I'm writing this review for those who are confused whether to see it or not.
in this drama we have "Yoon Shi Yoon" who is a hypercute(!) actor and I could stand watching this just because of his great acting.

think more and edit:
I think I've been cruel somehow in this review... the advantage of this drama: it's about people who respect each other and respect each other's feelings, and people are really kind to each other except one person.

A bit boring.. not really bad..

I started rewatching this drama with my sis and am afraid that I felt an urge to edit my review of it ;-(

The story:

I loved the Story to a certain extent, loved how it discussed a type of social disturbances that's rarely featured in KDramas and also in a light and uncomplicated manner. I loved the fun and comical parts, felt moved by emotional parts so much that proves the story & the script were successful in a sense, BUT (here it comes) though the show has some highly interesting characters with unique backgrounds I still found some characters a bit under developed (like kkegeum's first love and do hwi) and hard to relate to, and unfortunately there were certain parts in the story that felt a bit draggy and unfocused with a bit of unnecessary sidelines that felt distracting.
To stretch a popular drama to fill 20 episodes when it should nicely fit in only 16 episodes is a mistake that a lot of KDrama producers fall into, all in the search for more viewers, it can easily ruin a very well written script. In the case we have here though, the story might have turned a bit boring near the end but I find the script and the directing paid out for some of that, so it didn't feel boring to the extent where you would consider dropping the show.

I enjoyed the direction a lot, loved the flashbacks and how you slowly discover the truth about different mysterious sides each character had.

I enjoyed above all the script, so many emotionally moving lines, so many sensationally touching lines that make you want to memorize them or note them down in your favorite quotes list.
And also this drama has by far the most heart-wringing love confessions you can ever hear!!

The cast:

I gave the cast a 9 which is fairly high by my standards cause I felt they did a great job (well most of them)

The OST was nice, repetitive as usual but nice.

Rewatch value! Hmm considering the fact that I changed my review to a lower rating proves that I should have just rewatched the cute and funny scenes instead of watching the whole thing.
This is not a bad drama, it has an interesting story and a talented cast with lovable side characters, but it should have been made shorter, to avoid becoming a bit boring near the end like it did.

Considering how I excited I was to have this, it took me about three times before I seriously considered doing a marathon. And instead of consenting to having my older sister skip to the end the second time around and no mom to scold me for my constant abuse of the fast forward button, I poured my boredom into giving it my full attention. Fueled by love for the song Like A Child and Yoon Shi Yoon (who ironically enough, was the same reason I discovered the song in the first place), I watched all 20 episodes.

And unlike what the initial episodes led me to believe, it was fun. It bothered me that they immediately cut off and resolved Enrique's issues with his so called first love from the get go,among other questionable things. Can't exactly compare it to the webtoon since I haven't read it but it felt rushed in some parts despite the enjoyable cast. I really wished Watanabe-san had more screentime though.

The romance is lighthearted for the lack of better word. The way Go Dok Mi (Park Shin hye) made faces that broadcasted her thoughts to Enrique Geum is hilarious. All in all, I love Yoon Shi Yoon's portrayal of the childish but lovable Enrique Geum who offends people on a daily basis and Park Shin hye for making me focus on the social recluse Dok Mi instead of her real life image. The supporting cast, from the overworked and sleep deprived editor to the apartment's security guard, also helped a lot in the decision to not drop this.

The music is fun, I especially love Romantic Punch's Ready Merry Go! since it suited the drama's overall atmosphere. Special mention to Lee Jung's Wish It Was You.

Rewatched value? For Enrique Geum, maybe a five. I just love this forever smiling self proclaimed genius.

Overall, Flower Boy Next Door is exactly what it says on the tin. Though unlike its predecessors, I prefer this particular Flower Boy drama the most.

I started this show because I wanted to see something cheerful and I had already heard about Yoon Shi Yoon doing the main lead as Enrique, a Korean Spanish guy who returns to Korea after living in Spain since he was a kid.
First, I'm from Spain, so I was interested in the story of a main lead who comes from my country, talks about the Clásico (the match between the Barcelona and the Real Madrid), about a our food, our music... Second, I saw Yoon Shi Yoon in Hit the top, and I liked him very much...I don't know why , but the way he acts remembers me  Yong Goo when he just started.
So... Positive things:
1. It's funny, I've liked Enrique a lot, with the exception of him talking in some weirdo Spanish (really, why couldn't they put somebody really speaking in Spanish?). He is supposed to have been living in Spain for more than 15 years, it's impossible he speaks soooo bad). But for the rest of the time, even if I'm aware he is kind of exaggerated, I loved his role.
2. The seconds leads are ok. I liked too the fact that although there's one lead who greeds for the girl, he's nice and there's no usual love triangle as in others k-dramas.
Negative things:
I'm sorry to say this, but I'm not a big fan of Park Shin Hye. Don't know why, but I have the feeling she has always done the same rol, as a crying baby who needs to be rescued. After some time it's kind of tiring. I don't say she is a bad actress, because I'm not, and she has a nice voice...but the three times I saw her (in You're beautiful, The heirs and this one) it was at I was watching the same drama, although with a different hairstyle.
I can't understand how a guy as cheerful as Enrique, so full of life, wouldn't get bored of her in 5 minutes.
There are more flaws in the story, and I can't say it's an amazing show, but it's ok to pass away the time.

