Disappointed...I Really Am

I am now developing PTSD from dramas that have all the markings of an "epic 10/10 unforgettable" drama but which end up falling way off the mark.

So here's the thing, this drama got so much hype when it was airing, has such a fabulous cast lineup, beautiful cinematography, and then has an intriguing storyline that's original (not watched any other Asian drama with Doom and a Deity as actual characters) ....and for the first few episodes, I was stoked.

And then somewhere in the middle ...the bubble burst! And this drama went from a potential 10 to a yikes!

I have trouble explaining how...or why. But the magic between the 2 main characters just faded, there were dozens of missed opportunities to have built up the romance burn, the heartbreak of the story etc, it wasn't really the acting, maybe the directing? I can't put my finger on it. It just lost its lustre.

But do not despair because somewhere along the way, Lee Soo Hyuk who is the Second Male Lead swooped in and stole the whole damn show. And for that plotline, that character, that voice, that intensity, this show was all worth it. Someone give that man his own drama, says the newest Lee Soo Hyuk fangirl.

went from high to lowwww

I enjoyed the first few episodes and the story seemed promising and different, but I quickly got bored.

I don't think I've ever watched a drama with so many filler scenes (scenes that add nothing to the overall story), alot of talking about nothing and mediocre character building

I didn't feel much chemistry between the Leads so it was hard to root for them. And don't get me started on the 2nd lead story - at a point I disliked all 3 of them.

Whilst this is meant to be a heartfelt story I feel it severely missed the boat.
Maybe would have been great if it was 8-12 episodes.

overall it was a snooze, but I pushed through so I could give a fair review.

some people seem to like it though, so this is just my opinion. :)

I'm sorry
I think I'm going to be the black sheep again for the limitless time in a famous high rated drama

The story was poor
The plot was absent
The romance was lame
But I've to admit it was comedy and smooth to watch
May be that's why I rated it 5.5 not less

And I liked seo in guk acting for the first time after hating him literally in king Louis shopping

The main story literally have no events till EP 11
Same events during the drama
So if this drama was 11 or 12 episodes I think it will became much better

In short summary
A woman wished to destroy the world after being Diagnosed with a terminal illness and the angel of death heard her and make a bargain with her so he can die then they fall in love together and he sacrifices himself to save her

Not a remarkable story which can make you watch over and over again
BTW : it had happy ending
She was cured and He turned to be human and they lived together happily ever after

But inspite of that Something huge was missing although the story was solid

I was interested more in the second couple but they didn't appear much and their story was so lame and became annoying
I've to tell it was new to make the love triangle in the second couple
But the second FL lead's position towards both men was really annoying and fluid till the end inspite of choosing Soo hyuk

For me just one watch drama

Doom at Your Service: A Melancholic Exploration of Life and Love

Doom at Your Service is a South Korean fantasy romance drama that tackles profound themes of life, death, and love. While the show boasts a unique concept and strong performances, its slow-burn pacing and unconventional narrative might not appeal to everyone.

A Face-to-Face with Destruction Himself: Tak Dong-kyung, diagnosed with a terminal illness, makes a desperate wish for the world's destruction. However, her wish manifests in the form of Myul Mang, a supernatural entity who embodies doom and destruction. As Dong-kyung spends her remaining days with Myul Mang, an unexpected romance blossoms, forcing them to confront their own vulnerabilities and the meaning of existence.

A Slow-Burn Exploration of Emotions: Unlike fast-paced K-dramas with high-stakes plotlines, Doom at Your Service prioritizes character development and emotional exploration. The show takes its time delving into the complexities of grief, acceptance, and the fleeting nature of life. This slow-burn approach allows viewers to truly connect with the characters' emotional journeys, but it might feel uneventful for viewers seeking a more action-packed narrative.

Beautifully Portrayed Performances: Park Bo-young delivers a poignant performance as Dong-kyung, capturing her character's strength and vulnerability in the face of her own mortality. Seo In-guk portrays Myul Mang with a captivating blend of stoicism and emotional awakening. The supporting cast adds depth and intrigue to the narrative, further enriching the emotional tapestry of the show.

A Thought-Provoking yet Uneven Experience: Doom at Your Service is a show that will stay with you long after the credits roll. It prompts viewers to contemplate the preciousness of life, the power of human connection, and the acceptance of fate. However, its slow-burn pacing and unconventional narrative may not resonate with everyone, particularly those seeking a more light-hearted or fast-paced drama.

A Must-Watch for Fans of Melancholic Romances: If you're looking for a thought-provoking and emotionally rich K-drama that explores profound themes of life and love, Doom at Your Service is worth checking out. However, be prepared for a slow-burn narrative that prioritizes character development and emotional exploration over high-stakes plotlines.

