Masterpiece!
To anyone who got lost here, I want you to know that this is one of the best Military Chinese dramas I've ever seen! I thought I'll be disappointed but it was great. I never thought that I'll fall in love again with military dramas after watching too much military dramas like Arsenal Military Academy, Arrange Marriage with Bossy Marshall, Autumn Cicada, Circle of Love, Operation Special Warfare, and more. It's been a long time since I got bored and nothing caught my interest until last week, I just searched on Youtube, Chinese military drama and I was scrolling down I was caught by the title and I felt like I found a gem. I started watching it then. It gave me satisfaction specially on how the story unfolds. I love all the characters because they gave justice to it. They nailed it! The casting was amazing because they portrayed it accordingly. There were a lot of twists and I have predicted some of them but it still gave me a surprising reaction because each actor delivered their lines and emotions naturally. The main protagonists, Beichen and Hangjing were very natural and I could really feel them especially when I looked at their eyes. Very expressive! Superb! My most favorite male protagonist is Beichen because of the fact that he portrayed his character professionally. It's like I'm watching a real childish guy who got inlove and was changed after he entered military. He became a wonderful and disciplined man. A man with values and principle. He didn't disappoint the people he love. He became the best and was sorrounded by a beautiful and supportive family. He was faithful and willing to sacrifice things even if it means he has to die. He was a good friend and leader. A faithful husband until the end! I just love him! And for my favorite female protagonist, my favorite one was Aunt Qi. She was so dear and loved her family. She was understanding and never meant harm to anyone. She was an instrument to let anyone in her family be connected. She was a wind who let everyone sleep peacefully. She was an amazing woman, a mother, aunt and wife. She's my fav!
To anyone who wants to watch this, don't let your guard down! This drama will play your emotions! Other times you feel happy, kilig, and laughed so much but other times, you'll get sad, cry so much and get depressed! You'll get your blood boil! There were parts that will let you stop breathing! They really portrayed their characters so well that you will have mixed emotions especially the climax part. Though this drama hurts me so much that I have to cry, I assure you guys that this was really one of the BEST Chinese Military drama! Their lines were touching and you can feel the heartaches of the soldiers and their family. It was not easy to protect the people you love, the country , your motherland.
Salute! to all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the protection and peace for humanity!
PS: The drama wasn't perfect especially the character of Hangjing because of misunderstandings and contradictions of her words but I assure you guys, she nailed it! She's a great actress! She gave life to Hangjing as what the writers wrote!

there is so many touching moments and it makes me cry
it may not the best romantic series, but bc so many misunderstandings between leads, but it's really good that they back together in their crucial moments, especially when the ML lost all of his family except lil sis and his wife. It's more realistic bc although ML is possessive to FL, he managed to be a great commander for his soldiers. The friendship between ML and his friends was so great as well, they support each other till the end. the ML sacrificed everything for his homeland even thought he must be separated from his beloved ones and his beloved one stay strong and faithfully waiting for him

I recommend watching
One of the best series I have watched, the actors' performance was great and the tragic scenes affected me a lot, especially the war scenes and the death of the heroes, regardless of some illogical events that were unnecessary, such as the death of the heroine's character in the fire and then her return with another character, but in general the series was amazing in terms of story, acting, directing and music, I love sad endings and I cried a lot in the last three episodes. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this creative workWas this review helpful to you?
Falls Very Short
I wanted to love this drama with all that was within me. This era of Chinese history fascinates me, and “Fall in Love” is one of my favorite Asian dramas of all time.It has stuff going for it. Great costuming, an intriguing plot, SHAWN DOU , etc. But the romance is so appallingly annoying that I couldn’t bring myself to finish. I’m so sad about it. But the constant misunderstandings and even the willingness of both characters (especially especially especially the FL) to hurt the other is more than I can take. The toxicity borders on abuse, and the absolute lack of logic is maddening.
I was going to keep trying, but I soon found out that it wasn’t going to get better until the very end, and I wasn’t willing to watch twenty more episodes of it. It falls prey to poorly executed tropes and far too drawn out angst. The writing is infuriating.
It’s a no for me.

Stereotypical Republican Love Story
War has broken out all over. The girl has two options: the rich bully who has an icy heart or the poor but warm-hearted loving rebel. Just GUESS which one she'll pick? lol Seriously though, it's super obvious because of who gets more screen time.Everything is extremely predictable. The filming is lovely (even though at times the green screen was really obvious and horrendous), the soundtrack was typical. However, the fact that she just doesn't age throughout and the front cover is super misleading due to that -- the bangs/fringe look typically makes the women look younger, but it just wasn't as complimentary on this actress and it kept bothering me. So the male lead becomes a grown man, while she's permanently stuck in this weird child-like look. It's irritated me enough that I'm going to stop watching. Each episode is 45-46 minutes, and there is a lot of character building and the love triangle doesn't kick in until episode nine and that's just the beginning of it. It truly kicks off in episode ten.
If you're looking for a literal 'stereotypical' and 'everything is predictable' show, then this is it. It was so fitted with your obvious tropes, that I wasn't going to finish watching it. The description of the show was so much more impactful, and felt like it would be much more enticing and interesting, but it just isn't.
EDIT: So I've looked at the photos because I don't REALLY want to drop the show, but was hoping she grew up, and she DOES -- so I'm going to give it a couple more episodes in hope! If it finally takes off and something actually starts to happen aside from the predictable storyline, then I'll change my review. P.S. I swear I've seen this somewhere already, that's how predictable it is.
EDIT 2: So I'm still watching. Of course, even though the FL doesn't love him back, the 1st ML will do anything, even putting his own life on the line. I think as long as you don't binge the show, it's okay in doses. The characters are truly built right out of a romance book's tropes.
EDIT 3: Things carry on. She's starting to love him back. They have another misunderstanding. Predictable.

