A Breath of Fresh Air—Healing Romance in a Picturesque Coastal Town
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is the kind of drama that soothes the soul. As someone who grew up in a rural area, I felt an instant connection with the breathtaking seaside scenery, the simple way of life, and the warmth of the villagers. Hong Doo Shik’s easygoing nature and down-to-earth personality perfectly embodied the charm of a small-town man, making his character incredibly relatable.Meanwhile, Yoon Hye Jin fits seamlessly into her role as the town’s dentist, bringing grace and determination to the story. The chemistry between the leads was effortless, making each interaction feel genuine and heartfelt. More than just a romance, this drama radiates comfort and healing in the best possible way.
For its stunning cinematography, heartwarming relationships, and deeply satisfying storytelling, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha earns a solid 9.5/10 from me!

I can't stop thinking about this story!
The chemistry between the two lead roles in this romantic comedy show is truly remarkable. Their on-screen connection feels so genuine and effortless, which adds an extra layer of charm and believability to their characters' relationship. The way they play off each other's energy is beautiful. The cinematography is absolutely breathtaking! It seamlessly blends with the narrative, enhancing the storytelling without overpowering it.
Each and every supporting role is fantastic! Whether it's through their playful banter, heartfelt moments, or even their comedic timing, their chemistry shines through in every scene. An absolute must watch!

I loved everything.
The main leads were AWESOME.
ESPECIALLY Kim Seon-how's acting. He done the job perfectly. I felt everything, his character hit me so deep, simply he became one of my all time favorite actors. I will watch everything he's in.
Believe me when I say you will not regret if you chose to watch this drama, it delivers everything from romance to comedy to some darker tones, I don't wanna spoil but believe me it is so satisfying. And the other characters are well developed, at the beginning I didn't like them but through the show I grew to love them. Everything was perfect.

My all time fav. Mature, light and deep! DON'T LET FEW BAD REVIEWS FOOL YOU
Actors - the ML looks like he has years of experience in theatre. He is wonderful at capturing emotions and making it look effortless. He is the star of this drama. The FL fits the cheeky role perfectly. It seems like it was written for her. All the supporting characters have a special place in my heart. ❣️My only problem with the ML's character is that he doesn't have any real character flaw. The FL is written better
Plot - The plot is simple. Its about finding a new life in the Countyside. However, it deals with some very very serious issues like lookism, classism, suicide, insecurity, loss of loved ones, old age problems etc. In a way that doesn't make the drama serious at all but definitely touches your heart deeply.
Chemistry- the male lead has a great Chemistry with no t just the FL but everyone in this drama 😁❣️ and you're gonna love that. The FL's character growth remains my favorite part of the drama.
This drama hits differently for people who aren't too young, have experienced a bit of life, have faced socio economic problems prevelant in the society...and have lived in both small towns and big cities.
Overall, its a 10/10 for me because its personally close to my heart

I CANT DESCRIBE THE PERFECTION
There are some times when I don't want to think alot while watching a drama, thinking about theories, watching dramatic conflict, or the puzzles we have to solve in a drama. This drama is an option for people who are in this phase. Located in a very beautiful place with ocean scenery, this drama really refresh my eyes and the warmth of Hong Dusik. This serial also has moral and life values through the sayings of the elderlies who also take part in the story. Romance and comedy blended so well in this. This would be a good option to watch and I won't be bored to rewatch this. Was this review helpful to you?