Love this!!!

I was first introduced to this through kdrama meme videos on YouTube. I also watched clips of funny moments before actually watching the drama. I kind of paused watching kdramas fully for more than a year so I was happy to have this be my first kdrama back into the fandom. I started at night and watched it in one sitting!

I'm someone who actually doesn't mind spoilers before I watch something, because it's faster than wasting 16 hours on something I won't like in the end. But I didn't know how this story would end, or that it would be more serious than the clips I watched of it showed me.

Still I loved this drama. Sappy/sad scenes made me cry, romantic scenes made me swoon and cute scenes between the characters made me aw. I love everything about the male lead!!! I do wish we got more badass scenes of him because I found myself repeating them. Seo In Guk's facial expressions and how he delivers his lines has always been amazing since the first drama I watched him in so I knew he wouldn't disappoint, and Park Bo Young was cute as always!

I loved how things progressed between them, theirs was a love story that could not have been rushed. I even loved the secondary love triangle. The second male lead is good looking, and has a deep voice and sarcastic humor so I was bound to love him. The other guy in the triangle looked a lot like GOT7's Jackson that I found myself staring at him whenever he smiled. I loved the interactions between the entire cast.

After checking out the reviews I was surprised at all the low ratings. Maybe people expected more from this story than what it is, but it has some fantasy, a romance, and a terminal illness so I got exactly what I expected and more. I don't even know how to explain it well other than I just love it.

I'd encourage anyone interested to give it a try and see for themselves.

Doom is a new favorite anti hero (along the lines of Deadpool)

8.5/10 is my rating. This is a 2021 South Korean Fantasy Romance with 16, 60 Minute Episodes.

Tak Dong-kyung (Park Bo-young) was orphaned at an early age and has come to expect relatively little of life. She has one incredibly bad day where she learns that the man she has been dating is not only married but has a baby on the way, she has a negative encounter with her CEO at work who is a self absorbed megalomaniac, and if that isn't enough she finds out she is dying form inoperable brain tumors. It's enough to drive anyone to drink and she does just that and, in the heat of the moment, she shouts at the heavens on a shooting star that she wishes doom on the world. Myul Mang (Seo In-guk), lives among humans for the sole purpose of spreading doom wherever he goes. When Dong-kyung shouts her message of doom, Doom responds. It is, after all, his birthday and he is allowed to fulfill one human wish. He is not a fan of being doom, but fulfilling Dong-Kyung's wish would be a quick way to end it all. Fate has had a role in making the two meet. As they grow closer each of their fates seem far too cruel. Can love find a way for a doomed girl and doom himself?

Spoiler Alert*** I really loved this drama. Seo In-guk's portrayal of Doom was spot on. I really cannot imagine anyone else playing that part to the level that he did. One of my favorite tropes is the handsome, arrogant, god so this premise was right up my alley. Park Bo-young who played Tak Dong Kyung was such a sassy and smart counter to Doom that their interactions were always so much fun to watch. it took me awhile to realize she was from "Strong Girl Bong Soon" as she looks so much different with darker longer hair. I loved all of the side characters as well. Dawon's portrayal of her younger brother, Tak Sun Kyung was perfect. He loved his sister so much and when he find out what all was going on with her he went from being the spoiled younger brother to someone that wanted to take care of the person who had shown him so much love and caring his whole life. He showed a lot of character development. His interactions with his sister's romantic interests reminded me so much of my own brother. I know that is also part of the traditional male family member role but it was still adorable. Cha joo-ik (Lee soo-hyuk) was a character that seemed so cold and impersonal but really was a very caring and charismatic person. I loved his portrayal of Gwi in the "Scholar Who Walks the Night" and find that he brings a very deep, intricate persona to the characters he plays. There were sad moments with Dong Kyung's terminal illness, but the majority of the show was very entertaining and funny. It was intriguing that God/Sonyeoshin (Ji So-jung) was a young Korean female with a terminal illness and there was a lot of very deep meaning in both her actions and words. I found it important to analyze the symbolic nature of her garden and the plants and explore alternative meanings to the things she said. I did not find the Uncle Kevin (Daniel C. Kennedy) character to be necessary, in fact the episodes with that character in them tended to break the 4th wall for me as it just did not blend in well so it really took me out of the moment. I think the fact that he only spoke English and those around spoke Korean - it made it like there was a language barrier and made it hard to understand the depth of the relationships and intensity of conversations when, at times it seemed like he understood Korean, and at other times it was obvious he did not. Those scenes could have easily been left out without changing the flow of the story. What dropped this from a perfect 10 for me was the ending. It feels somewhat hypocritical to comment that there was too much after they were reunited but, in this case, there really was. It is such a fine balance I find between ending something abruptly and dragging it out so much that the after story seems pointless. It breaks the magic a bit to see them just going about their every day lives. I could have done with episode 15 plus maybe 15 minutes to tie up all the loose ends. A very picky point. I highly recommend this series and would watch it again. But it is not my very top because of the minor flaws that don't mean much on their own but do stack up to lessen the enjoyment just a bit.

