MapleStory X BTS

A nice series of YT Videos of BTS talking about Maplestory

Since this is a Youtube show, I will review it episodically rather than by story. I write this review with prior knowledge of both Maplestory and BTS.

In episode 1, BTS details their experiences in Maplestory growing up. Some of their stories have a hint of nostalgia and most members admit to not having played Maplestory in a long time. Jin is established as the pseudo host of the series and hosts a trivia game because he knows the most and solos H Lomien. Maplestory did not control the narrative on this episode and allowed BTS to be themselves. In hindsight, Maplestory players may see some nostalgic comebacks that were hinted in this episode in game now (eg. 2021 New Years event, Maple Globe).
In episode 2 and 3, BTS designs hats and outfits for their upcoming collaboration. These episodes may be more boring to the casual ARMY watcher but more interesting to the Maple community to showcase new NX outfits. It is unfortunate that some of their ideas were scrapped in the end, but Maplestory did a good job of incorporating BTS ideas and essence together in the final design. The main complaint for the last segment of the show is that only 3 BTS members were present for the final reveal so the audience did not get to see everyone's reactions.

The OST for this show was Maplestory BGMs, mainly Lachelein, the Dreaming City. Since Maplestory x BTS is presenting in a Korean talk show format, it is not music heavy.

Overall, Maplestory x BTS is a cute watch for ARMY and a good preview for Maplestory players. This series is simply Maplestory hosted by BTS, in a Korean talk show style format. Don't expect anything more or anything less.
