Wei Shao wants to know how General Liang could give his gift to the maid. The general is very sweet in how he tries to explain things. WeiShao is starting to figure out how he falls short in the feelings dept for his wife. They prepare to leave and the engineer detours them to Panyi. It is clear that this plan was devised by Lady Wei who wants more private time with husband. They find the main road blocked and Wei Shao is called away to help fix it. The maid yells at the general for taking the Lord away and tells him to fix it. So the generals plot to have it look like Lady Wei is lost so that Wei Shao can rescue her. It flops and she has really disappeared. This has the Wei men in a panic and when they find her he scoops her on his horse and prepares to fight. It turns out they have found a group of refugees who have survived a 1000 mile trek after being refused by two other realms. Lady Wei had to hang her head in shame when her own family was one who rejected them a home. Lord Wei makes a treaty with them to settle in his land 20 miles away that has good land to build houses and farms. As long as they obey the laws of Wei clan they now have a home. This pleases Lady Wei very much. Later that night Lord Wei will not let her leave his side. She is starting to get antsy and doesn’t know what his problem is. He finally tells her that her maids weren’t the most worried for her that day. She finally sees with her own eyes how much he cares for her. So even tho a very poor gift chooser, he has shown a good heart with the refugees and that her safety and care are important to him. This gift from him, was a very good one🥰This tells her far more about who he is rather than what he can buy. Her cousin had a similar scare but hers was more serious. BiZhi tried to fulfill her wishes over sour plums and got himself injured by bully general. The border has more tension now and she wants to run away again. He dissuades her and reminds her that they will always be safest in their own land. He also reminds her that he is working hard to prove his worth to her father. It is an honorable way to react. He is more realistic about dangers and is trying to get her to stay put and deal with them bravely. At the Qiao home things are conflicted because the governor now wants to pave his political way by marrying off the available women to other realms. Qiao Man’s brother is disgusted with them. He is on point that the men will be seen as weak if that is their currency to stay in power. I’m kinda tired of their ambassador that is lazy and self serving. He is not a bad man, he just isn’t really a good one either. He just wants to stay near power for the comforts without any of the responsibilities. The young man leaving will be the best thing for him. Qiao Man is so much better off being away from this group. They are smart engineers but they are cowardly and lacking strength of character. This is what got them in trouble 14 years ago. It is a hard lesson for Lady Wei to see how her family looks from other people’s eyes but is a good lesson. She may have more in common with Yan than she expected.
