Disappointed with this drama in both acting, story, and production

I was truly disappointed with this drama after seeing how people talked about it and was so overly highly rated due to BL nature. After watching the untamed, I thought they will produce a similar or better quality BL drama but it is the opposite. I didn't like the acting nor the chemistry of the leads. The ghost clan chief (one of the male lead) is way too overacting and forced. He is too annoying and getting on my nerve. the other male lead is not too bad as his character is supposed to be odd, cold and stone faced. I lost interest after watching the first 5 episodes and drop this drama to watch other films. Came back again to give it another chance, after watching episodes 12. So far, I am very disappointed with the story, acting, background setting, etc. It looks like a low budget film as the overall production is nothing to boast about. I was hoping the actors will be better in acting as they both had been in the business for awhile and had acting/drama educational background.

comments on the ending

🔆: just having seen the epilogue I think I can fairly see that my imagined ending reflects this and my disappointed review should be read in this mind as referring up to episode 36〜 I feel they could have included this ending somehow with the main final episode at same time though which would have made the series ending much more satisfying: still I am glad they made this epilogue though it could have been longer and shown more of how they came together again and their life together afterwards✳️✳️

This review is only about the ending〜 I hardly know where to begin in reviewing the whole superlative drama〜 as it was for me!〜 especially how it captured the relationship of the two men (especially using your own imagination)in spite of the restrictions within which the producer had to work。 I have put off watching the last episode for some days as I did not want it to end.。The last episode very neatly resolved the various strands of the plot though the endings are rarely totally satisfying。 It was not exactly unexpected in terms of the ”quest” being an anticlimax like many similar stories or Cheng Ling as an adult being the ”heir” of the heroes、although the specific manner of the ending for Zhou Zi Zhu and Wen Ke Xing was unexpected。Of course I was very disappointed particularly as the closing song always promised they would be together for ever! The ideal of self-sacrifice is very noble but does not Wen consider it would be even more painful for Zhou to recover only to find Wen was no longer alive for him?? I suppose all you can say is that if Wen did not use the Six Combined Cultivation method it would be a case of him losing Zhou eventually 。Of course I hoped ーas seemingly promised at earlier points in the storyーZhou could be healed and they could both live together away from the pains of the World〜however I see them united in spirit in the Afterlife and maybe Wen even present in spirit with Zhou in this life and eventually coming together again as soulmates in a new incarnation〜for me however the ending of 「The Untamed」 was much better and happier although I found the relationship between the two during 「Word of Honor 」closer and more appealing to me than 「The Untamed」〜 but now with the epilogue 「Word of honor」 and 「Untamed」 are my joint favorites but I still feel the Word of honor better at suggesting same sex relationship as in original novel🔆🔆

Phenomenal acting!

Phenomenal drama! The 2 main male leads have more chemistry than any other drama I’ve seen. Zhang Zhe Han (Zhou Zi Shu) and Gong Jun (Wen Ke Xing) were fire in every scene. So much passion. Loved them!
And I hope to see Li Dai Kun (Scorpion King) in main lead roles in the future. He was phenomenal as a supporting character but he is definitely worthy of a main lead role. I can see why he took this particular role. Though it was smaller role it required a certain depth and talent. His character took me on an inner emotional roller coaster I wasn’t ready for. I could feel a back story from his acting that was not presented or written in the story and that takes true talent. He was phenomenal and so were the rest of the cast!
The scenery was another treat! Like something you find in dreams. Absolutely breathtaking!
Highly recommend this drama!

Masterpiece, Genius Story & Revolutionary

Wow! I just finished watching this series.
I watched Gong Jun in Legend of Anle with Dilraba. (You guessed it right, I watched Legend of Anle because of Dilraba. But I’m very curious about Gong Jun whom I never heard off - played the boring character, Prince Han Ye quite well).
First, I was a bit reluctant to watch this drama. Although, it’s recommended to watch, I’m not fond of BL genre. However, this drama is not a BL or romance drama. It’s about soulmates and brotherhood. Some scenes between the 2 ML are daring but not over the line. Still acceptable for me to continue watching.

Story - The scriptwriter is a genius! The plot is masterpiece - unpredictable & surprising. Only ep. 24&25 are boring but luckily the plot pick-up again until the end. The words used by actors are spot on. Characters’ development are progressing good even for minor character that I have forgotten at the beginning of the drama. I like that as a viewer, I also have questions about the plot, and the conversation between the characters put that questions in acting. Very well-done. I thought I live in the drama itself.

Scenes - Excellent! This drama did not suffers excessive CG effects. Good to see natural light scenes. The director is doing a great job to connect the scenes beautifully. I love all the fighting scenes - intriguing.

Acting/Cast - Gong Jun plays Wen Ke Xing extremely well. I described the character as: mysterious, cunning, elegance, manly yet sissy. Confused? Me too. I applaud Gong Jun to be able to deliver dual personality & when I watched Gong Jun expressions, I can’t predict what Wen Ke Xing will do next or think because Gong Jun is really good at making ambiguous expression (like I don’t know he will turn left or right or go straight unless the dialogue & action shows that). How can he become so sissy yet very manly ?- good job Gong Jun.
Zhang Ze Han also plays the Zhao Zhishu cooly. Heartless leader and the he went through character development that progress well.
Other supporting roles are doing good but some can be improved like Cao Weining & Gao Xiaolian.