Love, love, love this one

My rating is 10/10. This is a 2013 South Korean romantic comedy television series with 16, 40 minute, episodes. It is also know as "Cute Guys Next Door" and is based on a webtoon "I Steal Peaks At Him Every Day" by Yoo Hyun-sook based on the webtoon by Yoo Hyun-sook. Go Dok-mi has become agoraphobic after suffering from extreme bullying in high school. She rarely ventures out and her main "escape" is stealing peeks at her handsome neighbor in an apartment directly across from hers. Things change though when her "flower boy" neighbor has a visitor, his younger brother, Enrique Geum (Yoon Shi-yoon), who spent most of his time growing up in Spain. He catches Dok-mi spying on his brother Tae-joon ( and him Park Shin-hye as a lonely girl who never ventures outdoors, but is caught spying on her neighbor across the street by a different guy (Yoon Shi-yoon) Oh Jin-rak is a webtoon artist who lives right next door to Dok-mi and has observed her, and loved her, from afar. He wants her to stay just the way she is and protects her and her privacy. A Japanese visitor who desires to learn Korean cooking also moves in and all of the "flower boys" form a friendship. Once Enrique discovers the reason for Dok-mi's spying he becomes determined to draw her out in the world. Dok-mi becomes the center of attention for two very different men one who wants her to stay as she is and the other who wants her to explore what life has to offer.

Spoiler 🚨 Although I found a few things surprising and not really necessary I really loved this show. I thought, from reading descriptions, that this would be about Dok mi's love from afar of the "flower boy" she had been spying on. But the brother plays only a very minor role and actually leaves quite early in the series. The Japanese neighbor was also such a minor role that it seemed it could have been left out and you would not have noticed much difference. I found her behavior completely understandable as I know several people in my life that have withdrawn for similar reasons. I loved how persistent the men in her life were and how she changed and grew throughout the episodes. The romance was perfect and sweet and the friendships were also very heart warming. It is just a thoroughly enjoyable watch for anyone that loves romantic comedies. I am a huge fan of Park Shin-hye and I thought she played this role perfectly. I had never seen Yoon Shi-yoon in anything that I am aware of but I loved his character so much I will be looking for other things he may be in. I was surprised some rated this lower - maybe they have not experienced agoraphobia and did not find it believable. I am not sure. Because, for me, it had all of the elements needed for a great romance. I was cheering for the characters the whole way.

This is one of those shows that is driven by the characters. Enrique's character was exciting, lovable and had such a strong effect on the overall success of the show. Dok Mi's character was one I had never really seen before. It was similar to the 'shy girl' who is afraid to love and take big steps, but they really made it unique and compelling. These characters made me want to watch the show again and again and always had me clicking the next episode, even when I told myself I should have a break.

Downfalls of this drama was the fact that there was too many emotions at some points. I found that tears were shown on screen when they weren't needed, and I am a person who loves to see tears. Also a couple of the characters were just not to my liking, such as Do Hwi. I found her to be confusing at times and annoying. The biggest downfall I think is the fact that this show didn't have a big climax. Normally something happens between characters that lead them to stay apart and suffer, then come back together at the right moment and embrace the love. With Flower Boy Next Door it seemed like such a situation could have played out at many moments, but it never did. They fixed it within 5 minutes and they were in each others' arms again.

Things I loved was the comedy of this show. I found myself laughing out loud a lot and it contained a lot of joy. Once again the characters were very good. Normally I have a grudge against the 3rd man in a love triangle, but I enjoyed his character a lot and how his love for her was expressed.

Overall I think Flower Boy Next Door is such a great show, it left me laughing, crying and full of feelings by the end of the show. I couldn't stop watching it!

I started watching Flower Boy Next Door because a friend recommended it as it is one of her favourite dramas, and feels it's too underrated. Also, I quite like Park Shin Hye as an actress. I'm quite grateful for that friend for recommending me this, but I don't see why she finds it all that amazing. It has its good points, which are outweigh the negatives, but it's not "My Love From The Stars worthy" as she put it.

If you are friends with me on MDL and regularly check your feed, you'll know how my feelings have changed as I watched through the drama. After watching the first two episodes, I was addicted. It had such an amazing start, and it felt very refreshing and lighthearted. My revision for exams was even at risk because I wanted to continue watching. And not long after that, I had soon found my main ship (with my editor-roommate couple in close second). When I reached the half way point, I still wanted more, but the episodes started to lack luster - it wasn't as inviting as it began. Even later, I got bored during most of the episodes. Sure, it had it's emotional moments, but it started repeating itself and the cliche started rolling in. Unfortunately, Flower Boy Next Door is one of those dramas which has a brilliant start but a disappointing ending (I loved who she ended up with though).

