A Highly Enjoyable Fantasy.
I am surprised by how this drama turned out to be one of my guilty pleasure favorites. As usual, I had begun it as a 'palate cleanser' following my disastrous experience with 'Hello Monster'. However, I ended up binging the entire thing within two days. The major advantage that My Roommate is a Gumiho has is it's compact nature of storytelling and a pacing that is 'passable' enough to keep viewers who are inquisitive glued to their screens.
Starting right off the bat with the introduction of the history of a male Gumiho, Shin Woo Yeong, we are taken to present day Seoul with him. Having given up all hopes of becoming a human and now living in an apathetic state of mind following the demise of a person whom he hoped would help him become one, he plods his way around… until an accidental encounter with a college student, Lee Dam, ends up with him losing his beloved marble to her.
Dam, a history student, is beyond terrified of her newfound supernatural being. The gumiho offers her an agreement: cohabit with him until he figures out a way to get the marble out of her… Unbeknownst to her, he has plans of his own.
I loved the performance of the whole cast. Personally, I like Lee Hye Ri in comedic roles as it comes off as more natural. Lee Dam is a character I madly respect. Never seen Jang Ki Young before, but I will surely check out his prior works. He portrayed the 'alive and empathetic, but I'm dead inside' feature of the fox convincingly. Aside from the leads, supporting characters like Hye-sun and Jae-jin stole my attention several times.
I loved the process of how the gumiho and the human slowly began falling for each other. The drama focussed enough on the two of them within the first eight episodes, taking ample time for their relationship to slowly develop into something real. They had a valid reason to fall in love, as Lee Dam herself mentioned. Yes, there were times I wanted to beat up certain characters for their decisions, but I admire the effort that the cast and crew put in to invoke such emotions.
Also the distinction between the 'fox' and 'human' along with their power imbalance was interesting to watch.
Another admirable aspect of this drama is it's beauty. Every scene, particularly some of the ones shot at night were breathtaking, coupled with the scenery and lighting. I was not particularly impressed by the soundtrack, though I do like a couple of tracks.
One negative aspect of this drama was the pacing during the final episodes. The 'supposed' second lead took up a lot of screentime. I did not like this due to another factor that may be a bit of a spoiler. Considering that, a lot of his scenes could've been fast forwarded without much focus.
Another hiccup was the mythical background. I had seen 'My Girlfriend is a Gumiho' right before this, and despite having Disney heavy characters and a much lighter atmosphere, the background was solid enough to make the plot threads and outcomes plausible.
This did not seem to be the case for MRIAG. Although, I can see that some effort was put forth, the story was focussed more on character development and their decisions.
One character in particular supported the entire fictional aspect of the storyline and manipulated it to an unbelievable extent. No proper explanation was given for it's actions.
Despite these issues, this drama is certainly intensely enjoyable. I will certainly be going back to it sometime in the future.

Definitely worth watching
Sceptical at first, as mentioned by many, gumiho is no longer an excitement as it used to. Trust me, it's completely opposite of what you've been thinking, the plot, characters, were more wholesome and at ease than the once produced beforehand. The ending did not disappoint me like many other dramas did, so far the most satisfying ending would be this. You're no longer questioning or wondering in pain and hopes, this is a clean finish. Honestly, would be lovely if there were more dramas with the male protagonist, he's subtle yet keeps you entertained and wanting more, a hidden gem.Was this review helpful to you?
Nothing fancy about Fantasy but it has the right amount of plot filling in it
#MyRoommateisaGumiho (간 떨어지는 동거) Review:/- Actual Rating: 8/10
/- I had a peculiar impression of the conflicts that happened here. The way it felt was like every twist in the story was structured and placed for it to look like an engagement of sorts to destiny and how we control our lives around it. To be honest, I was more inclined to Hye Sun's story/atmosphere. I liked her parts more than the actual leads here.
/- But, overall, I enjoyed most of the fun parts since the acting really looked natural and funny at the same time. Enjoyed much of the episodes!