Music - the OST from Liu Yuning fits the drama really well.

No spoilers. You should watch it. Great that I didn’t let the BL reviews stopping me from watching it. Good job to the production & cast of this drama. Whoever casts Gong Jun & Zhang Ze Han has great eye for talents.

The Untamed Re-Mastered

I don't know where to begin with this master piece. The plot/storyline is a good start I suppose... I didn't look much into the details cause I wanted a bit of a surprise with this series and I believe I got a very good surprise. There's a good amount of twists and turns with a few AH-HA! moments. If you're a fan of The Untamed, this is basically the Re-Mastered version. lol This is right on the edge of Bromance and BL. There were a lot of cute and fluffy romantic moments between the MCs that can technically pass as Bromance. There were visuals all around (male and female) and the costumes were on point! My ONLY flaw with this is the graphics...if you can get past that then you're set for an amazing ride of emotion, thrills and beauty.
Enjoy...

Love it.

Considering Youku intentionally sabotage the show in limiting the number of episodes released per week so that it wouldn't be too popular so that the entire series can be broadcasted, that alone deserve a 10 out of 10.

There were flaws with the story and closer to the end felt rushed, but the two leads' chemistry what made WOH so special. The supporting characters were great.

Now that every episode is shown, I will binge-watch it. It would have made more sense than watching 3 episodes per week and waiting for it. It took away the rhythm and the beauty of the show.

Best BL drama I've watched so far

Word of Honour follows the story of Zhou Zishu, ex-assassin who just wants to live out the rest of his days wild and free, and Wen Kexing, leader of the Ghost Valley with a dark past.

This show was made on a tight budget, so I can excuse the reusing of the same five sets and the average CGI. It makes up for these minor details in its plot, character development and costumes. Character development, in particular, is really well done in this show. The show is definitely not black and white, nothing is ever just good or evil. Even the antagonists, you see their point of view and understand why they made the choices they did. Do you feel sorry for them? Yes (except for Zhao Jing). And the costumes are just amazing. They are so well made and beautiful. I'm glad the team spent money and effort into the costumes for each character. The team may have had to cut back on other aspects of the production, but I am glad they didn't reduce the budget for the costumes.

I absolutely loved the relationship between the two male leads. Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun have really good chemistry and it shows on screen. You can see that their two characters really care for each other and are willing to sacrifice the world for each other. There's a lot more physical contact and flirting than I expected to see for a Chinese BL, but it still leaves the audience clues to fill in the gaps for the more subtle hints of romance. The acting is great - from the delivery, facial expressions and body language, the depth of their relationship is really touching to watch.

Since this show set in the wuxia world, it is a captivating show for many people. I totally recommend this show.

BEST BL DRAMA I HAVE EVER SEEN !!! Watching again after just finished!

10/10 why?

Surprisingly I have started this series a year ago when it appeared, but for some reason I dropped it after the 1st episode. Lesson learned to always give a chance to the series that may have no logic or seem not interesting at the beginning.

One year later, by accident, I start again and I had like a deja vu while watching, then I remember I have actually started it a year ago, but this time I wanted to give it a chance.

Firstly, I want to comment on the score that it has here. I am quite disappointed after watching it to see so many bad reviews. People compare it to The Untamed. I understand the hype for The Untamed, but objectively speaking Word of Honor is way better.
My point is, and I haven’t seen this in any other drama, bl or fantasy etc. The dialogue was so beautifully created. I have stopped and rewatched many of the scenes only for the dialogue and I have also written down some quotes. You can feel the chemistry, love and affection only, and only by reading the dialogue while is composed mostly of classic sayings and poems from different dynasties.

Secondly, the chemistry and beauty of the two male leads is breathtaking. There are no kisses obviously because of the censorship. But there are a lot of glances, hugs, touches, flirting and many more.

I loved their every interaction and how beautifully their story grew from two people who were nothing to two people who would risk and give their life for each other.

There were a few scenes that I have recorded on my phone and I have been rewatching them for 100 times and I am not joking.

The special scene where Lao Wen was drunk in the room and Ah Xu came, Lao Wen looked at him a little confused when he felt his hand touched by Ah Xu and looked at him with desire and admiration…that scene is sooooo powerful!

Or the one when they called each other’s name three times!

- "I just feel that to be alive, to have the sun shining, and to have someone for me to call is so good."

Or when Lao Wen was again drunk and he hugged Ah Xu…

- The world is not important, what's important is finding a soulmate

I can say for sure that I have never felt so obsessed with a drama the way I am still with this one. I rewatched the episode over and over, the BTS and I still feel emptiness after it finished, like I would never be able to find a drama as better as this one.

Gong Jun and ZhangZheHan were perfect for each other, I can say for sure now is not easy for me to see them play with others.

