It is a romance show...
StoryThe editing for this show was frankly all over the place and so was this story. I only watched for the romance between Xu Shijin and Shen Yu (I do admit that flat out) and did not care for Liu Ling and Shen Yan's story. So I will admit that skipped most of their scenes together. Actually, I skipped a lot of Liu Ling's scenes of her being sad over him or thinking of him. I think there was a lack of actual development with the characters because they pushed romance at us (3 couples) and political turmoil, palace drama, etc. And nothing was really well developed for me. Even the relationship between Xu Shijin and Shen Yu was not developed., and it felt like immense tension. I do love mutual pining, but I really wanted to see her side of things. We knew he was in love since he wears his heart on his sleeve. It was just disappointing that the show did too much in the time they had.
I think having the third couple get together in the last episode is frankly lazy writing, and it made me feel nothing. AS WELL, I DISLIKE HIGHLY how the storyline of Xu Shijin and Shen Yu ends with the true love knot being broken. It literally adds NOTHING to the story and is like a little "HAHA YOU THUNK". I was rooting for them and it was quite rude.
I WISH we got more political drama and palace drama in the show. Touba Lie and his kingdom of Yigu were really interesting and I kind of wanted more out of it. I think it was a missed opportunity. The ending felt so rushed and I literally felt zero emotions over the death of people. Overall, not a horrible show. But the story could have been a lot better.
I will say my favorite scenes was when we were actually able to see ZYC and MR fighting others, or one another. I know MR is good with stunt work and fight scenes (he has done a decent amount for movies and other shows), but I am glad that ZYC was good as well.
Acting/Cast
I knew when the cast was announced that they were going to do great. This is my first drama though with ZYC and he did really well since I know this cold demeanor is not at all like him. I watched a live stream when the show was initially airing and he has such an annoying personality (in a big brother way) that this character was def different than his personality.
Crystal Yuan must have done a good job for me to dislike the character of Liu Ling so much. She was not a bad actor at all, and she played the complicated character of Liu Ling quite well. All of her emotions were different and she saw her slowly maturing and growing. In the end, she did actually act like a wife and a mature young woman, rather than the very spoiled woman at the start of the show. So I commend her on that.
NOW I watched this drama for Mi Re. The only reason I sat through this show, and it was worth it. He is someone who never tends to play characters similar to his personality (he is extremely introverted, and to himself) so I loved seeing him being mischievous as Shen Yu. Also FINALLY he got a girl. He is notorious for being 2ML and not getting the girl, or the one time he was ML and she died. He also usually dies a lot so seeing him have a happy ending was so rewarding. I remember before airing saying MR would gain a lot of fans from this role, and be commended. So I am disappointed that most people do not mention him too often in this show since he did a great job. Between being stoic when needed, but also the fun loving flirting side of him. But still making it the same character overall.
I want to say good job on ZYC and MR on acting like brothers. Sometimes siblings in shows don't always come across awesome, but they had the bickering down solid. Even though they both had wildly different personalities, they still cared for one another, and also appreciated one another.
Music
You have Liu Yuning singing the theme song so I am going to be in love with the OST. And we had Zhou Shen singing the ending ost. They put a lot of money into this drama and the OST. Even the promotion for this show was insane. The billboards in China for the finale. All of the photoshoots they did. Having them CONSTANTLY together for little skits, douyin trends, reaction videos, live streams.
Rewatch Value
I frankly wont, but I also have very little shows I am willing to rewatch. This will not be one of them.
I do want to shout out the wig and costume department. The wigs were laid correctly and they looked natural. The ponytail that ZYC had and that MR wore for a hot second was so nice. I thnk I screamed when MR appeared in it. The costumes were also splendid and really showed the personality of the wearer. I think Shen Yu had the most varied costumes, since his professional self was very different then his brooding self. While Shen Yan kind of always felt stuffy even though his hair was "out" which is very much his personality. He was not free while Shen Yu is (the large sleeves, the many layers with different textures, his hair being more free flowing). The girls costumes were also great and it highlighted the position they held and them maturing.

Simple and uncomplicated
It's not a spectacular script, but due to the lack of complexity, it doesn't have many mistakes. The characters are likable, there are no fancy plots and no hateful villains. I think simplicity is the main hallmark of this drama. The cast is good and the performances are quite convincing.
The costume is well made. The soundtrack is pleasant.
The direction led the drama with a satisfactory pace, produced good scenes, especially the action scenes, but the last fight was a little rushed. The ending is simple, but contemplates the continuation of the drama.