Oh Man How Deserving This Hype Is
Some people are soooo bitter about Hometown Cha Cha Cha mann. And then there's me who has only seen 1 episode so far but knows it will be a 9 or a 10, lol. Apparently there's no interesting plot or compelling characters, meh romance, no villain, tooo many episodes so too long (which I absolutely don't agree with).*me talking to my friends about it since they've en it as well and are wondering how I avoided spoilers* I have avoided spoilers for it really well. I only know there's something about a baby/kid and a wedding. Why does this sound like his "scandal" that was fake (JUSTICE FOR THIS PRECIOUS PUPPY).
I am just gonna binge watch some cha cha cha to cure my youth of May depression.
Hometown cha cha cha is sooooo cute. Instant serotonin.
I'm now at episode 5 and this is just pure happiness.
Apparently dramas set in small towns are my shit because I'm like loving the shit out of this and it's like the 3rd or 4th show I've seen that takes in a small village that I'm loving. It's sooo healing.
I dunno if it's just me BUT OMG WHY DOES SHE KEEP WEARING SUCH HORRIBLE UGLY OUTFITS IN CHA CHA CHA!!! WHO ARE THOSE STYLISTS!?!? AND HOW CAN I FIRE THEM!! HOW CAN HER OUTFITS EVEN GET WORSE?
OMG NOOOOOOOOO!! You don't scream or run at your oppa like that. Ju-ri why u screaming at your kpop idol like that. Whaeeeee..... I feel so bad for idols or any artist who receives treatment like that. Looool if I would meet famous people like that randomly and loooove them I probably would say or do nothing at all. He was sooo kind though.
I still hate our female lead's outfits. Don't even get me started on the make up.
Lowkey funny how two of my friends who don't watch dramas as vigorously as me, have seen it before me.
The dimple couple is toooo freaking cute.
That moment that I'm even fluent enough in Korean to know when Netflix mistranslates some stuff.
Poor chief hong crying ): If his backstory will be even more sadder then I'll be even more sadder than sad.
I'm also sad. NOBODY IS ALLOWING ME TO BINGE WATCH HOMETOWN CHA CHA CHA LIKE I WANT TO ):
Nooooooooo why does baby say everyone he loves dies and that it is because of him? Chief hong is tooo precious. My poor baby.
I'm dyinggg :') Chief hong is right though. If you don't read a lot of poetry or just reading in general, poems are the way to bore people into Falling asleep.
I DOOOOOOOOOOOON'T LIKE HOW THEY MADE THE SECOND MALE LEAD SOOO GOOD AS WELL.
Why are the two best friends such soulmates. Their love for each other is just uwu. Best sismance ever.
I'm dying :') our main girl forgetting to unplug her hair curler reminds me of my sister when she still lived at home. I literally have gotten THOUSAND OR MORE texts from her asking me to check if she unplugged her hair straightener :') This is too relatable. IT IS EVEN FUNNIER THAT IT WAS UNPLUGGED, which was always the case with my sister as well.
SHE CONFESSED FIRST O.O
I'M SLOWER THAN I WOULD LIKE TO BE! I'm only at episode 11 and I almost cried but gotta continue and finish it tomorrow because lucky is like WOMAN I WANT TO GO TO BED!
I didn't love episode 11 as much as the others since it kind of annoyed me how our girl always hit chief hong when she thought someone almost noticed them being all lovey dovey.
Uwu uwu Emma is almost crying. Why are they so fucking cute? Why is my dimple couple so fucking precious as well. My heart is melting.
They did not have to do us sooo dirty with the last ep. That was such a rollercoaster. It was soooo emotional, like so emotional. I wasn't expecting to be so emo.
Also looooool 2021 kdramas is apparently all about dem gay female side characters. It's like the third or fourth mainstream drama of this year that had a gay woman as a side character(s) and stated it (I definitely suspected she was not straight). It honestly was one of the most diverse years of kdramas imo.

My favourite drama (and most likely show in general ) of all time
Hometown Cha-cha-cha was truly amazing. It's the closest thing to perfection I have ever seen. The story was impeccably told and the writers and producers did an amazing job of bringing the story to life. Never have I gone through so many emotions in one show. You end up falling in love with pretty much every member of the main cast and the entire story itself. The show managed to avoid many of the sometimes frustrating tropes associated with many dramas. I just finished the series and I would watch it multiple times over in a heartbeat. Truly a must-watch for everyone and my favourite drama (and honestly, show) of all time. Was this review helpful to you?

Come for the laughs and stay for the chemistry.
Both the actor and actress were perfectlycasted for this show. The chemistry between Seon Ho and Shin Min Ah is great. The back n forth between the two makes for some good dialogue. Defintely something you want to
watch if you want to smile. If you are looking for something light hearted with some good laughs. I highly recommend that you watch this show. Especially if you are looking for that feel good romantic comedy of the summer. I can't begin to say enough good things about this show. I know it is still early on but this show is everyrhing it was promoted to be.

Many holes in the plot
I don't get what the hype is with this drama. The ratings are so high that I thought I would enjoy it, but in reality, I don't understand it. It seems they are putting every stereotype of Korean romance dramas: parent health issues or death, main characters meeting when they were young, and I bet they have a connection to be revealed at the end. The male lead is cold to the female lead, doesn't care, and even bullies her. They go back and forth until they eventually become a couple. There's also an unrealistic supportive friend whose job is just to be there. If I can predict something more, it will be a gentle male character who cares for her, but like all Korean dramas, she is fixated on the male lead.In episode 1, the main female lead quits her job because she is an honest, non-greedy person who cares a lot for others, to the point that she gets blocked from all jobs in the market. She moves to a village to open a clinic, becoming an arrogant person who thinks low of all people. In real life, any person would avoid her completely after she publicly shamed a retired singer without an on-the-spot apology, which confirms her bad character. Yet, the male lead helps her all the way to be forgiven by all the others.
The singer got depressed because of her harsh words, and she never bothered to apologize in the following days. When they met again after some time, he suddenly became the happiest person just because she told him she listened to his album and liked one song? He even quit smoking on the spot when she noticed the cigarette?!
The coincidences that happen one after another are so unrealistic that it gets boring. I feel the writer put them all just to justify her staying and starting a life there.
When the female lead came to visit the village, she was spotted by everyone as an outsider, interacted with them, and the male lead met her "by coincidence" many times. Yet, when her friend joined to live and work with her, I don't see her side story or any interaction or comments from people. No one paid attention to her. I realized this when it was cleaning day: all the villagers were up early to clean, and they were disappointed with the female lead because she was not there and dragged her to assist in cleaning. Her friend just got a free pass because no one cares or it doesn't add to the building love story between the main leads?!
In reality, if a man existed in the same situation and personality as the male lead, he would never be attracted to the female lead because several situations since she came to the village showed her disrespect to the dearest people in his life whom he loves and protects.
The only reason I will continue watching (though I'm like 90% quitting it) is because I am learning Korean and I need to improve my listening by watching Korean dramas.