Watching the BTS also makes me wanna thank ZhangZheHan for putting so much effort into his acting and even in directing some of the sugar scenes, to the director, crew, scenarist and everyone who was involved. Also a big shot out to Gong Jun who portrayed We Ke Xing so well!

Guys, this drama will be life changing for your if you like romance, deep meaning, if you are emotional.

ready to lose my memory to watch this all over again

I honestly don't know how to even start expressing how this drama made me feel. i went into watching WOH with no expectation , the only thing I knew was this was a censored LGBTQ+ drama from China.
But I was hooked the moment I saw Zhao Zishu (Zhang Zhe Han) and the way he carried the character was just so perfect, he made sure that we knew that he is the most powerful general under Prince Jin. And then came in the character Wen Kexing (Gong Jun) if a person could ever steal my heart that will be Wen Kexing.
The plot was exquisite, like i said in my headline " i am literally really to lose my memory to rewatch this again " it might seem a little slow paced in the beginning but it was good enough to get me hooked to it.
The plot reminded me much of Romeo and Juliet ( spoilers ahead )
In Romeo and Juliet , we know that Juliet faked her death to by drinking a fake poison given to her by a wise advisor just like Wen Kexing faked his dearth by falling of the cliff with the help of Ye Bai Yi (Huang You Ming) and then comes Romeo not knowing about this plan too actually killing himself by drinking poison and this last word being "Here's to my love! O true apothecary! Thy drugs are quick." and in the series we know that Zhao Zishu removes the Nails of Seven Apertures for Three Autumns which caused him to die sooner and his words before removing the nails being "the world is not important but my soulmate is, since my soulmate is gone , what do i have to care about", and then when Juliet wakes up from her fake death she realizes that Romeo is dead and then decides to kill herself with Romeo's dagger, so here is where i noticed the change in the drama cause as we know Wen Kexing found out that Zhao Zishu is dying so he lied to Zhao Zishu about how exactly the combined six cultivation methos is gonna work , Zhao Zishu thought that both will be turning into immortals together but that was much further away from the truth, so then we found out that Wen Kexing gives his soul(m not really sure what that's called) into Zhao Zishus body making only him into an immortal which cause wen Kexing to die . But then of course there was ep 37 where we see both of them living happily in the mountains.
These were my main thoughts on the drama .
I can never forget the side couple Gu Xiang (Zhou Ye) and Cao WeiNing (Asher Ma) if I say their death didn't cause me pain i would be lying, they deserved to be happy after all they have been through but ya I guess that how they were supposed to end.
when it comes to the dramas production it is very noticeable that it was a low budget but I guess the acting made up for that not gonna lie certain scenes and shots ever funny but I'm gonna let it slide.
The MUSIC is just another master piece just so beautiful in every way possible I have been listening to all of them on repeat nowadays.
Rewatch value for word of honor : EVERYDAY and I mean it literally if I had a choice.

Literally the most AMAZING Chinese Historical Martial Arts Drama ever made!!!

THE BEST CHINESE BL HISTORICAL DRAMA EVER!!! I wish I could give it 100000000 stars!!

First off, YOU MUST WATCH THE MINI EPILOGUE EPISODE (find it on Reddit!). I watched this drama and finished it in two days on Netflix and CRIED thinking that was the ending but then i found that mini episode 37 and the whole world felt peaceful once again aha

Second off, HOW IN THE I STILL CANT FKN BELIEVE IT did this drama past China's strict censorship? I'll tell you how... with genius scriptwriters, directors and talented actors, that's how! Everything about this drama was perfect, especially the fight scenes. I was mesmerized by each fight scene, it was like nothing I've ever seen before! I wish there were more dramas with such amazing cinematography and martial arts fight scenes!

I loved both the MC and ML, they are so talented and this drama was just everything I could ever imagine! Makes me want to read the novel now. I wish there was a season 2, but I don't think they'd be able to escape the strict censorship nowadays aha

This drama has everything: Romance, angst, revenge, deep bonds between characters, and every other good thing you could possibly imagine.

Obviously, even though the novel is a BL, this drama adaptation could not be BL because of China's censorship rules. BUT they did an excellent job in depicting the love between the MC and ML. Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing could communicate their love through silent actions such as their eye contact, the concern they show for each other, the sacrifices they are willing to make in order to save the other person, it was beautiful. I wish I could find more dramas like this one, please let me know if you know of any dramas similar to WOH!

Most progressive BL from Mainland China- took the country by storm

To keep it short this is a beautiful BL adaptation with good chemistry and pacing. In addition, it's also the most progressive BL to pass mainland censorship. The directors and designers are extremely talented to produce a high-quality drama from a low budget and in addition, the lead actors are very dedicated to their roles. The costumes are especially beautiful and the OST are very good including songs by Zhang Zhehan (Lead) and Liu Yuning
DON'T FORGET !! to watch the special episode 37 (real ending), special scenes (contains deleted scenes), and also look up the original lines (some were dubbed over to pass censorship) so that you can get the full image of what the crew and actors wanted the drama to portray.
