Both dramas are about immortals falling in love, ML tries to protect FL and often gets himself injured in the process. ML breaks rules for FL.

Very similar characters and themes of fate and sacrifice, and finding your loved one through multiple lives /over time. I personally liked the visuals better in Song of the Moon. I suspect this would have been more popular and well known if it hadn't been overshadowed by Love between a Fairy and a Devil, which came out around the same time. FYI this has two possible endings and you can decide which you prefer (which may also be why it doesn't get the attention it deserves). An underrated drama, and a good watch.

Both dramas were romance fantasy. Both dramas falls in the xianxia and wuxia genre. The main leads have supernatural powers and ability.

Most similar and best one to watch if you like the content in song of moon. Like innocent girl with hidden power and strong immortal male lead. Must watch....

Song of the Moon is a nice drama, if you enjoyed this drama then you might also enjoy Ashes of Love.

In both female leads in 1st part of movie is cute and relies on the male lead.
Difference is in LBF&D the FL becomes the god and plays amnesia to the ML whereas in Song of the moon its the male lead.

Both dramas have a complicated love story. It seems to be impsible! Male Lead is obsessed with the woman he loves.

Similarities:
Both shows are romance fantasy/xianxia with aquatic demons (slightly different takes on it) and include the tension & cooperation between different ‘races/tribes’

both have slight love-triangles but the SMLs are mostly silently pining.
ML & SML have a grudging cooperation and evolving friendship, not just over shared love interest but also due to being leaders.

In both couples they are trying to protect their partners and instead are ready to sacrifice themselves
(this includes hiding things from their partners, I just mention it because I know some viewers are sensitive to this and don’t want to watch shows like that, but it’s not unusual for self-sacrificial xianxia plots ^^)

differences:
besides storyline differences, Mirror: a Tale of Twin Cities has slower storytelling and the couple is more on a ‘grown-up & introverted’ vibe while Song Of The Moon main couple is more ‘extroverted & youthful’

Each drama has their weak points, but I still overall enjoyed both and personally appreciate that the ‘love-triangles’ are more handled as ‘grudging & a bit awkward friendships’ between MLs & SMLs :)
