To be honest, if I had not read the manga, it would be a 10. I adore the manga, and I think their plotlines might be diverging (I am not sure though). I think I would have preferred a more open ending. It is just that if the creators chose to diverge in the plotline, I would have liked if there was more of a buildup to the relationship. But that would have not worked, because it is very short, and I do understand there are budget constraints. Personally, I was waiting for the guy who was the main character's little brother's classmate to show up. He is another potential love interest for the main character in the manga, but he didn't show up. Still, I am very pleased with what they have done, and I really, really love it. A Hilarious BL Parody & Appreciation Show
A Man Who Defies the World of BL airs on Viki as a four episode series. This comedic fantasy tells the story of "Mob," an average college student who realizes that he lives inside of a Boy Love world. Trying to avoid becoming the protagonist of his own BL story line, Mob researches all the tropes of Boy Love manga so he can avoid them in real life. He watches his classmates, friends, and even his younger brother fall into a boys' love plot. The more he fights the reality of his world, the more inevitable it becomes that he cannot avoid it despite wanting a girlfriend.Mob is hilariously played by Atsushiro Inukaj. His hysterical inner monologue and over-the-top facial expressions truly sell the ridiculous notion that Mob can avoid the pitfalls of living in a BL world. The show is funny even if you're not familiar with shoujo/BL romance anime or manga tropes. If you are familiar with them, the show is even funnier as the viewer knows Mob will not escape this story line without falling in love.
Although the brevity of the series makes it easier to complete in a day, I wish the ending was bit a longer and more fleshed out.
According to Viki, this series/movie was adapted from the manga of the same name.

Hilarant

I watched this series back in 2021, and I love this series. It brings classic comedy and cliches that happens on a BL mangas and animes. It's funny, light, and also enjoyable. Maybe this series could be cringey for some people, but for someone who's been following animes and japanese dramas for a long time, this cliches are relatable and accurate. The manga is waaaay more funnier, though. I love how Atsuhiro portrayed the main character, and how he reacts to every cliches that happens around him was very funny. I think this series could be more enjoyable by someone who have been reading mangas or watching japanese BLs. Was this review helpful to you?
Funny and cute
This is a hilarious BL and well worth watching. I like the way they make the story out-of-the-box and different from other BL series. The casts are cute and funny. There are many short love stories of several BL couples embedded in this movie. What I like most about this BL is the presentation of the movie which is really interesting and funny at the same time so I was hooked up till the end. I agree it's very difficult to avoid falling into BL word as BL is becoming popular day by day. A perfect movie for those who like light happy and funny BL.Was this review helpful to you?

"Meet Cute" overload
This was a very funny and cute series. It basically takes the piss out of the world of BL and how the smallest "Meet Cute" could lead to a relationship. It has all the tropes everywhere you look but done in a way where the main character is practically pointing them out for the audience. It's almost as if they made this series as an introduction to the world of BL however I find the humor is in the fact that BL lovers have seen all of this done multiple times and we know the truth behind the joke that it is overused. I feel like anyone can enjoy this, whether they are new to the BL scene or a seasoned watcher.
I read some reviews where people thought the ML's relationship kinda happened out of nowhere and was too short but I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. The show is completely centered around that idea of the first meeting and so I think it ended perfectly where he finally succumbed to letting that first meeting evolve into asking the guy out on a date. It still came around full circle. I know there is a second season (which I haven't seen yet as I write this) but I feel like this ended on a good note and I don't feel like it needed more. I'll still watch the second season just because I liked this one so much.
Last thought... I could watch the opening song countless times and not get tired of it.

