Zhinu becomes ZangHai

I don't give 10 only because I would have liked to witness more of Zhinu's life with his Masters... But everything in this one is top tier. The atmosphere in the secluded school, the details of the scenes, the lightning, direction, and of course acting are so incredibly high level. Xiao Zhan makes his entry and the revenge mechanism is about to start. Zhinu/ZangHai's silent farewell to his Masters and his childhood is very moving, that little smile hid a lot of heartache.

10 years later: The path of revenge from Zhi Nu to Zang Hai

Zhi Nu, who waited 10 years to take revenge, will now seek revenge with his new identity as Zang Hai. The lessons that the 2 masters and the female master taught to help take revenge were extremely good. The lessons on hiding emotions that the female master taught were extremely good (I wish I could hide my emotions so perfectly 😭😭😭😭) The part that I'm most curious about is the masked person. I wonder if he is really helping Zang Hai to take revenge or if he has a vested interest. Zang Hai said it well in the last scene

Взросление героя

Очень тяжело с детства дить с мыслью о мести. Актёры потрясающие, абсолютно все. Я даже не знаю как описать прекрасное взаимодействие между ними.

Zhinu to Zanghai

Episode 2 of Legend of Zanghai Zhuan continues to deepen the emotional resonance of the series by focusing on Zanghai’s formative years following the tragic fall of his family. After surviving the massacre by hiding in a tunnel, young Zanghai is taken in and begins a long, disciplined journey of survival and training. This episode carefully maps his transformation from a child into a skilled and determined young man, driven by the silent promise to take revenge. As time passes, the episode transitions seamlessly into the adult Zanghai, portrayed by Xiao Zhan, marking his full emergence into the story. Xiao Zhan enters not with grand flair, but with an intense quietude that commands attention. His portrayal is grounded, with subtle expressions and restrained energy that reflect a life shaped by pain, discipline, and purpose. His eyes communicate volumes especially when he prepares for his journey to the capital. These moments emphasize Zanghai’s introspective nature and his readiness to face what lies ahead. The episode closes with Zanghai setting out for the capital, a significant narrative shift signaling that the story is now moving from survival into confrontation. With its strong emotional foundation, elegant transitions, and Xiao Zhan’s powerful yet understated debut as the adult Zanghai, Episode 2 solidifies the show’s strength in character development and atmospheric storytelling.

Zang Hai is born

The boy finds himself on a boat with a masked man. He is encouraged to cry and then talk. After a good cry he chats with his new benefactor. He finds out his father had made plans to get them out of the city but was interrupted by the Marquis of Pingjin. He is asked how he would like to live with or without vengeance. The young boy chooses vengeance and is taken to a new location where he can be trained for the next ten years. He is immediately changed with cosmetic surgery and his fingerprints were altered or removed. He is told the changes are slight but that it will completely alter his appearance so that no resemblance to his parents remains. He finds himself in a barricaded room where he is challenged to use the poem his father taught him to escape the wooden puzzle locking him in. It takes him three days but he masters the hexagon that will grant him freedom. His lessons continue so that he is knowledgeable in construction and geomancy like his father was. When he hits twenty he is given further instructions in how not to be seduced. He learns to bottle the hate in his heart where it cannot be seen and to let his outer expressions present what people expect, but not necessarily his real emotions. After passing half of that test his benefactor comes back with a puzzle. He is asked questions while unlocking it. He told exactly how many tiles were in two different locations and gave exact recall of what happened to his friend and family even after all these years. He is shown the drawing of the Marquis and recall in detail the vengeance he still has. He is told with the dowager ill that there is a rare opportunity to get close to the household even tho he has not completed his training. He is given a new identity and what his training specializes in. He is shown drawings of those closest to Marquis and recalls what each did the night of the massacre. I am thinking the second son is the one he and friends captured to find out information. I find myself annoyed that a jealous coworker helped cause this for his ‘friend’s’ job. He accepts the challenge and believes the kinder mentor is going to accompany him. He finds out again not to be deceived by kindness. He is called by his name and his response is who is that? My name is Zang Hai. Another eventful episode.

The transformation of the child star from…

The transformation of the child star from before and after the facial surgery. The casting director did a great job in casting these 2 kids. The second child star with his bigger eyes, taller nose and dimples matches so well with Xiao Zhan. The mannerism and acting of both child stars matches perfectly with Xiao Zhan.

Kids grow up fast!

After the brutal family massacre in Ep 1, Zhinu is scooped up by a mysterious masked dude who’s like, “Wanna get revenge? Cool, but let's give you a facial surgery first.” Yep, they literally alter the kid’s face and fingerprints to make him unrecognizable. Low-key genius move, IMO.
The training bits are wild. The kid gets imprisoned in a wooden puzzle cage for three days without food, pushed to solve the riddle in order to escape. He's using his dad’s old poetry lessons for the purpose. Imagine being 10 years old and your homework is “solve this ancient lock or starve” 💀. But he nails it, proving he’s got that big-brain energy early on.
Then blink, and Xiao Zhan shows up! The episode does a smooth time-jump to adult Zang Hai, and Xiao Zhan’s debut in the drama is all about quiet intensity. No flashy heroics, just a guy with a lot of bottled-up rage and a killer side-eye.
Oh, and the masked mentor? Still sus. He’s got this whole “I’m-helping-you-but-maybe-I’m-evil” vibe. Also, props to the casting team, the kid actor actually looks like a mini Xiao Zhan. Those matching mannerisms were Chef’s kiss!
In this second episode, the feels hit different. The episode doesn’t shy away from showing how trauma shapes Zang Hai. Like, they literally teach him to bottle his hate and smile through the pain.
The production still slaying. The moody lighting and eerie OST (sad flute meets horror movie whispers) keep the tension high. The training scenes aren’t kung fu, it’s geomancy, construction skills, and how to not getting seduced (nice priorities).
Totally hooked!

Pen is Mightier Than the Sword

This episode was just a summary of what happened to Zang Hai once he was found by his savior. The guy in the mask does have me questioning what his reasons are. I have watched enough dramas to know that anyone in a mask always ends up to become a villain (I do hope that isn't the case for this time). I think the part of him learning crafts was straight and to the point AND it made sense. They didn't teach him kung fu because clearly his enemy has the power, money and experience. No amount of time will allow him to catch him through strength alone. He needs to be smarter than him and that is his only way. The pen is mightier than the sword after all. And the "plastic surgery" part also made sense because the entire time I was thinking no way his enemy won't be able to tell that he is the son of the man he killed 10 years ago - they are going to look very much similar.

made me want more

could have explored this period a bit more, loved the teacher-student dynamic and learned skills wanted more of it but probably planning to milk that in future episodes.the 2 episodes worked in tandem to set up the setting and now we are off to the races.

Todo se va armando

Mientras va avanzando la trama, más preguntas tengo, como quien es su benefactor.Me gusta la relación que Zang Hai tiene con sus maestros, espero saber más de ellos en el futuro.
