Come on it started out with the lead Dok Mi basically spying on her hot neighbor across the way. She knew his schedule and planned her day around it. She even had scary big binoculars to do it. Not cheap fun ones, the real stuff. Bird watching stuff. Bird watching stuff used for a nefarious purposes.
It was a questionable start and I almost tossed in the towel. However, it was really funny. It didn't hurt that Dok Mi and Geum had some decent chemistry. Dok Mi's mental issues and troubled past fascinated me. I wanted to see her overcome the odds, and to rise up like a phoenix as she realized she could now control her life!
Sadly Dok Mi was not truly given a decent chance to do so during the drama. And when she did--and I was fist pumping her victory--confront the person who ruined her life she was smacked down. What the bleep!
That was the problem. Flower Boy Next door didn't know what it wanted to be. Then it tossed in some hot topic issues such as suicide, mental illness, bullying, and just . . . ugh! It was horrible. No lessons where learned and it felt so unsatisfactory. The guilty parties just kept going and being justified. A small tap on the hand when it should have been a sever hand slap. The "villains" should have dealt with some consequences.
It was funny I started this up for Park Shin Hye, I'm a fan, and I thought she'd be awesome as Dok Mi. But I didn't like the way the director lead her, I know she could have did so much better. (I type this as I'm currently watching Pinocchio.) What made me stick through this drama was newcomer (at the time) actress Kim Seul Gi. She played a deputy manager of a Contents-development team.
She was glorious and stole the entire show!! I Watched for her. I yearned for the storyline around her and took any thing I could get. (And it's safe to say she is now one of my favorite actresses.) I thank Flower Boy Next Door for introducing me to her. Thank you. Kim Seul Gi is hilarious and one of the best comedic females I've seen. She's laughable, loveable, and just all kinds of awesome.
Visually this was nice to look at and I enjoyed the fashion. The music was pretty enjoyable. I was singing and humming a lot. Sadly the story didn't hold up. It tried to be too much and tackle issues it didn't really want to tackle. Or tackled them poorly. There were surprising moments where I did love the romance and plenty of fun scenes. Dok Mi was an interesting lead, and while I didn't enjoy how she just took things and didn't get to rise up quite like I had in mind, she wasn't too badly realized. So that was something. The only reason I'm truly happy I watched this was to discover Kim Seul Gi.
Truth is though I dropped this drama in 2013 at episode 13 and didn't care to pick it up again until 2016. I only picked it back up because I had just 3 more episodes left. AND I didn't want to miss out on some good Kim Seul Gi scenes. PEOPLE KIM SEUL GI IS AMAZING!

all in all, the greatest strength of this movie was that, it has plot depth and heavy in center themes, which means that in the plot, you can clearly distinguish the initial action, climax, and denouement. It is heavy in center theme because the conflict that arises is clearly seen evolving alongside with each character development. Connections are clear. It was a good drama, refreshing, original, and seriously entertaining! (insert Enrique's smile! kyaaaa~~~~)

Acting/Cast: Everyone was spectacular in this drama. Kim Seul Gi, who plays the chief editor role, stole the show for me. She has a very loveable character and is pretty hilarious. The actors act the serious scenes really well and also act the funny scenes perfect.
Music: Ok, so JRabbit is plastered all over this drama. Which it shouldn't be a bad thing, but it was this time around. While she does have a beautiful voice, I got tired of hearing the same exact song for such a long period of time. Park shin hye would come on sometimes and sing her song. But I didn't really start hearing any difference in music until the later episodes.
Story/Overall: Ok let's end this thing. The story was pretty good. It wasn't anything spectacular but it also wasn't recycled (which is good). There is a WHOLE LOT of aegyo and super cute acting in this so, if that makes you mad, then you'll want to kill yourself at the end of this drama. The story starts off really good. They introduce a lot of characters who are all very different and come from all different places. I loved watching this drama at first. Although I loved the two mains, I still found myself attached to everyone else because it just felt like one big misfit family.
The story progresses really good, but only for about half the drama. It falls REALLY flat towards the end. I couldn't wait to finish it so I could just be done with it. It felt like the relationship between the two mains peaked too early. Like there was nothing left for them to do for like 4 episodes lol. And as I mentioned earlier, I loved the sub-cast, but the back-story for some of them was totally non-existent. Which made me really mad. In those 4 episodes where the leads weren't doing anything they could've really expanded upon the stories of the other characters so that you can really feel immersed in the drama. They all live in those cheap run down apartments. But why? What happened in their lives to make them all live close to poverty? Everyone has a unique story as to why they are at where they are at in life. And they do kind of explain for a lot of the characters, but some are left out. They have characters that appear in almost every episode that you just never know anything about lol. That was annoying. They could've developed the back story a little more to divert attention from the mains because the mains ran out of juice towards the end.
Rewatch value is low. Mainly because it's pretty boring maybe halfway through and towards the end. You'll be glad that it is finally finished.

Acting---The acting was good and crazy!I think Yoon Shi Yoon is master in such drama's because in every drama i watched from him, he was funny and sometimes even dummy!I love him for his craziness and i think he is that in real life too!The chemistry was there and i must say this is first drama where i saw such playfull romance...The love was showen in his acting of being funny..So i loved it the most..The free relationship they had...It's calming for me..No dramas just...love and overcoming the bad thing from past together...So...bravo*clapping*
Music----I love the music too...that's all i can say i think....*walking around awkwardly*what do you expect me to say?It was romantic fluffy and all that fit in!
Rewatch value----All time when u feel sad, down-mood,depressed,u broke up with someone(?)...etc.....It's just so amazing that it will make you laugh and u need laughter in ur life! You know i don't like spanish much since i'm being forced to learn it in school but..when i saw Yoon Shi Yoon talking funny spanish i swear something moved in me and i grabed the book and went to study! So yes always when i'm lazy i watch it!

I don't usually write reviews for dramas that I've dropped, but I feel like this might be helpful to some viewers...
This drama is NOT bad. Truly. It just moves very slowly and I've simply lost interest. There's literally not enough going on with very little change of scenery.
I really like Park Shin Hye and her character has potential, but I just don't care enough about the story to finish it. Her troubled past is the most interesting, but there's very little going on with it to keep me interested. Yoon Shi Yoon's character is kinda obnoxious and immature here, which is a turn off for me (he's played much better roles since this drama). That might be where my lack of interest comes from - I'm not really feeling the romance.
So anyways, I wouldn't dissuade someone from watching this nor encourage. It's one of those older dramas you can live without seeing, but if you're on an old-timey drama kick, it might hit the spot if you like a more immature male lead?

How could you. I am super sad
I am so disappointed in my eagerness to keep watching this drama to see Han tae joon and Go dok me together. From the beginning, I should have known that I wouldn't enjoy flower boy stuff. The details like the two friending each other, playing soccer at game cafe and etc was nice byt overall, It wasn't for me at all.Was this review helpful to you?
As for the acting I was a little worried at first because too often do I find dramas are filled with pretty people that can't act but both are excellent. The female lead is especially good she doesn't have many lines but her facial expression and body language are perfect at telling exactly what she's thinking or wanting to say. I also love the chemistry between the two leads. It's fantastic.
I would definitely recommend this drama.