A very refreshing Rom-Com!
This rom-com has officially become my favorite drama of 2021. Without too much expectation, I spent two full days watching and completely falling in love with the ML and FL's personalities. Jang Ki Yong portrays flawlessly a fox that, besides a beautiful face, doesn't have a lot of emotion and has to learn how to feel in the presence of the FL. Hyeri portrays a very realistic, relatable college girl who is responsible for herself and always fights for her love, which is very refreshing to see. I am also so glad to see the nice, supportive relationship between the main leads and the second main leads. Overall, this drama makes me smile non stop and restores my faith in rom-coms. Definitely recommend My Roomate is A Gumiho! Was this review helpful to you?

Amazing drama
Overall: A very refreshing rom com!!! I started watching without too much expectation but this drama has definitely kept me at the edge of my seat all the time and makes me giggle like a fool in the middle of the nights. The main casts have amazing visuals. Their chemistry is also off the chart and makes you even blush while watching. I came for Hyeri and now have fallen in love with Jang Ki Yong. The story is filled with comedy and heart fluttering moments! If I make my fiance watch this drama with me, you gotta watch it for yourself and then have your loved ones join you for a rewatch. This is definitely my favorite drama of 2021.Was this review helpful to you?
Interesting Romcom with Great Acting <3
I didn't expect much from this but I ended up absolutely loving it ! If you're a romcom fan you'll love it for sure. Male MC is just the most charismatic male lead, his smile is ~~~ so cute, and Female MC is also super cute but we know that from Reply anyways. Supporting characters are also really interesting, I usually want to skip the supporting plots but I was very interested in their stories also. It definitely won't bore you, perfect for binge watching, it'll make you smile, cry and move your heart. If you're looking for a moving , sincere romcom definitely watch it , it even has magic. I have zero critisisms maybe but too much flashbacks but that's fine. I love it <3Was this review helpful to you?
Light
If you know the cast, you'll know they are good at acting. Though, I am not very pleased with the story plot. Personally, it's not my thing. Finished it because of good casting.Super light and funny for me. Good watch for people that are heavy work and watching to have a light and good laugh.
The graphics are also quite contrasting for me. I don't get the humor. Still, it might be a good watch for others. It's not just my cup of tea. Appreciate the whole production, though!
Hyeri is and Kang Han Na is so cute!!!!

I ♥️ Orishin!
I give this drama a 8/10, it started off strong with really great scenes and funny moments. I feel like midway through (around episode 11 or 12) it loss some of its steam, and I kind of lost interest. However, I did complete it.Pros:
- Main leads have good chemistry
- Female lead is charming and hilarious
- Gumiho/fantasy element is evident and used throughout entire series and isn't pushed the background.
- Side characters were well developed and helped the story to progress.
- Entire cast had good chemistry
- Hilarious, laugh out loud scenes
- Female lead while dependent on the male lead for a good portion of the series. She did show that she could be independent and that she knew what she wanted.
Cons:
- Story felt like it slowed momentum midway through
- Wished the male lead showed more emotion instead of holding himself back, I get that is not the actors fault just how the character was written.

lovely drama!!
the gumiho trop is nothing new but this love story was really sweet, well portrait and funny.the main male lead is gumiho who has reached his 999th years of age. he has left just a year to become a human or he'd disappear from the earth.
the male female lead is a young history Student who accidentally bumps into our gumiho and shallows the gumiho marble, which he needs to gain energy.
they both agree to live together in order to take the marble out of her body and save her from death.
this forced living situation leads to a romantic relationship.
that's the basic premise of the story, but the real force of this drama is in the chemistry between the actors. the drama is full of sweet moment that really warm the heart. despite the "age gap" they are able to adjust to one another and grow together.
they are both likable in different ways. the gumiho may seem cold hearted but is really affectionate in his own way. he is charming and naive and the same time. the main female character is strong, unapologetic and isn't afraid to be her true self.
the side characters are nice and not shallow as they usually are. especially the other couple of this drama give us funny and sweet moments.
overall this is a story about overcoming struggles and give all our selves for the one we love.
the drama is full of romantic but also funny moments.
highly recommended

