here comes the spoiler

I hate to use this show as an example........but it is long in coming...

This could have been a good drama, I like the stars and was looking forward to it………..…but, the scrip writers did a horrible job…..the whole story is about how to screw one another….and….of course, it is always someone else’s fault. …….Now, Even the mothers are villains...they are atrocious, ruthless and conniving. They interfere ruthlessly and manipulate the lives of their children …bad mamas. I think this is where I lost my taste for this drama.

what is this story about? A textbook on how to be obnoxious in public and methods you can use to screw others?

It had been a while many dramas had been using the same blueprints….Slapping, beating is the immediate first reactions……either ruin that person's reputation by spreading the hateful rumors , or threaten harms to their loved ones ….......if all else failed, killing them is a good final solution……….

Is this the only approach writers know how to scripted the dramas these days? Is this how they set examples for us to behave in public? Ruthless, violent, brutal ways to bend and control others to get what you want.?..... Is the formula for success is to eliminate all those standing within your path?….........It is very sad and disappointing.

I will continue watching this drama because I like the actor and actress, not because it is a good drama…..I do not recommend nor do I advise not to watch. It is of personal taste and we all have our preferences………some might think it is wonderful for their own reasons….but, it is not my cup of tea.

Beautiful Love Story

The title "South Wind Knows" gives an indication that there will be twists and turns, ups and downs, happiness and sadness, intrigue and disinterest. The story seems all over the place without connecting the dots to some viewers. In my opinion, each facet of the story stems from the two lead characters. Though they may not be deemed to be as strong as the main storyline, each character in the Fu family has his own drama. There is nothing about SWK that lends to the idea of being boring. The main characters' story is a beautiful depiction of true love, trust, sacrifice, fear, acceptance, rejection, and love again. Even though it can be seen as unreal, viewers must remember that this drama is fiction; therefore, anything can take place. The typical overbearing mother should not be a surprise. The son who wishes to please his controlling parent is not surprising either. I give SWK a solid 10 because I accept it for what it is...a well-acted, complexly presented story of first love and the drama of a typical greedy rich family. The music is lovely and fitting for SWK.

Sweet Love in spite of Tragedies

Well... First of all this drama was made 3 years ago and an A class budget drama. So considering these, its already outstanding, specifically in melodrama genre.

Indeed the plot full of angst and villains who cause the angst. But, again, isnt it a what a melodrama should be?

So if our expectation is a romcom, this one indeed not the one. Its a melodrama in classic and maximum version 😂

The plot was cliche, conflict and power struggle around rich families which we are all may have watched a lot before.

But still there are some points where SWK excelled :
- whenever MLFL get together, its very sweet and adorable. They are cute like teenagers who fall in love for the first time 😝
- a series of unfortunate events indeed happen in reality too, thats why we still able to get lots of life lessons from enduring Yun Shen and Xu Jiu.

Even from villains, because SWK very clear with what their background and motives in doing evil deeds.

- the OST are very very beautiful, kdrama vibe

Actually all the snows, ost, and environment all feel like in kdrama, even the plot also like in kdrama (a few years ago trend).

- acting quality is no joke, CY really portray despair and sad feeling like no one else. Ppl said there is brokeness feeling in his acting that we rarely found anywhere else. XYZ also act very well here, their chemistry feel natural and sweet.

Conclusion :
So if you are melodrama lovers and appreciate + enjoy acting skill (love to immerse on feeling of the leads) more than plot, i would say SWK is perfect for you.

But if you expect romcom and also demand unique plot, then just watch the sweet moments between MLFL, surely you will still able to smile alot looking at them, its very rare adult romance can be as cute and adorable as their romance and certainly you will not want to miss it 😉

Something a miss

Watch this of course for Cheng Yi & Zhang Yu Xi 2nd drama. Again the best part of pick the old partner is no more awkwardness between the actor/ess.

Really want to like this drama. After everything that Fu Yun Shen (YS) & Zhu Jiu (ZJ) go through here. But in the end something feel a miss when they close the curtain. I really hope we get extra/special/ a little more episode to make this drama more perfect or ending with better note.

What i like:
+ the chemistry between Cheng Yi & Zhang Yu Xi. Feel like reunite 2 old friend.
+ my 2 fav old actor & actress, Paul Chun & Cao Cui Fen. Play as grandma & grandpa for our ML & FL.
+ all the hardship in YS & ZJ relationship only to make their bond stronger over time.
+ after everything that happen in FU family, in the end family still family. And as always, blood is thicker then water play a big role here.

What a miss:
The ending.... I don't know feel like they push fast forward button in the end. Everything wrap so fast we don't have time to swallow properly. Really hope they prolong the ending & shorten the middle part. Cause sometimes the middle part feel a little bored & it's like they prolong some scene....

Overall this quite good drama to watch...

It was a 10 for me until the last few episodes. Then it dropped to 8.5.

Southwind is a bit rough around the edges, especially toward the end. Some parts don’t flow smoothly, and there’s a subplot that feels kind of unnecessary and way too over-the-top for my taste. That said, I really enjoyed the family dynamics, especially the power struggle between the Fu brothers. The cast is absolutely top-notch, no complaints there. But my biggest frustration? By episode 39, some of the characters who committed truly horrible acts didn’t get the punishment they deserved (Yunshen’s mother, I’m looking at you!).

And of course, Cheng Yi once again proves he’s the king of whump. His character has more lives than a cat; he is shot, paralyzed, staked… you name it, he’s been through it all.

Overall, this was a great watch, but those last few draggy episodes definitely took away from the experience.