Literally healed me
I watched this back when it was airing in 2021, gave it a 10/10, rewatched it in 2023 and again this year in 2025. A 10/10 EVERYTIME.I HAVE NEVER FELT SO WARM AND FULFILLED WATCHING A DRAMA. Like, HomeCha wasn’t just a show, it was an experience. It was like taking a deep breath of fresh air, like a warm hug, like drinking hot chocolate on a rainy day. It was comfort in drama form.
Romance? 12/10. Chemistry? OFF THE CHARTS.
Yoon Hye-jin and Hong Du-sik??? PERFECTION. Their relationship felt so natural, so real, so deeply emotional that I could feel their love growing with every interaction. Their bickering? Adorable. Their tender moments? Butterflies. Their angst? PAIN. This is what true romance pacing looks like—no unnecessary dragging, no unrealistic jumps, just two people gradually falling in love in the most beautiful way. The chemistry was so electric it didn’t even feel scripted. Just pure, unfiltered longing and love.
That being said, I have some thoughts on Hye-jin. People say she’s rude, but honestly, I never saw her that way. What did bother me, though, was her cringy baby talk when she got into a relationship. I honestly get it because her whole life she has had to be an adult because of her family, and now she finally gets to experience her inner child, still it annoyed me a little😭. Also, around ep 13, she seemed lowkey embarrassed about Du-shik’s lack of a set job, and I was just like… girl, this is Chief Hong we’re talking about. The man can do literally everything. Also, why did Du-shik have to apologize just because Hye-jin was telling Du-shik to care of the guy who had a crush on her? It made no sense. But her character development was EVERYTHING.
But does Hye-jin ruin the drama for me? Absolutely not. Nothing could ruin this drama for me. I squealed like a kid every time she and Du-shik had a moment. Their dynamic was everything, and Du-shik as a character?? A 20/10. Kim Seon-ho ate this role UP. His smile, his little eyebrow raises, his dimples—I need a Du-shik in my life, it’s not even funny anymore. If my man doesn’t steal drumsticks for me, I don’t even want him. Like ask me to write my college essay on Cheif Hong, AND YOU WILL FIND IT DONE IN AN HOUR.
But This Drama Wasn’t Just Romance…
The side characters??? ICONIC (mostly). Gongjin wasn’t just a setting, it was a whole community that felt like home. The character development, especially with Hye-jin finally understanding why Du-shik loved Gongjin so much, was so beautifully done. That being said…
Nam-sook? Annoying.
Oh Yoon? Sir, I get that you’re a musician, but enough. Stop pushing your music on everyone.
Geum-cheol??? Bro. Your wife is pregnant. Stop being so insensitive. Like, Yung-yeong is so patient, and he’s just like, “I said sorry”—LIKE WHAT?
But on the flip side—Ji-won and Seung-hyun??? CUTEST. And that scene of I-jun crying because his parents got back together??? My heart.
Listen. Episode 14 destroyed me. Du-shik’s past… I was NOT prepared. The way this drama slowly unraveled his trauma, his guilt, his deep-rooted pain—it was SO well done. And Kim Seon-ho’s acting??? CRIMINALLY GOOD. The breakdown scene?? I sobbed.
The fact that Hye-jin didn’t “fix” him, but loved him through it?? UGH. The way she showed patience and understanding instead of trying to be his savior??? Perfectly written.
Final Thoughts: A MASTERPIECE. This wasn’t just a romcom. This was a healing drama. It made me laugh, cry, scream, melt, and reflect on life all at once. The romance was top-tier, the characters felt real, and the emotional depth was unexpected but so satisfying.
Would I rewatch it? Yes.
Would I sell my soul to experience it for the first time again? Absolutely.
Do I now expect every K-drama romance to feel this real and perfect? Unfortunately, yes.