Love, simple yet entertaining. I highly recommend this kdrama
This is a story with a very simple storyline, with a minimal plot twists and no annoying ex girlfriend or ex boyfriend or as they say in kdrama “second lead. This drama is soothing and warm hearted - a chicken soup for the soul, great for erasing away the stress and anxiety.I love the writer’s humor. It’s so subtle that one may not catch it right away. To me, this is some very excellent writing and a lot of thoughts have gone into it. Many lines spoken here can be used by friends and lovers to enhance their relationship. The “confession conversation” or what they called “boldness” is rather comprehensible.
Hyeri and JKY played their character brilliantly. And their chemistry is so freaking adorable! I must admit I’m not a fan of JKY acting before MRIAG but this drama suits him well. Hyeri and JKY in my eyes and opinion is a match made in heaven, their physical features complement each other.
The whole cast has an excellent chemistry, which can be seen on their promotions. Well done to the whole cast and crew for an excellent job.
Love life. Love everyday!

Eye Candy Fantasy RomCom to quench ur thirst.
Well, I finished it! Yipee!, cant say I do it now a days..very evident by my trail of drops and holds!Plot: nothing new..but the execution and the small elements tat made it; was amazing.. a new take on old story..better than tale of nine tail. I loved the twist in Soo hung love story..that was "ha ha he"
Acting: each actor played their role beautifully..even the supporting characters made it oh so very entertaining..be it her studious fnd and her rival...be it her close bud and his romances..the third wheel in love triangle...the various guest roles...everyone played their part nicely adding to the grand story.
FL char development was very evident in how she s first scared of ML and later gets bold, honest & loving.
MLs cute innocent love for her but at the same time he s a gumiho and acts like one. His comments on "is this why I learnt magic" at FL or to himself was very realistic..the plot was taken as realistic as possible within given reasonings...
Chemistry was wow : And the man! Jang Ki Yong could kiss..their first kiss was my my...H.O.T....and ocoz he s cute n a freaking eye candy as the title goes!!
Friendship: wow I really envy the fndship and their interactions....FL Dam and her buds fnds Jae Jin and Soo Kyung ..our fox Woo Yeo and his lady companion fox turned human HyeSun. The cute rival between Soo Hyung and Jung Suk....the siblings Dam and Dan's...Seo woo n Sun woo.
What I liked:
1. I always hated plot where a powerful being wants to became punny human...oh come on!!! I would rather u stay powerful and retain humanity. But this is one of the very few dramas where the reason for his wanting to become human was justified. And also, got us (furry pet parents) thinking! Very true...only humans have the free will to choose their own destiny..animals don't!!!
2. Dan n Dan's mom.. wow wat a classy lady..and their life motto...handle it yourself..ha ha..
3. HyeSun's innocence and taking things in literal sense!!!
Wat I hated: MLs monopoly of their relationship!! He never..I mean lik never says anything to Dam...I like that his fndship with Hyesun is old n strong.. am for it...but damn Dam is ur life partner..include her in ur closed grp sharing of 1 《Hye Sun》and decisions!!!
Music: can't say I even remember any...goes to say it not Catchy!
Overall: Give it a try, won't regret it..who knows u might end up liking it...I DID!!!!

Just romance and bonding has projected here.
Nothing new concept in this drama. Just that the girl is human and the boy is gumiho. This drama is totally carried out by bitter sweet moments, little bit comedy and some heartbreaking scenes. And ofcourse our female lead Lee Hye Ri (Lee Dam) has shown here top class acting. Because this character just perfectly blend with this plot. Our main lead Jang Ki Won (Shin Woo Yeo) who is a gumiho has been struggling to become human once again. This battle with himself will bring him close to Lee Dam and their romance journey will begin. The drama successfully potrayed the ending and bring all the couple together. If your sole purpose is just watching romance then this drama is just perfect for you. Beside romance this drama has nothing to offer, I mean you will not even find a proper character build up instead all the episodes are filled with romance between Dam and Woo Yeo.
The side characters are decent to watch and make the plot connected. Beside all this you will find some annoying moments with second male lead so just bear with that.
If you are looking for some simple romance and no other annoying back stories then you can watch it.
OST is good to listen.
- No rewatch for me.
