Very different films but both give off a fairytale vibe.
Similarities
-The male leads are trapped in a situation they cannot control and must escape in order to return to the girl they love
-There's a sense of mystery and beauty in both films (despite it having a dark theme)
-Both are about children stuck in time.
-Both films tackle the theme of loneliness in a very unique and interesting way
Differences
-The ML in Hansel and Gretel is trapped by the kids, and must figure out a way to escape. In Vanishing time, the ML is one of the kids trapped in time
-Hansel and Gretel is about parental abandonment and abuse, Vanishing Time really focuses on loneliness and accidental social isolation.
-Hansel and Gretel is a horror film and Vanishing Time is not
Both may look very different, but would make a great double feature. I totally recommend both!!

I know, at first, this does not seem like a similar movie but it oddly is:
Similarities:
-Both films are about a man running away from his responsibility of possibly becoming a father.
-Both men are trapped in an unusual maze full of anomalies that do not make sense, and they must follow a set of rules to escape.
-Both men are on the phone with their partner before the horror begins
-Both men must help a child, which might be the only way to escape
-Both men are forced to confront their situation to move forward
-Both are effective horror films
Differences:
-Location: Exit 8 is set in a Subway Station. Hansel and Gretal is set in the woods.
-The Children: Exit 8: the child is adorable and precious. Hansel and Gretal: the children are the villains despite their terrible past aka. the anti-heroes.
-The Setting: Exit 8 is modern, existential dread, while Hansel and Gretal is told like a fable/fairytale.
-Spoiler: One man escapes; the other does not. Will not spoil which one tho, you gotta watch both films to find out.
I think both films would be a GREAT double feature and make an interesting nightmare combo!!