Fabulous second couple

I think the first thing that stood out to me about this one was that all the characters are really well-written and intertwined. It's common to see the SFL and SML be the best friends of the leads, but this wasn't the case — we had the SFL being leads with the FL, the SML being coworkers with the FL, the seconds leads having their own history, etc. It was just really impressive how every character had a backstory and a purpose to service in the plot beyond becoming a couple. It wasn't just throwing two random friends together; the stories felt really cohesive.

While I do enjoy the story of the leads, I think it did get a little repetitive, probably because it moved too fast at the start. I would've preferred if the leads spent more time together before diving into the "I love you's," and maybe they could've done mini-cases where we explored Myul-mang (Doom) and what his day-to-day work is usually like. It would've given us more insight into his psyche and history. Instead, I feel like the characters got together really fast, and then their plots became recycled versions of "Person A leaves, Person B is sad, and then either Person A regrets it and runs back or Person B finds them and there's a touching reunion scene." It's a common trope in kdramas but I feel like we saw some version of this every episode, for half the drama.

On the other hand, I actually think the story of the second leads was extremely well-written, and they ended up as my favorite part of the drama, even if they were a lot more grounded and had no fantasy aspect at all. Despite their limited screentime, I think the development was paced well and was really convincing, and I loved the message behind that romance. It helped, like I said, that both of these characters felt like real people who had depth beyond their romantic subplot.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. I'm not sure how memorable it will be for me, but I understand why it is for lovers.

Honestly I would just like to say give it try just watch all of episode 1 and trust me you’ll get into it. This drama by far is in my top 3 like I’ve rewatched this at least 4 times already. I started watching this drama when episode 3 had just came out and it wasn’t even in my tbw list so that’s saying a lot already. I’ve gotten so many people that don’t normally watch kdramas or this genre in general and they've loved it binged watched it. Absolutely in love with the plot and the actors are hot. WATCH IT PLS but just a warning last couple of episodes had me in shambles🥲 so get your tissue box!!

Also, for the people that have watched it what dose his hair changing colors mean or am i just tripping?? Personal I felt like it had to do with his emotion or something’s idk.

Love Wins Out

The beginning dragged and really just started to get interesting after ep 3 but you have to watch all the episodes because they refer back to the scripts in later, more meaningful eps which you’d only understand better and be affected more bc you can identify it happened before. Love these 2 leads as this drama has introduced me to them so I’ll be looking for more dramas that feature them such as the one mentioned in the comments by another viewer. I see that the cafe owner is actually the love interest from Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Least we know he becomes a paralegal who falls in love with Attny Woo 😅. The deity is actually the abused teen version of the heroine from The Glory who I didn’t actually recognize until the end when she was in a school uniform. This drama made laugh out loud a few times but mostly waterfall tears 😭 due to the many touching, loving and sad moments. You really get invested in the characters in this drama, hoping for a happy ending, and even the love triangle that occurs with the bff bc that also is intriguing. Definitely worth the binge watch of 16 eps in 2 days. Will save the OST as well bc songs are beautiful. I’m glad I finished it and will probably go back to view snippets of this. Watched on Netflix btw.

original stroyline

this series is just wow. when you look into the eyes the actors it carries so much depth you can feel the loneliness and pain they hold. The chemistry between the leads are amazing. A very heartfelt story with a bit of an open ending. Loved the OST. the main lead gives me Damon from The Vampire diaries vibes.Myul Mang also has an iconic line like Damon and there are a few other similarities. I wouldn't rewatch this because the emotions this show holds are too raw to relive however it will always have a place in my heart. Amazing acting and a gripping storyline. Super cute as well

In the beginning, the story was really nice. (I'll come straight to the point now) The main problem came when they wanted to elongate the story without any meaningful material left with them. Close to the end, you will get the feeling that they are just stretching it. There were a whole lot of plot holes too. With the abrupt ending, the drama left me unsatisfied. Also, with the joyful and mysterious starting, it becomes a load of emotions towards the finishing. There's a lot of crying.

So if you're not the emotional type, I don't recommend this to you at all. But if you can handle moderately high emotions, yeah, you can give it a try.