Super Funny
Hilarious concept. Very entertaining and I really enjoyed the performance of the lead actor. I really liked all the characters and thought the humor was really well done. The ending was a little rushed and I wish it had been done better or at least foreshadowed but I can forgive it because of the short run time. Also the opening song is a banger and I would listen to it on repeat for days if I could find it on youtube. Overall I would definitely recommend this to someone. It's a quick watch and it's absolutely worth your time. Was this review helpful to you?
80% Comedy + a 20% Romance = 100% Fun
The idea was great ! The plot and cast were all so amazing.the one thing that made me give 10 to casting was Mob's facial expression. He made the whole series 10 x funnier and really liked how he would predict the scenarios.
It was too little to no intimate scenes in this series, but believe me, YOU WON'T REGRET WATCHING IT, specially if you've watched a handful amount of BL series.
despite being a 4-episode series, I felt it's longer. I really like how japanese series can develop the story and characters in such a short amount of time.
overall, make sure to watch it.
I liked it so much

The relationships of the characters seemed to start really quick though especially with the main character. It went so quickly from Mob denying his attraction to liking Kikuri so quick. But I understand that it's all because it's a short parody special. It did make me think of how many people could be struggling with their internalized homophobia lol.
Overall a good special, I really have no regrets. It's a quick watch that won't leave you disappointed.

Very funny!
I spent the entirety of this show wondering if it was funny, stupid, or genius, and I have decided that it's all three. They really took this idea and ran with it and I love that! It was purposefully cringey, which could be almost painful at times - still, I rarely laugh out loud at shows, so I have to give credit where it's due and admit that I was laughing through a good 60% of every episode. The plot left me wanting a bit more. With such a short series, I think they sacrificed depth for comedy - and I don't really mind, but I hope we get more character development and maybe even more world building in the next season!!

Funny and Light
I really found this to be a light hearted mini drama.Hands down the most fun I've had watching a comedy series in a long time. I was literally rolling on the floor. It's short, but totally worth the time. The casting was also very good (not great, but decent), and the main character played his role flawlessly.
This series uses the power of parody and it comes out perfect, it is very funny, the best thing is everything that happens in the background of the stage, it genuinely feels like being in a world dominated by the BL, another feature in its favor is the duration, the fact that it is so short allows you to better enter the game and participate in the absurdity. This drama is god damn funny, the manga made me laugh but the over the top acting from the main character mob is funny. He makes these faces like he's a villain trying to be straight.
Overall :If BL drama fans want to take a break from emo/sad BL and want to laugh from the BL tropes they often see in these dramas. There's eye candy of so many guys loving other guys. It's god damn funny to boot with a ending that most fans will love. It really needs a follow up/sequel because a cliffhanger ending is bad.

The Man Who Has Saved the World of BL
A Man Who Defies the World of BL "is a parody of BL's dramas, poking fun at cliches and the entire world of BL, with its excluding non-BL romances reality and with crazy fujoshis and fudanshi freaks. There were moments that I laughed like a madman, mainly due to the actor who plays with his eyes, facial expressions and body in a minimalist way, and the way he does it just kills, crushes and cuts you into chaff. : D The guy hardly says anything, as the film is a narrative, so we hear his thoughts and his mimic is their perfect illustration. Plus, for people who are familiar with japanese language, the film is extremely fun: the voice modulation and some phrases just nail it all ..
So here is a story about a student who has realized that the world around him has turned completely gay and he is terribly afraid that eventually this BL virus will infect him irreversibly. So he decides to oppose!
Soon after, however, he receives a deep blow to the very heart, he learns that even his closest people are infected, but despite the shock, he fights to the last drop of blood. After successive breakdowns, he falls into an overwhelming resignation, which can be seen in his increasingly tired face and more and more stooped figure. After all, the only weapon he has left is his bitter sarcasm ...
The film makes fun of all known BL clichés: scenes at school, in the school corridors, on a bridge, on a roof, seme's hand on the uke's head, intertwined fingers, naked torsos, leaning heads in the cinema, Valentine's chocolates, etc. etc, well, all the BL elements, that we know so very well. : D
I watched all eps one after the other and I was excited about every sentence and dialogue. The scene at the soda machine in the second episode threw me off my chair, the scene when Mobu comes home drunk and is afraid to fall over on the street, lest some flower boy accidentally save him, just smashes it all ..
I think we have a breakthrough and a fresh breeze here. Maybe at last BL cinema will move towards some originality, in spite of making the same stories all over again changing the actors only...
Oh wait, the truth is that I actually miss the japanese odlschools and the japanese sensitivity, and to be frank this film does not mock them at all, but actually hugs them tenderly. So do I!