A+ for Cheng Yi, though.

Some things are great, some things are not…

Key take aways: Starts off good, middle part way too plot-heavy, gets better towards the end but feels a bit rushed and predictable.
Acting was strong, music ok, effects not great.

The following I wrote when on episode 24, but my thoughts are pretty much the same on these points after completing all episodes:

First of all: Fu Yun Shen (1st ML), brought to life by Cheng Yi, is just such a wholeheartedly good character. He didn't start out like that, but he turns out to be the kind of persona that fills you with a warm feeling. Everything from his acts and behaviour to the way he talks and smiles. Great acting by Cheng Yi.

As for Zhang Yu Xi portraying Zhu Jiu (1st FL), I have had some mixed impressions of her before, but I do think she fills this role well.

They had some sweet moments, but not off-the charts chemistry.

Fu Xin Bo as Fu Xi Zhou (2nd ML); I have liked some other works of his I have seen, and he does OK, but I think maybe his character becomes a bit "flat" as it progresses. I do like how they try to show his internal conflicts (will not divulge further to not give spoilers).

Then:
I sincerely wish the writers had skipped the family dramas and scheming character types. That would have made this SO much better. They could have created a story arch in a different way.
The drop that kind of did if for me now was Zhou Zhi Zhi's mum, but Fu Yun Shen's mother is also way over-the-top.

Some scenes are a bit too fake-looking (props & visual effects), but other part of the cinematography is quite beautiful.

I also find it a bit annoying that the female characters, especially Ruan Ruan, but also occasionally Zhu Jiu, talks in so childish ways. I know RR's character is supposed to be a bit spoiled and childish, but still - to talk like she is a 7 year old?

Loving this drama

I was waiting for another Cheng Yi's drama to watch & this drama didn't disappoint me. I am loving the chemistry b/w Cheng yi & ZHnag Yuxi both are amazing actors. Cheng yi always surprises he really nailed this role, i was so surprised that he can do so well in modern dramas too coz i have seen his all other dramas all are costume dramas. He is so good.

SWK is really good paced and romantic drama, I am really liking the story, It is a story which have enough of sweet & sad parts of life, really good. For anyone who like romantic dramas this is a must watch.

Melodrama of the Month Award winner

It was painstaking watching the main characters being tortured emotionally or physically for thirty-nine episodes. I am just relieved that it is over, and that the characters are out of sight, out of mind. Cheng Yi and Zhang Yu Xi kept the drama flowing, even when it dragged with the singing and evilness on screen. Cheng Yi is the official Melodrama King. Yunshen suffered physically and emotionally, and cried in two-thirds of the drama, Fu Yunshen would have lived a happy life with a different mother. Zhang Yu Xi is Main Lead Queen of the Month. Zhu Jiu put up with a lot of sh^& from Mother Jiang Shu Ning.

This should be labeled as a musical melodrama. The singing was extraneous, overt and repetitive. If the director wanted so much singing, he should have told the actors to sing these songs, instead of using phantom singers. Otherwise the BGM was very good.

It was no surprise that the two pathetic villains, Fu Xi Zhou and Jiang Shu Ning, had their redemption at the end. They were unscrupulous, vindictive, manipulative. They should have died instead of the nicer people, Grandpa, Dr Ji, Aunty Dr Addy, Grandma, Zhu Jiu's Mother and Father. I was cringing when Ruan Ruan and Xi Zhou reunited at the end, and had babies.

The singing diluted the emotion on screen. If they had trimmed the singing and some of the episodic content, it would have been very effective as a 30 episode drama.

This drama reminds me of the Kdramas with the drama plot and incessant singing and the song quality. In particular, Yunshen and Zhu Jiu reminded me of Winter Sonata's YuJin and Joon Sang, with their emotional torture and the manipulative mothers.

AGAINST ALL ODDS

I would say this is refreshing for me because, after watching many CDramas, I started to realize that most have the same story line but are delivered in different ways by different actors. If not a marriage contract, it's Cinderella with a child or children or a CEO falling in love with a poor girl. This drama was another kind. It has a touch of the old arranged marriage culture of parents but didn't succeed. Thank God. A story of two people in love facing all the odds surrounding them—people and situations—and how many times the ML got hurt where people around him intended to hurt him, and the character of a father's shortsightedness and how he blames people who helped him.
I like how their love story developed from their first meeting. The second meeting was more emotional, but it was where you understood how love should be shared between two people despite the odds. They are always ready to be there for each other. For better or worse. The chemistry between the two main leads was awesome. Incomparable. They convey their emotions naturally. I love watching these two lead actors because they tend not to overact their acting. Control and timing are their forte. Zhang Yuxi is very good at conveying her emotions. In her crying scenes, she does not need to howl to show how hurt she is. She is good at acting her hurt simply, but you can feel her emotions. The ending was not very grand, as some expected it to be the typical ending with wedding bells, bridal march, and all. The ending talks about them—simple people who are both in love and just want to spend their time together quietly and simply. Overall, it was good. Minimal criticism, for me, does not need to be mentioned because it is not important.

Cheng Yi lives!

If you've watched other Cheng Yi works (you should), this is a showcase to his talent for sublety of expressions, and a refreshing opporunity to see him play playful-- as most often he is at his best portraying angst--which this show is just about ridiculously too much of for character--but he finally gets a happy ending--without the addition of an extra episode to give you an alternate ending (tho'-chuckle, he still has to wait a long time to get there!). What was also different as a story was that there was no inherently evil villian but otherwise it is trope heavy in regards to weal and woe., so if you can't stand that, you might not like this work.