It felt like the budget for this drama was minuscule but it didn't really matter because the main couple carried the story with pride. Boy, did they carry it! After Her Royal Highness, this was the most sensual Cdrama I've seen till this day. Wow, just wow.It was also the first drama that I've seen with Zheng Yecheng. And I am smitten, my friends! Another Cactor to follow, nice! Pretty, great at acting - and incredibly sensual. Gosh, his kisses were... err, well-acted *fans herself*
I really loved the push and pull between the main couple, their courting was a true game of equals. She was determined to get him and he was determined to resist - until he wasn't. And then it turned really interesting, you never knew who had the upper hand. Perfect.
Also, I loved the friendship between the princess and the lady-in-waiting, and the relationship between the Shen brothers. Both the girls and the brothers were willing to lay down their lives for each other. But whereas the friendship between the girls was very open and there for everyone to see, the brothers mostly acted like they didn't care but when push came to shove they both knew that the other would be there, be it for a jail break or spying on a rebellion.
Also #2, I really loved the main theme song. It was so pretty...
Unfortunately, the last few eps felt rather rushed, there were fast-forward time jumps, fade-out scenes, obvious shortcuts. But, yeah, budget, I guess. Oh well...

the drama might be good audio-visually, in my opinion the acting is good, I'm just bothered by Liu Ling's character
and also I just watched episodes 1 to 7, haven't found an interesting storyline that makes me curious to continue watching the next episode.
moreover, the main female character is too contrived to look like an itchy woman, too vulgar, chasing the male lead in a way that constantly sticks to her body, as if not maintaining dignity, indeed the title is about a presumptuous woman but there are many types of female impudence that can be shown in dramas, no need to be too flirtatious to chase men.

Shocking chemistry!!!!
A big bow to the lead actors , for the one of the best couples of the year so far !!!!
I was so shocked with their chemistry! Never expected it. This couple has definitely the best chemistry of all pairs in costume dramas in 2022!!!!
I've watched many costume dramas this year, but no one equals to them when it comes to chemistry.
The way they look at each other makes my heart beat faster... I am just melting at the sight of them , as if they really love each other.
Most actors as I watch, I am aware that I am watching a drama, but this couple was so real that I really believed that they love each other.
Crystal is a very professional actress. ML really feels comfortable around her, she gives him a lot of confidence with her unreserved way of acting.

My B****y Stalker
If you feel that gawking at Zheng Ye Cheng is worth putting yourself through the hell of watching the most unattractive, uninteresting, idiotic, and bratty FL ever created throw herself at him, then go ahead. That's really all there is to be said here. Oh, cinematography was nice, in my opinion. Bright gem-tone colours, beautiful scenery in some shots. However, story is king, and this king was missing. Instead, there was a leach of a princess who just wouldn't leave the drama! 😆
Obviously the screenwriters either don't understand what the word "sassy" means, or the Mandarin word for "sassy" is "b****y". Either way, I can't think of why anyone would want to watch a drama about a b****y stalker princess. Oh! Unless you want to watch only to drool over Zheng Ye Cheng, that is. 😆
The Korean drama, "My Sassy Girl" is almost the same, but it's much better than this one. I actually thought this was a Chinese remake at first.

Watch if you are Zheng Ye Cheng Fan
Very standard cliche story line with annoying FL character portrayed by the actress Yuan Bing Yan whom I can't understand why she gets so many roles. I pretty much dropped all the drama she's been in. Even wth Zheng Ye Cheng is in it, it was hard to watch the interaction.ML - ZYC though not an amazing actor (still very good), always stands out in costume dramas for his fight scenes. You can't fake all the years of training especially when there's a solo scene.
Main reasons to suffer through the cliches:
-ZYC - fight scenes
-Mask dude's fight scenes
-Cute supporting characters (Maid to FL and the little soldier next to her all the time)
-The little pig -- yes EVEN The little pig is a better watch than the ML/FL cringe interactions
I really REALLY hope ZYC can get an epic script one day that's on the same level as:
Joy of Life, Ashes of Love, Bloody Romance, Love like Galaxy etc ...

What An Annoying Female Lead
I give up on this drama just because personally, I really hate the female lead character.Just my opinion is that her character is more likely a female villain who loves to throw herself in front of the male lead..., she doesn't care how many times he has rejected her coz she somehow has no shame.
She's in love with Shen Yan (the male lead) at the first sight due to nothing but his handsomeness and suddenly develops an obsession with him. Not because of his kindness or his else, coz she's not even known him. She even has her bodyguard investigate him due to her cluelessness about him.
She then hides his token and obsessively stalks him around... ignoring her princess status. Scheming everything she can to be able to be with him. Again, just my opinion, how low people could fall so deep in love just because of their physical appearance. Nothing more, only THE FACE.
In ep 3, there's a scene where she's throwing money in a restaurant and paying 3 silver coins for every 1 type of food she purchased..., which is what I know after watching countless dramas, silver coins consider as a big sum of money in that era. And she purchased a long table full of food... I can't imagine how much money she has been throwing! She's a princess, she's not even working, so..., she wasted people's money for her personal pleasure.... why on earth people with that kind of behavior is a protagonist??
I can't even finish ep 3 and give up at minute 18:18... she makes my day turn worst.
I just hate the kind of girl who throws her pride over a man, too much. For those who do not, might find this one interesting. If the drama turns good after ep 3, idk coz I don't watch it, but I do hope it will.
I love Zheng Ye Cheng, but, not this one, the female lead is my worst nightmare in a drama.