Not dropping it yet..........but its close
Lets first start by saying the acting is great. I have liked Shawn Dou for a while but never seen the female lead, Chen Du Ling in anything before. She was pleasant surprise but I feel could have been more so if the script had let her be. Which leads me to my main problem so far with the show and the reason I am struggling to keep watching. Although I am not dropping it yet its a close run thing at times.Call me silly if you like but after 16 episodes I expect some type of character development in the main leads. Our ML, the third Master Bei Chen has had alot of character development. He began as a irresponsible playboy and has become a high ranking soldier who who is more than capable of using his mind to stand up not only to the warlords of the era but also protect his family. However the same can not be said for the FL Hang Jing, which is were the drama gets annoying.
Hang Jing joined Bei Chen's family when the show began as her father and his were good friends. Hang Jing's father has basically treated her as his own daughter for years, and yes she did get bullied by the ML and his sister early on which didn't leave a good impression, but the FL has always had a sense of 'i know what's right and no one else does' about her. She even allowed the very family who had protected her for years to get in serious trouble because she was protecting a rebel friend of hers who tried to kill someone in their house! Then when she found out the ML had gotten into serious trouble for rescuing her she instead chose to trust the rebel, who she knows is lying to her, over the man who has done nothing but protect her. where is the logic? Plus she says she will take responsibility for her actions but only wants to do so on her own terms, that isn't taking responsibility! The girl has not moved forwards in 16 episodes, very short-sighted and only thinks about her own needs, constantly getting people around her in trouble and seemingly not bothered that she does until she is forced to face it, even then she faces it as least as possible. Over all the actor is good but the character is not likable and has had no growth.
The costumes and the cinematography are great in this show, so are the actors. But the one badly written lead serves to uproot the whole drama if it isn't solved soon.

A Pesky Plot
Set in a tumultuous time of war, Lin Hang Jin seeks refuge and lives with Xiao Bei Chen's family after her father got imprisoned. As they live together, the immature and mischievous Xiao Bei Chen often bullies her and cause trouble in her daily life. Despite so, she always answered with resilience. Topping that with her kind heart, Xiao Bei Chen's admiration for Lin Hang Jin grows and love blooms. The story follows their romance filled with misunderstandings, war, distance, and rivals. The themes explored in this drama was intriguing enough for me to start watching. Upon watching the first episode, I wondered how the enmity between the two main characters will develop to love and whether their love would stand the test of war, distance, and competition. However, I find myself feeling exhausted over the initial buildup of the story.
Xiao Bei Chen being this mischievous and immature young gentleman, constantly bullies Lin Hang Jin. Although he keeps approaching and bothering her in order to prove a point to his friends, I believe that he just wants her attention. After developing feelings, Xiao Bei Chen would come up with schemes to enforce himself on her. Despite this plot being cute at first, the repetitive schemes started to get boring and annoying. Not to mention, Lin Hang Jin was so naive to his schemes and despite her aloof exterior and intelligence, she would always end up a damsel in distress, which was frustrating. This drama had a promising plot yet its writing did not deliver. All the schemes in the beginning had already wore me out before the real romance and story even began.
Despite the exhausting antics, they made a good decision at casting Chen Du Ling and Shawn Dou for the roles of Lin Hang Jin and Xiao Bei Chen, respectively. Chen Du Ling's visuals and expressions were befitting for the naive, gullible, intelligent, resilient, and elegant young maiden, Lin Hang Jin. Her outfit, makeup, and hairstyle did not disappoint! She looked really pretty wearing the outfits from that era. Shawn Dou was also great at portraying the annoying and immature young master, Xiao Bei Chen. Even as his character grows, he was able to pull a 180 in portraying Xiao Bei Chen as man who became more responsible, mature, and charismatic in addition to the personalities that he already had.
By episode 5, the antics had already wore me out and I decided to drop this drama. I have to admit I am still curious as to how their romance progresses though. I just can't seem to tolerate watching Xiao Bei Chen's schemes towards Lin Hang Jin and how he later pursues her.

a predictable but lovable trope (I'm only on ep 10)
as someone who loves republic era cdramas, love in flames of war was bound to be on my watch list...the storyline though presictable (spoiled rich ML falling for stoic selfless FL adoptive acquaintance during war filled republic ch1na) its a lovable trope of mine...also, the fact that Shawn Dou is the ML sealed the deal for me...this man is just *fans-self*Shawn Dou: plays the role of spoiled rich fuxk boy Xiao Beichen...he has it all; money, prestige, education, and a beautifully handsome face that brings all the girls to their knees...
Chen Du Ling: plays the role of stoic, selfless, and loving Lin Hangjing...becoming a new member of the Xiao family due to her father's absence during the war, she becomes dotted on by the Xiao patriarch & matriarch, gains the jealousy of the young women, and the love of Beichen to later become a form of obsession for him.
a story about war, hatred, jealousy, misunderstandings, and above all, love.
im still on the early epiaodes but loving it so far...will post regular updated for my watch 😊

Must Watch! Recommended War & Love Drama

Highly recommend
Over all kisah drama ini campur aduk antara peperangan, kisah romantis antara Da Shao Ye dan gadis sederhana juga konflik cewek kedua yg dari kecil sdh di jodohkan dengan pemeran cowoknya. the best banget ini dramanya, oh ya terakhir ost nya juga enak terutama yg judulnya 画心Was this review helpful to you?
