storming in her class like that and making such a scene was so disrespectful and childish tf? How does this scene NOT make him look selfish. Hyeyoung literally called him out for his selfish ass and that was SO satisfying. He basically told Sunoh yeah you lover her hard man but wtf you know she has anxiety and you put her in such a tough spot. YOU SEE???!! Hyeyoung ALWAYS considering JJ’s feelings first.

I think the reason why most people are mad is bc most of the viewers are highschoolers or teens. Sunoh and JJ’s chemistry is great no doubt but that attraction and love at first sigh didn’t sustain them. They grew up and had their own demons.

Hyeyoung and Jojo’s lovestory was dynamic it built up. It was HEALTHY. NON TOXIC.
FYI for everyone saying JJ didn’t love Hyeyoung. UHHHH embarrassing. Have you seen the ending???? How many times her love alarm COULD have rang when she was with Hyeyoung.

Yall make nice, attentive men look so boring. I wonder what would of happened if the casting switched. Hyeyoung is SOOOOOO ATTRACTIVE. Sunoh is gorgeous as well. But they each have their own charms. Trust me when you grow up and pass the highschool phase, a man like Hyeyoung will be a dream. Please watch this with an open mind and understand Jojo’s story and choices. Don’t senselessly give the drama bad review just bc she chose the nice guy for once.

TBH my other fave character was Yook JO. SHE WAS SO SWEET OMG I LOVE HER. SunOh can't let her go either damn. IDK maybe if there is a season 3 , we may see their relationship progress and buildbeautifully :') Overall IM SO HAPPY THAT MY OTP FINALLY MADE IT.

ANNOYED, DISAPPOINTED, VEXED

the fact that I waited for this series for two year just to get the trash season 2 that they made has me so vexed beyond words, like what.... how can Kim jojo just suddenly be in love with Hye yeong instead of Sun oh I literally couldn’t take it anymore after episode 4, I am so disappointed I had high expectations for this series but the let down is devastating. And the fact that Hye yeong gets to steal his best friends girlfriend and they are literally saying that it’s okay just grossed me out.

Watch Netflix The One instead

Watch superior The One instead. Similar concept but void of typical drama limitations.

Netflix was pushing Love Alarm on me so I watched S1 before the S2 drop and got bored. FL is annoying, classic drama Mary Sue - overachieving orphan/poor girl that the hottest, richest guy in school inexplicably falls in love with even though she's supremely obnoxious and totally average (the actress lack of chin is distracting). I don't know why this girl is such a big star (I see she's in that River show that had a recast scandal recently).

ML is a classic drama Gary Stu - rich, unhappy with mommy/daddy issues, super hot so everyone falls in love with him (cue ridiculous scenes of girls swooning). But at least Song Kang earns his star status unlike FL. See I bothered to learn his name, I didn't bother with hers.

Love triangle is a drag and one can see from miles away how the story would end (read: not how it should which is ML and 2d ML getting together since their bromance is the only thing that really works).

Underwhelming, predictable, forgettable and dull.

Confusing & Weird Happiness ~,~

I loved this season too but at the last 2 episode I was crying a river. ~,~
The main thing is I was crying a lot and ofc I was afraid about the ending..because I had reasons why I was crying like a baby with confused feelings..
⚠️No.1: I was upset a bit about Joo never considered Sunoh feelings, but at the same I was happy because everyone at the end was happy and they opened a new chapter in their life..
⚠️No2: I was full of hope about Sunoh and JoJo love story, but they just say goodbye to each other..
⚠️No3: I was happy to JoJo and Hye Young love story.
⚠️No4: I dreamed of Gulmi and Dokgu's love story, but they didn't come together. ㅜ.ㅜ
and more.. By the way the happy ending was totally happy ending I mean everyone was ending their old stories and everyone opened a new chapter in their life. So yeah it was kinda a good happy ending for everyone.
So yeah I loved the ending scene. It was such a beautiful thing. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Also all of the music was amazing like always and it makes the series more emotional, so yeaaaaah I din't regret to start the Love Alarm Season 2. (∪ ◡ ∪)

A Hit or a Miss!

First of all, I would like to mention that the story of the second season would either be a hit or a miss for most people.

I usually avoid writing reviews as there are many already for this drama but since I really liked the story of this second season and there were mostly negative reviews I felt strongly to write it.

The second Season of Love Alarm portrays a highly sophisticated and mature theme, unlike the first season. As already mentioned in many reviews this could be a result of a change of directors but since I watched both seasons in one setting I did not feel that was the case and felt it natural as part of the time gap of the drama and that the characters are now older and mature.

The most realistic and nostalgic drama that I ever watched

I understand that most of the views may be form teenagers, so I understand most of the frustration. But I mean it when I say that this drama is beautifully and sincerely made. The ending is so so real. And I thank to all the production for giving us this drama, as it is.

The story is strong and for some people it may be boring, but life is as boring as it is. We don't always know what to do or what to think about our feelings or others. Life is about choices and situations. And so it was for Jojo.

I'm really happy to watched this drama and I hope everybody can understand this story beyond the pretty faces.

Love,
Mariana.