Okay, so the acting was generally pretty okay. Yoon Shi Yoon was definitely the best actor there, he was so brilliant to watch. He was able to pull off every single scene, he did not disappoint. I am planning on watching Mirror of the Witch because of him. Kim Ji Hoon was also quite decent, but his emotions while acting wasn't very varied and he didn't show his best potential. And with Park Shin Hye, I can slightly understand why some people don't like her acting. She didn't show much expression, but I'm hoping that was because she was playing the role of an extreme introvert. I don't dislike Shin Hye though, because I loved her acting in Pinocchio.

Usually I have a favourite track from each drama, but I don't with Flower Boy Next Door. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the tracks are quite good, but none of them had any real impact on me.

I doubt I would watch this again because I would rather just watch all the scenes with Enrique and the editor-roommate couple. However, it is a good drama to rewatch if I want something cute.

Overall, the story gradually got worse as more episodes rolled out, the acting could have improved but wasn't the worst I've seen and the music needs more impact. But I would recommend to anyone who wants a cute romcom to watch in their own time.

Quirky and layered

This seemingly simple drama has some subtle layers that kept me interested.

Topics that are touched on - lightly because this is a comedy romance drama in that order;
how someone can create a lie and use their position and influence to cause harm,
betrayal by a friend can have serious long term effects,
not facing your fears can be debilitating,
fans can cause damage in social media.

Even though our FL has chosen to live in seclusion her thoughts are beautifully written and conveyed as inner dialogue.
The ML is almost the polar opposite to her and like a burst of summer sunshine he invades her life and heart.
There are some wonderfully lol moments and cuteness abounds.
Supporting cast are terrific too and the character development of both leads is believable. He used his smile and optimism to mask hurt and learns to be more realistic and she learns to stop hiding and confront or challenge what hurts her.

I liked Enrique's character so much I am checking out his other dramas.

I really want to put Enrique in my pocket and bring him home with me. I can take him out when people need emotional bandages.

In Short: Super cute and insightful. Dragged a little towards the end, but it was all worth it for these two sweeties. I will never forget that panda hat. The rest of the neighbours were great as well.

Pros: Enrique is like the male Gu Mi Ho. Honest, adorable and always means well. The premise is great, and I do like the heroine.

Cons: The plot dragged a little towards the end, with no real conflict. Could have been 12 great episodes.

I. E seriously this is the most underrated series i watched so far... Its true that so far it don't have that much cheesy pickup lines or overdramatic scenes where you will mesmerised by the acting extravaganza ... But it was real.. I really felt the acting... Its real. By theory both couples should give each other equally. But in realty its not possible... Nobody is perfect. I dont know why is underrated. Maybe because of the title.. I don't know. But for me its was good...

A lot of people has written some review that this is a typical pretty boy scheme drama. After some thoughts, I decide to write something in the defense of the drama (I'm not trying to say others opinion are wrong, but I just want to share my opinion that I quite enjoy the drama). From the title itself, you may have already some idea of how it would be. Yes, it's about a girl, living next to a couple of good-looking guys, but that's not the main plot of the story (If you compare to Hana Yori Dango, or Cinderella and 4 Knights, I think these dramas are more typical). The main lead is a girl who afraid to be in contact with other people and stay inside of her apartment all the time. The story is light and funny. It's not complex at all. It's more of a comedy romance. All the side characters are very funny (personally I like the editor). There aren't many romance scenes that make your heart beating. But If you really like comedy romance, this drama is for you.

I didn't really have high hopes for this drama to begin with, as I literally wanted a easy-to-watch romantic comedy to relax to during the half term before I return to school (it was called Flower Boys Next Door, for goodness sake), but BOY was I wrong. As others have probably mentioned before, this drama has a huge amount of depth to it, and addresses some pretty important issues, bullying being one of the more predominant ones.
I have a warning for those of you who are considering watching this: I was completely 100% fully, disgustingly addicted to this drama, and I just could not stop watching it. I started episode 1 at 8PM, and the next thing I knew, I looked at my clock and it was 3AM. I was horrified and going borderline insane, but most of all, I was elated and FREAKING out because the confessions were starting and I declared Dok Mi and Enrique as my shiny new OTP.
I loved every character and I became emotionally invested in the panda Webtoon boss, as well as Watanabe because he was fine. #TeamWata! Also I quietly shipped Watanabe and Enrique alone in the corner.
I may rewatch this drama again in the distant future: it was funny and endearing and it had YSY (who was amazingly casted btw), and also the soundtrack was top notch.
