Pei Yan Yan and Gao Song fell in love in high school but broke up before they graduated college. As time passes, the two are brought back together through their careers 7 years later. Gao Song is now a university teacher and cybersecurity expert, while Yan Yan is a media reporter. Gao Song begins to realize he is still in love with Yan Yan and decides to break up with his girlfriend in an attempt to pursue Yan Yan again. Love and hate are two sides of the same coin. They both harbor resentment and love. Yan Yan turns a blind eye until Gao Song encounters a life-staking crisis. Only then does Yan Yan begin to admit her true emotions. Long, draggy drama
This drama was so long, repetitive, and horrible. I've been joking that must be the original reason it didn't release for so long. The only reason I stuck it out was for Lee Hyun Woo.The entire series, each episode constantly jumped from the past to the present. During the first 20ish episodes, the past/flashbacks seems to be in fairly sequential order. And the episodes were mostly focused on the past with smaller bits of the present. I didn't mind the back and forth too much, except once the FL cut her hair it got trickier knowing which timeline I was watching.
But somewhere around episode 22 or so, when the flashbacks had pretty much caught up with the present, they didn't stop. Sometimes we'd see new random scenes from school or college. Sometimes we'd see a scene again but with another small bit added. (And I'm talking a whole long 5-10 minute scene with an extra 30 seconds added.) But more often, we just got to relive it again for no reason that I could figure out. The closer I got to the end of the series, the more the scenes repeated until it got to the point of a 10 minute montage of Gao Song reliving his entire relationship in a flashback, flashing to Pei Yan Yan reliving a 10 minute montage of their entire relationship, with 30 seconds of actual story time in-between each flashback. It was bizarre. I watched them ride the ferris wheel 3-4 times. Gao Song fall 5 or 6 times. I've never seen a drama with so little story that the last 10 episodes consisted of 75% repeated content.
As for the story, most of the past storyline was decent. But not a single character knew how to take "No" for an answer until the last few episodes. (Mostly as in "this person is already in a relationship, leave them alone". Though they sure liked to be hypocrites and demand the same when it was their turn.) And there was an actual female-against-male rape that never got addressed for what it was! Possibly a bit of a second one though I was never quite clear what actually happened in the 2nd scenario.
The slight side-plot of the roommate musician and brother didn't go much of anywhere either. And most of the "romance" was childish and non-existent. We got one semi-decent adult kiss scene. The rest of the time they just pretended to fight or constantly played hard to get.
