Sixteen Shoukougun

Both are using this technique where characters are talking in front a camera, a nice technique to show where these characters are coming from. Sixteen and River's edge are both teen angst driven, the latter is just more messy, has older set of characters, and better acted.

Childhood friends Sakura, Mita, Suzu, and Mino are now twenty-five years old. Although each has gone down a different path in life, they remain bound by the same unwavering friendship. However, when Suzu and Mino announce that they are getting married, cracks gradually begin to form in the relationship among the four.

As years of accumulated lies and secrets come to light one after another, their friendship is torn apart and their love becomes increasingly twisted.

Both titles feature multiple mains, angst-ridden youths with personal struggles that they need to work through as they come of age. Excellent young cast and slow-burn, somewhat poetic direction.