ENTERTAINING AND FRESH DRAMA // DRAMA ENTRETENIDO Y FRESCO
This drama is entertaining, it has some funny scenes, others are sad, but in general terms, it is soft to watch, compared to other dramas of that style that are monotonous, tangled, and with many crying scenes that become ridiculous, considering that do not need to shed so many tears to show a feeling. In my personal concept, life is hard, and it takes strength to move forward. In reality, the man of that time, cried very little because he had to demonstrate his dominant strength, above his inner feelings.
Now let's talk about the elements that make up the drama:
1. The action: It's a shame that scenes that were part of the plot sequence were removed. Consequently, a conflict was generated in the follow-up of the same. But, in favor of the work that the actors did, the interaction of the whole team was performed very well.
2. Spatially: Although it is a low-cost drama, it managed to show the style of the time in which it takes place. The costumes are eye-catching, and the colors are harmonious, it's nothing dark and boring, like other high-cost dramas.
3. Temporality: Precisely because of the cut of the scenes in the drama, the sequence was affected and therefore, affected the perception of the public. However, this is not the fault of the actors, nor of the production team. It is the restrictions given in the reviews to approve it that affected the broadcast of the drama. However, it is a creative drama with the resources that were provided to them.
4. The characters: Regardless of the preferences that exist regarding the actors, each one performed very well in the role that corresponded.
This must be very clear because I have seen comments from haters in particular that go against the female protagonist, but, you can see that they do it with malice. That is not partial, nor does it serve in a real analysis of the drama.
Personal concepts must go above the analyses that affect the drama.
Also, I have observed that Chinese dramas must improve the points of performance because many artists from that country, have little experience or overact too much and that is also annoying to watch. I don't say it for this particular drama, I say it for all the dramas in that country.
If we evaluate the female and male protagonists, it shows that the two have a good relationship and therefore, that served for the good performance of the libretto.
The success or failure of a work depends on the good relationship in the work team. When I refer to the "team", it's not just the actors, it's also the directors, screenwriters, actors, stylists, etc. In itself, all those who makes up the work team.
If someone fails, the work will also fail, because that is perceived by the public.
Regarding the director, he is the one who orchestrates everything. He is the one who organizes the actors and is responsible for the team, as it happens in a normal job, where there is a boss.
I mention the above, regarding the role of the director, precisely because I have seen that in the previous work of the female protagonist, the director did not have PROFESSIONAL ethics and revealed to the media, details that usually, an experienced director, should not reveal because it goes against his own performance as leader of the group.
It simply did not assume its responsibility, in the face of the weaknesses of its actors. Without taking into account that all actors have weaknesses and strengths. He had to exploit her strengths!
In my opinion, both Yuan Bingyan and Zheng Ye Cheng performed very well and were harmonious with the script and their set mates. This is something that should be highlighted.
5. The conflict: This drama presents a psychological background of the female character, due to the events that occurred in her childhood, in contrast to the cold temperament of the male character, who when he falls in love with her, softens a little and begins to understand the reason for her behavior, providing support.
However, because at that time so many interests were involved, the two characters are involved in a series of disagreements that lead to separation and pain. But, when everything is clarified, love prevails between the two.
This is beautiful to look at and very relaxed.
It should be noted that dramas of this style, speak of a historical context (customs, and culture). From what I've seen in some comments, they find the female character chasing a man uncomfortable. But in reality, they are not understanding in the first place, that the character design in the work, is like that.
Second, it is not the actress' fault, that the character is chasing a man. Only she is interpreting. It is not reality.
In conclusion, all the drama as a whole is relaxed to watch.
I invite fans who do not like this drama to comment responsibly without damaging the good image of the actors. Considering that everyone is improving and it is not easy to be in the medium of entertainment, because they will always be in the eye of the hurricane.
Without being aware that actors are also human beings with qualities and defects, just as all of us also have these characteristics, and it is not fair.
For them, they are hours of arduous work, uncomfortable, and in many cases overcoming the internal pain of a real person. All for an irresponsible person to try to damage his good image.
People who only live to harm and make destructive criticisms have a miserable and chaotic life. That shows ignorance.

My Sassy Princess
